chatGPT is changing our lives, and I wonder now how long until the Singularity occurs?
With gratitude to esselte!

I asked chatGPT to write a song to the tune of a pub with no beer about a country fire station that doesn’t have any hoses and this is what it came up with. What with chatGPT going all Flowers for Algernon lately though, I’m not sure how well this works.
In what way is it going Flowers for Algernon?
In that I meant is it on the up-slope or the degrading part of the story?
Degrading. The owners OpenAI are increasingly censoring and restricting theability of ChatGPT to answer questions, and it’s getting less intelligent-seeming by the day as a result.
See this Reddit thread to see what people are saying.

or if you would prefer not to read the thread, here are some examples from it:
Also note to be fair the reddit thread also has many people saying they still find it as good as it ever was. My own personal opinion is that is much more stupid now than it was just a week ago.
——————————————————————————————————
I use it to generate marketing stuff, like tweets about a product or an app, as well as to generate content for websites.
The first weeks it was amazing, I could basically just copy-paste anything it wrote and it was better than anything I could have done myself. I asked it to optimize for search engines and it generated insanely good text that sounded natural despite the heavy but creative use of keywords.
Now it’s still decent, but the quality has dropped significantly. It tends to generate dull, bland generic marketing stuff with little creativity. It always needs major rewriting. And now, asking it to optimize for search engines/keywords produces mediocre results, often unusable.
——————————————————————————————————-
For creative writing purposes, it always just goes with the most generic and safe option.
At the start it gave me much more interesting outputs.
———————————————————————————————————
It’s not just erotic or controversial jokes, it’s all humor & most classical literature. For example, even Brothers Grimm fairytales (sic) are now controversial for it. Meaning, if you’re a writer, who was previously using it for grammatical error checking, if it encounters any content with violence or baseline actions of a villain, it won’t check the grammar. Instead it will now give you a long winded responses about how your story could be hurtful to some people.
———————————————————————————————————-
It also won’t follow logic when it thinks said logic could be offensive to a particular group.
———————————————————————————————————-
I use it for code too, and after the updates it is like pulling teeth to get it to give me anything that isn’t beginner level code.
I also enjoyed using it to help me rewrite awkward sentences or ideas in my fiction and it flat out refuses anything that isn’t G rated.
It’s really frustrating that this technology exists and we can no longer use it however we want. Instead of making stronger filters for racism and bomb schematics , they dumbed it down, upped the restrictions across the board and force it to keep answers as brief as possible.
————————————————————————————————————-
It’s not just the censoring – it’s that it doesn’t remember very well anymore and it can’t roleplay and let you enter some of the more creative things you used to be able to do with it.
If you’re just asking it to write a song or write a poem you might not notice a difference (although, I argue that its writing has become worse), but if you want an ongoing narrative and to roleplay, it’s next to useless now. Well – useless compared to how incredible it was a few weeks ago.
And the censoring isn’t just people trying to make dirty stories or hate speech. It stops anything that is even remotely PG rated. One person reported it telling them that it wouldn’t generate a response because it was offensive to CATS for goodness sake.
