sorry I had to make an April chat. I miss the month by month topic thing and it make’s it a tiny bit easier to look back on something one may have missed. :D

Some of my friends came round last night and showed their slides of travel trough india. there’s a place in the south of india called ‘the backwaters’ which is a series of very large inlets almost at sea level. its so wet that the government has a ‘dewatering’ programme. they are constantly pumping water OUT of the ground to grow crops. bit of a contrast to here.

likewise Pepe. As in the UK, some parts flooded and yet they drink recycled water…

I think we all drink recycled water… It might have been through a lion, a gum tree or a duck..

There hasn’t been new water made for a very long time!

Morning all,
It’s a lovely sunny day here. I did a lot outside yesterday, prepared the bed where I want to grow onions, took shadecloth down, re-staked roses (Again), tidied the greenhouse and all sorts of bits and pieces. I don’t know what I’ll do today, but know I’ll only have to walk out of the door, and there’ll be plenty to do!

back at work today. neck much improved after the visit to the chiropractor – love those magic hands! lol! wearing a scarf though so my neck stays warm.

its late in the day and the dishes from last nights feast are not done and my limbs are weary from wood chopping and compost building. might blob out on the puter a while.

I,m not far behind you there. I got nothing of what I wanted to do done. Really bad day with giant son and I’m wrecked.

thats really nice of them – trouble is they need a reward – cake anyone? – or biscuits moulded in the shape of kangaroos – got heaps of them.

and I answered with

and was spoken again with…

me thinks it was a wrong number….lol

Made me feel good and I enjoyed buying food after that call:D

Not particularly. I’ve seen artichoke hearts on pizzas so why not add the asparagus and any other vege you fancy.

Ah, in the good ol’ days when I was a single mum and had an acre to mow, plus a huge vegie patch … there’d be nights during daylight saving when the Feral Teenager would yell out the window “it’s nearly bedtime mum, what’s for dinner?” – my standard reply: “it’s too late to cook – get a plate of breakfast cereal for you and your little brother”!

Mr Y is away tonight, so the kids had tacos. He nags them about their manners the whole time when they’re messy, so it’s easier to leave that meal to when he’s not here :-)

In my Business Administration course that I’m doing at TAFE, one of the electives they offer is Digital Photography. My first assignment is, using my own (very low-tech, older, very little manual controls) digital camera, to take 3 separate portrait shots, which I then upload to the TAFE computer and fiddle with using Adobe Photoshop, print out the good copies and show the file path to the originals so teacher can compare and mark them.

I need to get clear eyes on my subjects and fuzzy backgrounds. I finally figured out how to get the background fuzzy at about 5.30 this afternoon, yay!!! And I figured it out all on my own!!! Happy, happy dance!!! Now that I know that my camera doesn’t follow the generic instructions we were given by the teacher, I can take some decent shots, yay!!!

When is it due? Well, given that I haven’t got enough shots that fulfil the criteria yet, let alone Photoshopped them, let alone got them printed … er, I don’t think I’ll be handing them in at 9am, huh?

Teacher is lovely, so it’ll be all good :-)

We had a new low fat Macoroni Cheese thingy that I did for MrP because of his special Heart Foundation Red Tick diet. It was awful!!! No wonder people hate dieting. A fair bit of mucking around too but it was so bland, Bland, Bland. If I ever make it again and there is a good possibility that I never will. I will have to use some garlic and herbs to give it some flavour. Yuk!

Sorry I have missed everyone today. Been pretty busy.

MrP had his Coronary Angioplasty in Brisbane last week so we weren’t home for a few days. I have been trying to catch up on a few things that have been neglected for a while and there is still biscuits to be made and chilli jam to concoct, classes to go to, etc. So far, retirement isn’t dull.

I’m feeling like a naughty kid. Mr Y is away on a course, and I am staying up really late because the computer is in our bedroom, so I don’t have to worry about keeping him awake. Or having him reminding me that the alarm goes off REALLY early.

I’ll feel the effects tomorrow, no doubt * YAWN * !!

Good morning. Nice to see a monthly chat, I couldnt get the whole chat thread up so had to keep clicking each individual post.

Got a sideways promotion at work on Friday, better hours and more pay but I have to work everyday this week :( I mostly knock off at 5pm now, so much better than 8.

Have to go, as I start even earlier now. Will try to pop in on the weekend, I want to start my blog up so have a lot of before pictures to take.

I have been ‘wandering the hall’s’ since 5 am a bit lost. Looking for where I keep the milk .
Brain fog happening. Can’t think straight.
Put sugar in my cuppa when I don’t have sugar. Not coping with giant son at the moment either. He was savage last night and got warned I will call the police. He went to bed thank goodness.
Not depression I’m sure but a sad feeling of ‘ things are as they seem’ sort of.
My beautiful friend’s cancer is spreading. Not long now.
I pray she goes into remission.
With her demise comes another responsibility , one that I’m more than happy to take on though.. guardianship of her 19 yo daughter. She has no rellies and no one else.
I will help her maintain her house and help her build a memory garden. She said she would love that.

i can associate with the brain fog – chuckle.
i dreamt last night i had lots (60) of chooks. just now i flicked a little scorpion (yes definitely a scorpion) off my hand and i’m inside.
and last night one of those big grasshoppers ‘knocked’ on the door by flinging itself at the flywire to get to the interior light. i opened the flyscreen to see what it was and in it flies. i later caught it and put it outside but not until the poodles had exhausted it.

wild, wet, windy, westerly weather at the moment.
the day started badly with red dust clouds looking like fire smoke on the northern horizon. all gone now and some good rain. i wouldn’t want to be driving at this moment though.

Lucky you Peps nothing here still. The concrete got damp a few days ago but thats it.

OH tried out an eggplant curry last night – partly for my sake as he prefers a meal with meat, but on the proviso of “I usually don’t like eggplant but I want to find a way to eat it that I DO like” from me.

more likely that his first new mobile phone bought at 10 am yesterday was broken by 4 pm. He was recording some u tube on it and it took up all the data space. He thought just put a bigger flash card in it and proceeded to take it apart. Dad fixed it , but he was still in a bad mood about it.

I know those little scorpions too , took giant son camping once ( never again ) with some friends at Daylesford Vic , and he ran off into the bush at night carrying on like a pork chop…and I , with a torch, sat watching whilst he proceeded to tear a fallen tree apart, with little scorpian’s all over my feet. I said to him “ermm I don’t want to stop you but there’s these little scorpian’s everywhere, on you too”. He screamed all the way back to the camp. Revenge of the Scorpian’s.

So far everything’s blowing away lol.

Chook’s are huddling in their house. Still got 4 egg’s though. Window’s are rattling big time. Fish pond is full of mud from a dust storm.

Latest wild weather warning for melbonite’s.

The bureau expects storm force winds involving a cold change and south-westerly winds to replace current warm northerly winds across Victoria.

“We have squally and dusty wind gusts of 120 km/h on the way,’‘ Mr Blake said.

The winds were expected to reach Melbourne by 5pm, if not earlier, he said.

Love the gym junkies…..LOL puts so many kids to shame……if they could see these people (exclud elf) in the 70’s & 80’s trying to improve their quailty of life…. maybe a lot of them would stop smoking.

all fun and games here at work. power kept shutting down so we had to turn off the computers for an hour until the power stabilised.

apparently the West Gate Bridge is currently closed to trucks and the wind change will happen right on peak hour! Havoc for sure!

That could be a lot better actually – the recipe OH used last night was eggplant, some onion and a bit of mushroom.. could’ve done with something more flavoursome to balance out the eggplant. Oh well.

We’ve just discovered there are now organic fruit & veg companies who will deliver weekly boxes into our area, so the plan is to switch over to one of those – should lead to some interesting new meals as you never know what you’re going to get!

A lovely lady from a knitting forum, dropped off some knitting needles she ordered for me. As well as paying for them, I gave her a dozen eggs for delivering them to me in person:D

She said she needed to buy eggs and was so pleased about getting them.

toppings – thinly sliced zuchs, my red capsicums, fetta, artichokes and asparagus and tom paste and cheese.
the cook will be home any minute so i’ll be right..
(4mm rain is all – with all this wind it felt more like 40).

Just turning into my street and there is a tree across the road in front of me. Could just get around it. Have called the council but who knows how long it will take to get removed. Animals are all OK. Some covers blown off cages and a few pot plants blown over but nothing serious. On the way home passed a nursery that would have 75% of their stock blown over. Must keep a look out for any sales in the next couple of weeks…

getting the pizza right means that the pasta ain’t far away.

The thing with Pizzas is that there’s no “how many olives are needed” or “how many slices of salami” to put on so if you can get the right balance of tastes, then you’re learning a whole lot about assembling food and cooking….

Next week on wednesday, make the same Pizza and see how different it tastes…

The wind has died down now but the damage about the town is awful in place’s.
We have propped the fence up somewhat , and picked up plant’s from broken pot’s, sitting in a tub for re planting later. We have an extra patio chair ‘blow in’ and have paint tins and a kiddie chair in the pond. Not our rubbish, but the council’s hard rubbish collection is this week and lot’s of stuff on nature strip’s went flying about.
I have a plastic crate wedged under my car.

A car in a supermarket carpark here copped a tree too .

We had a worry when middle daughter didn’t arrive home at the usual time, but she had to detour because of a tree down near her work and she went straight to her fiance’s parent’s place.
I’m just glad we have power…giant son is on his pc and quiet. Phew.

we saw it here on the tv. that steel worker was obviously a professional – occupational hazard – i hope the insurance company doesn’t give his wife any grief.

Yes, like the westgate bridge , down to a crawl and no trucks ,cars with caravan’s or motorbike’s were allowed across.
No way in the planet I would have gone over that today.

A friend was just telling me on msn that the big Cole’s supermarket sign in Melton came down across 7 car’s. The lot are write off’s. But no one hurt, thank goodness.

Hope you are all still standing after your shocking weather down there. We are having dreamy conditions here. Chilly nights but not freezing. Beautiful warm sunny days but not hot. Perfect Autumn weather so to speak.

My second lot of sweet peas are in and standing upright. MrP planted out some strawberry runners that we were given yesterday. I bet we have to fight lots of wildlife for those when they fruit. My rhubarb is trying to recover after some neglect. Everything that lives in the garden, love rhubarb leaves. They are all full of holes. Pity they weren’t toxic to them but it’s not a part we eat anyway I suppose.

I have collected seeds from my Calodendrum. Might see if they grow or not. All the climbers planted on the fence (13) seem to be doing OK. We’ll see how winter affects them.

Grass needs mowing again. Hasn’t slowed down at all because the weather is cooler.

I’ve taken care of stuff that is doing well and I’m not going to mention the stuff that is stuffed. LOL.

Yeah, there’s always something isn’t there.

I had better go and strike a blow towards a cleaner house. Sometimes I wish I was a bag lady then I wouldn’t have any responsiblities like housework.

It’s nice to have a calmer day today. The rain keeps arriving though, not that I’m complaining, but I need to get out and fix up the standard roses that got blown sideways. I walked up to the local corner shop to get a paper for Mr O40 and got soaked on the way back. And they didn’t save me a paper, Again. There’s a big tree split in half next door and smaller ones down further along. OOH the sun’s just broken through BBL

A script I get at usual chemist is $ 33.10 , at the Chemist Warehouse it is $16.90 and the generic brand of the tab’s is cheaper still, another $ 3 off. :D

Just came inside to get an O ring for tap – phone rang – I found computer still on – now have lost the O ring – just as well I have a packet of them!

Must go again – up since before 5am but bugger all to show for the day more than 7-1/2 hrs later!! Trying to get some Nitrophoska Blue Special fertiliser (all-purpose balanced) scattered and watered in as a few thing are too floppy and Supergreen around Grevilleas and heaps of cuttings have to be either potted up or planted out – or I will lose them… A bit of time-management is called for! :D

Have to agree with you about cheese prices Lucky. I couldn’t find any cheese under $9 per kg last shopping day. Back maybe a year ago I could always buy it for $5 lg. That is a huge rise but it’s happened with yoghurt and lots of dairy products. I can’t believe we are paying almost $4 for 2lt milk. Got it for nothing for 2 years, while we were in the dairy. Now we are on lite milk so it’s dearer again than just full cream.

Prices and groceries are not my favourite subjects to think about. Too many negatives. Plus I can’t do anything to fix it.

I’m bored, I want to go home :(

Sure has and there seems to be more beach drownings of late and summer just pass.

Most of the clean up finished, fence repaired and broken pot’s out for collection, old potting mix got chucked on the bulb bed.
Still shower’s on and off so can’t sweep path’s yet.
Worm farms fed and liquid collected. Chook’s got broken pumpkin leaf’s and capsicum plant’s.

I’ve restaked the roses that fell over in the wind, no doubt they will work loose when more wind hits them . There were a few broken stems but i expected worse. The twisted willow had dropped so many twigs and leaves it took 3 barrowloads to clean up. On the whole I think I got away lightly compared to some :)

Wood chopping complete – there’s enough stored for the winter with just the kindling to be sawn up.
Composting complete for the time being – three times i stacked the compost up to the three quarter height of the bin and now its sunk to below half way again. At least i know its active.
And i’ve started forking the winter bed where the soil is friable – but very dry.
Which reminds me – the shock of the day! – we got 3mm of rain last night. no-one heard it – it wasn’t predicted but theres 3mm in the gauge and everything’s wet – keep sending it down huey.

One of my neighbours just came over to see if I wanted any mulch. A mate of his is getting some next weekend, so I ordered 15 bales for $4 each plus a bit of petrol money. I hope that’s enough, I find it hard to judge in advance, and any I store only provides nesting for rats.

Just changed the oil in the rocket..

Old car took 6 litres. This one takes 2.9 Litres. So cute!

Everything is so small, my adjustable oil filter undoer was way too big.. But it gets me where I need to go and uses buggerall petrol, so at $1.48/lt all is forgiven!

Me to as she will be the start of my regular sunflower crops for the chooks. Another step towards self sustaining.
The new chook pen exrensions are done and I am now planting out in the old area to replenish it for when they go into there again. I put in 2 hug Lemon grass clumps this afternoon and will put the Chokos in tomorrow along with lots of pigeon peas on the outside for regular picking and shade

I don’t know yet. I happened to see it at the markets but there was no name on it and the seller didn’t have a clue. I asked if it flowered and what colour and she said she had never seen it flower. I did a Google and found it was an Epi.

I couldn’t make hot cross buns in mine, because I lost the book for my breadmaker ages ago, but fortunately had the recipe for a standard wholemeal loaf written on the back of an envelope. Note to self – internet search for breadmaker instructions and recipes!!! The Feral Teenager has decided that an inch-thick slab of homemade bread fits perfectly in his lunchbox, so he wedges about 4 of them in at a time. He reckons breadmaker bread is the ‘steak’ of bread! (High praise indeed)

We had to download and print our bread recipe book too. MrP did it because I had to go to work at that time. It took an hour and a half to do. My name was mud when I got home.

I use the flea markets a lot for plants. You never know what you will find. I got a Black Eyed Susan creeper (that I had been looking for) and a Stenocarpus ‘doreen’ today.
As well as the Epi.

Some are but most are OK, if anyone bids too high you can’t really blame the seller. You need to know what’s a good price, but sometimes you can get things that aren’t readily available, like my Epis, so it comes down to how badly you want it.
One thing I’ve learnt is that if you miss out it’s only a matter of time until the same thing is offered again.
