First Test in Brisbane starts this morning.
Oz won the toss and are going to bowl. That’s a bit surprising.

I think the Aussie batters are going to struggle against the Saffer quicks.
About 20 minutes away from a start.
Might be just enough time to watch a replay of the Thunder innings from last night. What a debacle!
pitch is very green…

Yeah the hairy back boer trekker Rassie van der Dussen can fuck off because of his stupid name if nothing else.

Still they are way past the benchmark 15.
Looking like a good toss to win and bowl first.
They’ve called drinks, a bit early but OK.

They’ve gone for drinks, you’re shouting at nobody.
Zondo got a good on and on the Chemistwarehouse Replay he was definitely out.
The MacDonalds Score Card showed him out for a duck off two balls

Before the game started my mate had a bet that Rabada would take two or more wickets in Australia’s first innings.
He got good odds of $1.40.
i reckon he’ll get the chocolates.
FUCK
Smith bowled 36
Great partnership with Head
Fascinating day

And he does indeed get the chocolates.
Bummer. Nightwatchman goes in the last over before stumps. 5/145 is OK on this pitch, but not as great aS 3/145 which it was looking like for a while.
Pakistan all out for 304 on day one of their test series against England.

Yeah. Been a non-stop feast of cricket all day.
I managed to watch the Scorchers not choke earlier today too. So it is all good.

I actually listened to the radio commentary a few times today as I was running errands. The ABC has brought in Kim Hughes as some new blood.
His commentary is as bad as his captaincy.
Pakistan are opening the bowling with a spinner.

And he gets a wicket with the fourth ball.

He is not new blood. He had been doing local commentary for years on ABC Perth.
All the good commentators are already taken by Ch 7 and Foxtel. They have teams at the test match and at the T20 games around the country. So radio gets whoever is left.
Pakistan waste a review on the last ball just to tick over the clock.
Should have pushed for the extra over IMHO.

Bother.

Head gone for 92. Shame, I was hoping he’d make a hundred.

All out for 218. Lead of only 66 runs on the first innings. Still anyone’s game. Second innings beginning before lunch on the second day means there is going to be a result.

That’s twice he’s gone in the 90s.
It was with an impressive batting average.
Boer Trekkers are two for bugger all.

it’s voortrekkers, BTW. Literal translation would be something like those who walk at the front. Pathfinder would be a good fit in English.
3 for -61.
4 down, and they’re still trailing.

About 120 overs have been bowled and it is very nearly over
Well, that was all very strange.

Incredibly green. But that’s not the whole story. Australia was by far the better team.
Less than 2 days…
Anyway, 1 – nil and pass the Datura salad.
They’ll blame the wicket for the poor batting performance at the gabba for this test and probably give it bad marks in the post test summary, sure it was lively but the result was down to poor batting technique more than anything. The top order batsmen who were bowled were bowled between bat and pad, through the gate and that is poor technique and lack of foot work.
I remember many years ago watching on TV the poms playing a warm up game against WA at the WACA.
Denis Amiss gave a master class on how to play on a pitch that was doing a bit and against a very good WA attack. Bat and pad always close together, when he came forward he came right forward and when he went back he went right back, he never got caught on the crease.
I don’t think he had a long career, in those days he probably went and got a proper job but it would do some of the current batsmen a lot of good to have a good look at that video.
I don’t think he set the world on fire but watching him that day really impressed me.

Agree.
The pitch was shit Too green. you want the game to go into a 4th or 5th day.
Maybe the result would have been the same with Australia winning by 6 wickets at ;lunch on day 5. But having it all over within 2 days is not good enough. Bear in mind that Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first on this pitch, had the toss gone the other way Australia might have struggled batting first.
Don’t want a pitch where the result is too heavily dependent on the toss.
