At last it has stopped playing in the sandpit and has climbed to the top of a nearby valley, to where it has a view of Mt Sharp.

And it’s only taken it ten years.

For more recent stuff from Curiosity, see the blog. https://mars.nasa.gov/msl/mission-updates/?month=4&year=2023

While the top of Mt. Sharp still looms above Curiosity, the team was very excited to see that in the last drive the rover successfully reached the top of the canyon that it has been climbing for the past few weeks. After the previous drive fell short of the top of the canyon in marker band valley, in the most recent plan Curiosity rose above the challenge of this terrain to reach the plateau above the canyon. And what a view!

I remember when it landed, I followed the landing for the last 4 hours.
I thought at the time that they will never pull this off, but hey they did.
A great moment https://www.google.com/search?q=curisoty+landing&oq=curisoty+landing&aqs=edge..69i57j0i13i512l7j0i13i30.7561j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:d74014e1,vid:N9hXqzkH7YA

Curiosity’s entire track since landing. Mt Sharp summit is lower right

The entire track. The sand pits are either side of Vera Rubin ridge. Starting the climb up the Canyon.

The climb up the canyon, 2 km or so. Markers are daily locations.

Impressive average speed of 0.0003 km/hr. The total 30 km for Curiosity is still short of that for Lunokhod 2, which traversed 37 km.
