My mother would ask me to choose what I wanted eg hankies, socks, undies etc., then ask me to wrap all the presents, including my own. Okay, this was when I was a young mum with 2 kids

I’ve been struggling to photograph my Christmas window. So here are some mediocre photos, some daytime, some nighttime. In my head this is White Clown sitting by a waterfall of lights which pour into a pool at his feet, with his chooks in the green tinsel grass across the creek. With lots of birds and butterflies perched on an Interesting Gum Tree Branch.

I’m not that keen on spinach. But I do quite like Tetragonia (native spinach). I grow it myself, so I know which weeds I’m picking with it.

Good effort.
I suppose I should put my Santa-hatted skulls out on the dresser.
Ho-ho-ho here they are, posed with a couple of tinplate toys from my sister’s shop.

Couple views of the Xmas tree and decorations in my sister’s shop, snapped through the window at night.

Clowns (my white clown is a Pierrot, with a crystal teardrop on his cheek. I’ve got some others, a red and a green, but they are still in their suitcase up in the top of the wardrobe) and skulls…we aren’t very traditional really are we.

My across-the-road neighbour just popped in gave me beers. He got given them by a client from work, but he doesn’t drink beer.
I gave him a canvas bag that I took home from work. One of the pile of rejects. I was going to give them away to my family, if they want any. He seemed pleased enough to score it.

¡ what with recent anti-vaccination trends and SARACAIDS-CoV immune damage we can all get all of the childhood diseases again !

That was yesterday, we had a lovely lunch. I’m enjoying a solo Xmas Day :)
I’m not really disappointed. The family will be exchanging presents when we get together for the big family do, maybe next weekend.
I’m going to do a nice roast beef dinner today, followed by Xmas pud & custard.

Still lots of trifle here. Had to have small serves to have 2 desserts. But beware…there is no fruit in my trifle. It is simply jam rollettes + port + port wine jelly + custard. With more jelly chopped into cubes put on top of the dish.

These dutch creams roasted very well. But I have actually put the rest of them (along with the leftover parsnips and carrots) back in the oven for a while to get extra-crispy.

I’ve watched you over the years struggle with heat timidity, not enough heat or too short a cooking time.
But it gives me great joy that on this twenty fifth day of December in the year of our Lord MMXXII you can stand up in front of us and admit you have a heat problem.

Not at all. The meat was roasted to perfection, basically two hours in there. The roast veg was excellent too, but I just fancied some more crispy bits amongst the leftovers.

ABC News:
‘‘I don’t get to see daddy’: Prisoners’ families in limbo after Christmas Eve visits cancelled
By Rebecca Trigger
Families have been left in the lurch after Hakea Prison, in Perth’s south, cancelled family visits the day before Christmas Eve due to a COVID-19 outbreak.’
And do you know why you didn’t get to see daddy, dear?
Because daddy broke the law. And daddy wasn’t terribly clever, and daddy got caught. And daddy got put into chokey.
Daddy’s a prisoner, dear, and the penalties for being a prisoner include the surrender of certain rights. Like who you see, and when and how you see them.
Why don’t you have a little talk with daddy about his choice of activities when his release date rolls around, dear?

Just got back from the fams dinner. It was all very jolly and loud with lashings of food for everyone. We took Nanna out for a drive afterwards so she could get away from the noise and see the coutryside and how much it has changed. Had a great Xmas.
Received great gifts, the offered gifts were received with happiness, the Wench put on an awesome Xmas lunch for the family (Probably Mum’s last) and I had an afternoon nap after consuming a small bottle of Chimay Blue.
And in even better news, I have managed to work out how to buy items from Ukrainian sellers on Australian ebay, so have finally managed to pick up some “Russian Warship Go F..ck Yourself” and “Good Evening, We’re from Ukraine!” stamps.

It is Christmas night and I wake from a snooze to find a really irritatiing noise permeating my brain. So I got up and rugged up against the mosqitoes and went for a walk. Turns out there’s two greatfucking Kenworth prime movers parked a couple of houses down the street and they are both eunning some sort of diesel motor that is at a fast idle both of them are running and I have no idea why. The whole village is apparently asleep but now I will have to plug my ear but I doubt I’ll get back to sleep easily. The noises seems to be vibrating through the floor and the diesel fumes are also an issue.

Dark Orange said:Had a great Xmas.
Glad that your Mum’s possible last Xmas went so well! Those are important moments.
Sounds productive!
The stamps sound amazing!
Thanks, she is forgetting things and I suspect the next 12 months will prove quite difficult.
As for the stamps, I ordered a couple of sheets when they first came out, but the site went down and the confirmation email never came through. The country was at war, so no surprise.
And I think the “russian warship” stamp/message is worth putting on display:

…and the other has great humour:

So did all the family Christmases remain free of sour moments, squabbles and heated disagreements?
Mind yer own bleedin’ business.
I see you all had a busy day here yesterday.
Christmas lunch/dinner all went well, with only the occasional cross word from daughter directed towards naughty grandsons, thanks for asking.

We are eating trifle for lunch today. Just trifle. We will eat real food (zuchini/onion/tomato/bacon stirfry) for tea.

Little bowl of Xmas pud & custard for lunch here.
Dinner will doubtless be leftover roast beef & trimmings.

Well i et smoked ham slices for breakfast and just enjoyed some of the oven baked marinated chicken pieces with some of the leftover taters and a salad of lettuce, cherry tomatoes and sliced cucumber with a vinegarette dressing for lunch … not too bad at all.

Sounds very nice.
Our family gathering won’t be for a while after all, ‘cos we’re going to wait until the nephew comes back from his two-week wilderness walk. He’s setting off tomorrow I think.

Well it wouldn’t be Xmas without hot cross buns.

At Xmas last year, i asked Mrs S’s nephew, who’s a bakery for one of the bakery chains, when he’d have to start making hot cross buns.
‘Mate’, he said, ‘we’ve been baking them for weeks.’

Actually, he just a baker, not an entire bakery.

Sorry to hear about your Mother. Dementia is a hard slog, it’s a marathon and not a sprint…
That first stamp is magnificent! Giving the finger to the Russian ship! That was such a great moment!
