“the man who almost single-handedly financed Trump’s election campaign”
Who is this man?
This guy I think:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Adelson
Fair enough. But he appears on the rich-list according to the link you posted. MWF said different…
Not that one. He only owns one Las Vegas casino. A bit-part player at best.
There are two companies that share and dominate the Las Vegas casino scene. They swap casinos for a few billion dollars occasionally, and work together on other occasions. But they are officially rivals (possibly to avoid monopoly legislation).
These two companies are Vici Properties Inc and MGM Resorts International.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vici_Properties “owns 48 casinos, hotels, and racetracks and 4 golf courses around the United States and Canada”.
The CEO of Vici Properties Inc is Edward Baltazar Pitoniak. Although he’s not necessarily the person with whom the greatest amount of money resides. Surprisingly, or not, he doesn’t have his own wikipedia entry.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MGM_Resorts_International has 10 casinos on the Las Vegas strip. And is tied in closely with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MGM_Growth_Properties. The CEO and president of MGM Resorts is William J. Hornbuckle.
As with all gambling, government control of casinos is lax. Money is power, and so long as the government gets its tax cut of profits, it doesn’t took too hard at where the money goes.
Back in the days of Herbert Hoover, until 1964, the FBI was the world centre for blackmail. I have no idea where the world centre is now, but it would be raking in quite a lot of cash.
I suspect that Google is raking in undeclared income from the NSA. A simple calculation shows that Google is home to at least one computer that is bigger than the second biggest computer on the world rankings, but keeps the size of its computers a closely guarded secret.
Elon Musk is listed as the world’s richest man on the rich list. Bah. Tesla is only a very small part of the car market. And SpaceX has been a major money sink up until now, not a money earner. Biggest car manufacturer is SAIC in China isn’t it?
Some people must be raking in huge amounts of money from oil. Particularly in the USA since 2011 and Saudi Arabia since 2003. The Emirates are small players by comparison.
Hedge funds are such vast reservoirs of wealth that they controlled the Australian currency exchange rate for about six months.
Military funding is a big source of income. Particularly for weapons manufacturers and brokers.
Then there are people who operate on the boundary between legal and illegal enterprises. The declared wealth may be only a small part of the real wealth.
And out and out criminals.
