Any good recipes? I’ve never tasted it before so I’ve no idea what to expect.

I’ve not tried a slow cooker corned anything.. but I dare say if you search for recipes it would be the same as for a piece of corned beef.
It’s been ages since I had pickled pork.

Pickled Pork and Peas Puddin’.

simply boil the pork in water, but add a cup of yellow split peas tied up in a hanky and boiled in the same water. Make a white sauce and serve with cabbage and potatoes.

Just plain water? Sounds a bit dull.

seen this one ? I’d also put a small peeled onion and a bay leaf in the water with the rest.

Crockpot Pickled Pork or Corned Beef
Chef: Mervyn from Grovely

612-ABC and ABC Local Radio Queensland presenter Kelly Higgins-Devine was looking for recipes for the slow cooker after her producer Anne Debert bought one!

This is one of the many that came through

Degree of difficulty: Low

You need:
Good size joint of beef or rolled pork
1 dessertspoon of vinegar,
1 dessertspoon brown sugar
1 slice orange

Method:
Put meat in the crock pot and cover with water.

Add one dessertspoon of vinegar, one dessertspoon brown sugar, slice of an orange. Turn the crockpot on before you go to work.

When you come home turn it off and allow to cool for 2 hours in that water, then take out and let sit (the cooling in the 2 hours of water drains the extra salt out of it and allows the meat to set)

If you can’t wait that long you can turn off when you get home and take out of the water and let set for 15 mins and then slice and eat.

Pickled pork is the same.

Serving Suggestion: Have with steamed cabbage, frozen green beans, steamed potato, steamed carrots and a white mustard sauce

Same with Corned Beef but you still add stuff to the water.

That seems to be the most common method. I’m still considering the cider though.

I’d do that too, then cut it in half and roast one half. I’ve done that with beef but not pork..

I just checked… it seems that the peas puddin’ should really be with the corned beef and pickled pork is just boiled in water. Served with a parsley sauce.

I myself have cooked it with peas puddin’ and its yummo.

Charles Monselet once said that the pig is “nothing but an immense dish that walks while waiting to be served”.
