Solid metal ball discovered within Earth’s inner core

People have been taught for decades that our planet Earth is made up of four layers – the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core. This assumption has been widely accepted in scientific circles. But now, a study from Australian National University has revealed evidence of a fifth layer – a giant metal ball named the “innermost inner core.”

bullshit popular science explanations again what a fn crock

seems like what they’ve discovered is that the solid ball of inner core has a phase transition between different solids

however we too may be incorrectly interpreting into our unpopular SCIENCE explanation so please do check it yourselves

“The inferred model supports the existence of the anisotropically-distinctive IMIC from its outer shell, which might indicate a fundamental shift in the IC’s growth regime in the Earth’s past. We now have enough seismological evidence from several different lines of investigation about the existence of IMIC. Future efforts should be directed toward characterizing the IMIC-OIC transition (its depth and nature).”

This innermost inner core (IMIC) is about 650 km diameter.

That’s a big ball bearing.
