that wyandotte champion looks perfect – she’s like my mumchook but not as skinny.

you need a few more beans and where’s the corn?

i can see that Aframe you talk about. it would be hard to pull around wouldn’t it?

your grass is very green – has it rained all year?

Yep need to sow some more seed, Corn in is the empty bed behind the tomatoes. Me and dad can lift it via hand or I just use some Chain and the skidsteer (lift it up).
Been raining as we speak.

Tomato bed right hand side is a Cherry tomato. Got a diggers tomato (forget its name). A frame behind has some Culls (unwanted cockerels) for usage in the House.

those cans of toms are usually 400 gms – so you have just harvested 3 cans.

Hi Pepe, I’m thinking of tomatoes, capsicums, eggplant and associated herbs…am going to try for sprouts seeds as well, I see the packet I have has mung, broccoli (or is the brussels sprouts) and alfalfa (I think that’s the mix)…

In this weather I could probably grow lettuce in the full sun, there is so much clod about…

See the stable in the Left hand side of photo, then alot of trees near it and then another fenced off area, thats where the Main chook pen is, they have access to the small paddock 24/7, Bees are located in the tree area.

How do I go about Pruning Guava trees?

What do you want the tree to do?

Give us some more fruit, it has chook poo, Mulch, gets water once a week, and we don’t get anything/ the odd guava off it. Go to grandparents same treatment and there is loaded.

Weird. Mine (Strawberry guava) is utterly neglected, in crappy sand, and makes heaps of fruit..

Having now seen the photo of Veg’s – massively different. Mine is a tiny little shrub, his is a great big tree. Maybe mine fruits a lot because it feels it’s close to death, and thus should reproduce?? :)

you walk a fair way over to that chook area and back.

i’m not a good pruner but most trees need the centre opened out and the top leaders trimmed to a managable height.

Good luck with it veg. Parrots can be a pest with the tomatoes. I have the same problem.

YOu’d think so…4 × 4 = 16 square metre area

1.5 × 3 = 4.5 square metre area

However, is the netting a different shape to the garden bed?

I guess it depends how high the netting is propped up? I.e. on the long (3m) side, you only have 0.5m at either end for height.. is that what you meant, Veg?

Depends on age, I can get them cheap and sell them for a bit more. I’ve seen 8week old keets selling for $15 each. I ask for about 25 for females and 20 for males when they are nearly adults.
I got 9 from the auction late last year for $7 each. I want to make a Profit including how much i feed while buying from the auctions.

I haven’t priced them lately, keep missing my chance as the best time to buy them here is just before or after Christmas…if they are 8 weeks they are easier to “home” than when they are nearly mature, as they need to get used to the dawg and the horses and the cats, and vice versa… $15 would be about right, they were $7.50 per 8 weeks keet about 8 years ago…

If it’s not a rude question, just for information’s sake, roughly how much can you ask per Keet?

I’d quite like a couple if we ever get our acreage. My sister has them and they’re very independant birds. Roosting in trees is a bonus too, keeps them away from predators.

Not of their keets from what my sister tells me. They’ll just stand there with a puzzled look while the kookas take them one after another. A chook would have them herded under her.

They’re very instinctive a lot of the time but other times I don’t know what they are thinking of…if anything…interesting about the kookas stealing the keets…I guess butcherbirds are just as opportunistic?

have you tried using a trip calculator?

I like this one (although it doesn’t work on the phantasztic phone, great for computer use)

I was bored at work today (they’ve advertised for someone to fill the vacant job, once that’s filled I’ll be snowed under again, lol!) and decided it was a 3-day trip to Townsville from here with just one driver so I won’t be ducking up to visit PM for a weekend soon :P

OK, the trip to Armidale was not so solid, it included a 5 hour (I think) sleepover at the McCafferty’s depot in Toowoomba…I used to sleep on the bench like a dero…when you factor that in it’s a “solid” trip…and it’s the bus what’s more, they take longer than private cars…

They can be very noisy, but not all the time…they sound like they’re conversing…you can eat them, some cultures think they are a delicacy (game bird) and the eggs are supposed to be fantastic for baking…if you ever find them…they do tend to wander but always come home at night…

Guinea fowl listed on there are right near us. I am not tempted. I am not tempted. I am not tempted. Only $8 too. I am not tempted.

I thought of you…they really are easy care once you get them past the chicken stage, and once you know they are “homed”…or did you already know that? They might even keep those weeds down for you…

I have heard they are good at letting you know when a snakes around. Don’t know about keeping the grass down but they are excellent bug catchers.

I’d quite like a couple if we ever get our acreage. My sister has them and they’re very independant birds. Roosting in trees is a bonus too, keeps them away from predators.

How noisy are they? When are they noisy? Do you eat them or their eggs?

I’ve heard people say they are but I’ve never heard my sister’s. You can definately eat them, they class them as game, I think. Don’t see why you couldn’t eat the eggs.

10 keets who hatched yesterday are penned up in a broodie box, Hatched out in the paddock Long grass. (there mums still in there she normally aloud to nest where she wants to).

Not enough info.
It’s just that I picture you standing looking out over a paddock saying ‘right, I wonder if there’s any eggs today and where they might be ‘.

Do they have a roof over them for protection against other animals, eg cats ? How do you find the eggs?

No, I understand you perfectly…your pearl-coloured guinea fowl are roaming free…
Your lavender coloured guinea fowl, which you plan to sell, are penned up to keep them safe…
the mother hen has been brought in from where she nested in the paddock, and is now penned for the safety of the keets

Ok, bit more Information this time.

I know she has a couple of nest so what I do is check in the Long grass, where those nest are. No protection from the other animals Cat wont go near them at all. When I let chooks out of the chook pens they go in there and Have a feed, or I spread some grain out for them in there feed dish.

Mine never had a pen, they roosted in two trees, a cadagi gum and a Doolan tree…in the back yard…they used to roam far, tho’…sometimes met them down at the gate, 400 metres from the house…

They don’t have a pen, unless the chooks are out roaming.
