It’s VERY purple, but both Mr Y and I agreed that the colour that’s come out isn’t as bright as we remembered choosing – bought the paint over a year ago. Wanted a bold colour that had a grey cast as the roof is a light grey. Tried a few sample pots of blue but couldn’t quite find a colour we liked. Tried some hot orange but thought that was a bit too much. Found this colour “mother’s violets” in a photo of a completed house in a paint catalogue and did the “dammit we’re over looking at colours, that’ll do”.

Since painting the house yesterday we agreed that WE really like the colour – just hope it isn’t too much for a prospective purchaser!

Anyway, have told you all about it, here are some pics of the works in progress:

Verandah posts all painted white (and the verandah ceiling but you can’t see that in this pic – and the one I did take is boring so I won’t bother posting it!):

Photobucket

Eastern end painted halfway up (need to seal the joins in the Hardiplank above that before I can paint – and need something to stand on!):

Photobucket

Eastern end – trying to get an idea of how it’ll look by cutting off the upainted bit – love the contrast of a bold colour plus white trim:

Photobucket

Took a photo of the eaves painted white but that’s boring too, so trust me – and my blisters – it’s been done!!

nice colour.

a scaffold is what you need but they are not easy. normally two ladders with a stout plank between.

the ladders have to be firmly seated on the ground and the plank shouldn’t shag when stood on.

i have a scaffold here not being used – so one of your neighbours might have some – difficult thing to ask for tho.

Used a scaffold to get the Hardiplank up there in the first place, refer to my blog:

http://yeehahsgarden.blogspot.com/

there’s a picture of me doing exactly that :)

Anyways, because I traded the Courier (with roofrack and canopy) for a zippy little Astra, there’s no way of getting the scaffold/ladders and trestles the 46km out of town to the house.

If I could get them there it’s be a cinch. Looks like the weather could be good for more painting on the weekend too, darnit.

Can’t sleep despite being very tired,so here’s an update.

Solved the lack of trestles problem for reaching the high gable ends to be painted. I went as high as I could with the stepladder, Mr Y used the extension ladder to do above that.

Finished the last coat of white gloss on verandah posts, doors and jambs.

Got 90% of the first coat of colour done. Mr Y fixed a solar panel wire (someone – possibly me – tripped on and broke a connection) and cooked dinner while I soldiered on painting until dark. So he didn’t get the western gable end finished.

Northern side:

Eastern end (Mr Y hadn’t quite finished when I took the photo) and nortern side:

Was dark by the time I finished under the verandah on the southern side, so didn’t get any more photos.

I’m really keen to help Mr Y tidy up and load up the trailer for the tip, the house will look fantastic when decluttered!

Have spoken with agents and insurance broker. Need Cert of Occupancy (expecting that it will be conditional) after Council building inspector comes out on Thursday, then need Building Report to get Home Warranty Insurance, then can list the house for sale, yay!

Figured I did close to 8 hours with a paintbrush in my hand … all brush, no rollering, mind!

When I stood up after dinner (9pm) to leave the bush block and drive back into town, said “gee I’m glad I’m gonna get paid to sit down tomorrow!”

http://yeehahsgarden.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Start on this page and read chronologically on from there.

What isn’t on the blog is that there was lots of Family Court … Mr Y has a (now 11yo) daughter, her mother is a head case … and my younger son (now 13yo), her father is not far behind … we paid out over $33,000 in legal fees, plus when Mr Y finally got legal aid, his Legal Aid bill topped out at $30,000. I was accused of physically abusing my stepdaughter, which was the final straw late last year.

I moved out in March 2010. Mr Y doesn’t want to keep the house because, apart from the fact that it was “ours” and I won’t be going back, he’s realised the distance problems are a bit much too (46km to our little town, but to get work he often has to go 70km beyond here, making a huge drive, long day and hard work now he’s effectively a single dad).

So we’re working to get the house ready to sell. Sad, but I think even if we hadn’t separated, I’d have gotten the woops with the travel. From the outset I had said that I hated the dirt road and I didn’t like the isolation. Living in town is so much easier (with me working and the boy being able to walk everywhere), less travel, less wear and tear on the car, less expense.

Council building inspector visited the house this morning. Not much to do really – he will be issuing a conditional Cert of Occupancy. We need metal screen doors x 2, paved “landing” outside 2 x doors, finish off the painting, finish trim under the verandah, can’t remember the last thing.

Mr Y reckons we need to knock more over before it gets listed though. Told him we need it listed before Christmas so when people have time off over Christmas and surf real estate sites, we’re in with a chance!

(I do recall saying a looong time ago that it’d be a miracle if it was listed by bluddy Christmas at the rate things were(n’t) going and my pessimism was poo-pooed.)

Mr Y was away yesterday so I Christmas shopped and caught up with friends. We worked on the carport for 6 hours today and I gave up, came home, left him doing some bracing. Still have to put roof sheeting, guttering, etc, on. Next weekend, all being well.

After next weekend will get agents out for a look. I’ll be getting the contracts ready this week. Mr Y has to organise a couple of things tomorrow then we’ll be ready to list and hopefully sell it.

Update. Dammit.

Mr Y rang, he’s going with the building inspector who’s $200 cheaper than the local bloke, but they can’t get up here until next Tuesday 7th. Then it’ll take them a couple of days to get the report done (fair dink!! all they have to do is tick boxes on a bluddy form!) then when the report goes to the insurance agent it’ll take up to 3 days to get the certificate of currency back. Soonest I can see having all the paperwork ready is next Fri 10th, but hopefully not later than Friday 17th.

Earlier this year I said to Mr Y “at this rate we’ll be lucky to get it listed by Christmas” and he pshaw-ed at me!!!

AAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!

So no point getting agents out to take photos until end of next week anyway. That’s if I can spend ALL this weekend helping finish the carport AND tidying the bluddy godawful messy house up. “Darling, I’m not good at organising things…” means I have to do it or it won’t get done.

Stomp. Stomp. Mutter. Grumble.

Heading out to the bush block shortly. Mr Y and I plan to get up early, before the heat of the day sets in, and finish putting the roof on the carport.

Then all that’s left to do are the two paved “landings” outside the doors, order/purchase/hang the screen doors and should be able to get final certificate of occupancy so can list the place for sale.

Oh, Council wants the Termi-Mesh certificate from the bloke who installed the termite barrier stuff when the slab went down, but I’ve already rung the concreter and requested that. Hopefully it will all fall into place soon. Sick of paying half the mortgage.
