Subject: Friday Pictorial: Battersea Power Station Control Rooms

Some atmospheric portraits of the control rooms of the Battersea Power Station, during use, and before and after restoration.

This much-loved example of art deco industry was built over several decades:

>The building comprises two power stations, built in two stages, in a single building. Battersea A Power Station was built between 1929 and 1935 and Battersea B Power Station, to its east, between 1937 and 1941, when construction was paused owing to the worsening effects of the Second World War. The building was completed in 1955. “Battersea B” was built to a design nearly identical to that of “Battersea A”, creating the iconic four-chimney structure.

Finally decommissioned in 1983, the building remained empty until 2014, when it was developed into residential units, bars, restaurants etc.

Control Room A was restored as a museum piece. This selection includes a couple shots of the bar/restaurant in Control Room B.

Great pics, thanks Mr Car.

That’s a Dr Who movie location for sure. There’s probably a sleeping 12 legged alien dinosaur under the floor waiting for someone to push the right buttons in the correct sequence so that it can awaken and wreak terrible vengeance on humanity until someone with a screwdriver turns up and re-adjusts the voltage.

Portions of it have appeared in three Doctor Who stories: The War Machines, Dalek Invasion of Earth, and Rise of The Cybermen/Age of Steel.
