Bloke builds a jigsaw puzzle solving machine, but not just for regular jigsaws, it’s for ones that are all white and only the shape varies slightly. It takes humans years to complete one.
Quite a remarkable effort in creating the machine to do it.

Nice to do it by machine.
I’m back doing jigsaw puzzles again. Two comments.
- Back five or so years ago I completed an all-white Jigsaw puzzle with 1000 pieces. This was on an Android app, and the shapes of the connectors were sufficiently different that they could be compared by eye.
- I have recently come to the conclusion that an all-white jigsaw puzzle is not the most difficult. Being all white, it is easy to distinguish the shape of the pieces against a coloured background. A suitable fine-grained random camouflage pattern on the pieces makes determining the shape more difficult.
Here’s my calculation. From a 9 piece jigsaw to a 1000 piece jigsaw.
