TIL – the smallest country in Africa is Seychelles.
Which I always thought of as being a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, about 1500km east of Kenya. The sea between them is 5000m deep in places.
I fear that I must dispute that Seychelles is part of Africa.
If Madagascar is then Seychelles are, and visa versa. A lot of people won’t accept that Madagascar is part of Africa, so it’s fine to reject the Seychelles.
The French have a couple of islands nearby – Mayotte and Reunion.
On a Covid note, the Seychelles had the dubious distinction of being the first country with both a near 100% first vaccination rate and very high percentages of Covid cases and Covid deaths.
When you include the Exclusive Economic Zone, the Seychelles is not small at all, instead being larger than more than fifteen African countries. The Seychelles EEZ has an area of 1,350,000 square kilometers. The Gambia, by way of contrast only has an area of 11,300 square kilometers.
If you don’t count the Seychelles as the smallest country in Africa, then what is?
