Whoa! Flu-like diseases are on the rise.

The incidence now is ten times what it was this time last year.

people aren’t using the hand wash and staying away from each other any more… I noticed the other day that someone came as close as 1m to me in a supermarket… and I was shocked and appalled.

probably courtesy the enthusiasm to immunize with live virus circulation, there’s a heightened responsibility in the idea of herd immunity

think as it went pwm might have been more relaxed with the mass injury and death, along with difficulties of avoiding the plague once more people became more relaxed about mass injury and death, anyway pwm might have been flippant or something, exhibited a lack of regard for master science’s concerns, but I can’t really speak for pwm, he may have a better angle on it, about his own angle on it

Interesting paper looking at how scary COVID is without vaccination, in the population under 70 years of age, with time and hindsight now becoming available. Turns out probably not as scary as thought.

“Age-stratified infection fatality rate of COVID-19 in the non-elderly population”

From the paper:

Highlights

∗ Across 31 systematically identified national seroprevalence studies in the pre-vaccination era, the median infection fatality rate of COVID-19 was estimated to be 0.034% for people aged 0–59 years people and 0.095% for those aged 0–69 years.

*The median IFR was 0.0003% at 0–19 years, 0.002% at 20–29 years, 0.011% at 30–39 years, 0.035% at 40–49 years, 0.123% at 50–59 years, and 0.506% at 60–69 years.

*At a global level, pre-vaccination IFR may have been as low as 0.03% and 0.07% for 0–59 and 0–69 year old people, respectively.

∗ These IFR estimates in non-elderly populations are lower than previous calculations had suggested.
