What is the extent of each, where are the borders, and how do they relate to the rest of the globe and its oceans?
Post your maps and arguments here.

Oceans are for sailin’ on, and seas are for swimmin’ in.

There once was a ship that put to sea
The name of the ship was the Billy of Tea
The winds blew up, her bow dipped down
Oh blow, my bully boys, blow (huh)

After due consideration by the PWM team and following protocols as set down in Article IV of the Oceans Act (2023) this post has been deemed inappropriate and will be stricken from the record as said listed items are not oceans.
You can of course appeal to the Oceans Ombudsman but to be brutally Frank to do so will only be wasting your time and theirs.
Good day Sir.

On the other hand.

Then there’s this one, which clearly marks the waters south of Australia as “Southern Ocean” not “Indian Ocean”
Note how the “exclusive economic zone” on this map includes waters of Australia’s Antarctic Territories, which are not recognised by many other countries.

Or this one. Note how the mid-ocean ridge south of Australia is called “Southeast Indian Ridge” referring to the ocean south of Australia being considered as part of the Indian Ocean.

So so far, two maps have been posted where the water south of Australia is the Southern Ocean. And two maps have been posted where the water south of Australia is the Indian Ocean.
It’s a tie.
There’s one ocean, which a single contiguous basin. There are some continents and islands in it.
