It looks like the only version on the Australian pop charts was the one by the Pet Shop Boys, which appeared in 1988.
Unfortunately, I don’t have reference material from much later than that – I stopped working as a ‘rocky jockey’ around that time and joined the refined atmosphere of ABC Radio in 1988/89.
