Subject: Boy Blinkers

I am feeling inventive. I think I will coin a new term. Just googled it and it doesn’t pop up.

“Boy blinkers” = the inability of boys and men to see anything other than what is directly in front of them. E.g. “he couldn’t find his keys, he must’ve had his boy blinkers on”.

Let’s see how far we can spread it!

I’ll sign up!!

I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about this issue – Mr Bon has boy blinkers and my main colleague (who I share an office with) is the same. I often quiz them as to what their brains are doing, if not processing visual stimuli ;)

However, in my case I put it down to the fact that I’m a Highly Sensitive Person (http://www.hsperson.com/) and not because they’re male.

My dad doesn’t have blinkers – he’s like me, constantly spotting details of plants and wildlife.

OMG, Older Son, Littlemiss, Younger Son’s father and I are very HSPs. Younger son ain’t – reckon he’s got a tough hide as the result of living with lots of HSPs!!

Mr Y and Younger Son are not HSPs but Younger Son is highly sensitive to Mr Y :(

I bought a couple of the books from the lady who runs that site, and spent half the time going “holy crap, that’s not just me?!” as I read them :D Some of the things I thought “naaaaaaaaaaaah, that’s not me at all”, but then as I read further and started to pay more attention to how other people were behaving/reacting, I realised it did apply to me, I just hadn’t quite defined the word “sensitive” in that way before.

I dunno if you can get them at libraries or anything – I found them really useful to teach myself to see the world from a non-HSP perspective, so I’m not misunderstanding or incorrectly judging people as often.

Well I’m not really much of a believer in the standard gender stereotypes – just thought I’d offer a different theory :D

ms pepe and i agree
- with whatever it was you meant to say –
“what was that dear? – ms p says she wished she had boy blinkers…. um – oh well – what was the topic again… focus – that’s it – you are inventive and admire the way young boys focus on one thing at a time – yes i agree….”
