I finally got around to having my car engine Dyno tuned.
1.6 litres, 4 cylinder, petrol.
Compression 135 135 140 135

Before tuning
Power 56.7, Torque 98.3
After tuning
Power 66.8, Torque 114.8

So far so good, but my car has felt underpowered from when I bought it new.
And original specs in the user manual say (all measurements in metric)
Power 93, Torque 160

The car hasn’t lost much power since I bought it.

So is there a law against giving totally wrong performance figures when you sell a new car?

Yes.

In fact there are laws against giving false or misleading information in any commercial transaction.

Car is supposed to have a compression ratio of 11:1 which is a compression of 160 rather than 135 to 140. Could that be part of the problem? Or is that normal.

It may well be, but your car is probably quite normal as the engine power from the manual is from the engine, from a dyno it’s from the wheels and it’s quite normal for a good 25% of the power to disappear between the engine and the road.

Nope, there’s not a great deal of correlation with CR & cranking psi.
For example the engine in my racing car (a Suzuki G13 1.3 litre engine) has about 10.5:1 compression and because of some of the tricks I know I get at least 230 psi when tested.

Most definitely.

That’s about 9.2:1 compression ratio, indicating considerable leak-down.

Sounds like it needs an Italian tune-up.

did they take it up to the max RPM same as for test in specificififications

25%.

Ta, that’s the number I was looking for.

A lot more than I expected.

It’s just one of the many inefficient systems that regular cars have compared to EV’s.

I don’t think it is necessary on this forum to denote threads as non-sci. Any new thread should just be on a topic of interest.

consider all that’s wasted in heating (i’ll ignore the engine itself for a moment) your clutch , transmission, and differential, makes walking seem efficient

some goes to wearing the rubber off your tyres too

what a waste
