The annual whale migration is in full swing here just north of Sydney. They call it the ‘Humpback Highway’.

Nice.
But those buoys? Are they for shark nets?

The orange buoys mark lobster pots. They collect them late in the afternoon.

Ah.
Nice!
They are really big animals. I suppose they’ll be coming by here soon. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.

And strike fear into the heart of the Captain of the Bark Kathleen.
Hey man, great photos.
Humpbacks have made a great comeback.
Have you seen or heard of dolphins in the harbours around Sydney yet?
I’ve seen them recently in the harbours of Perth, south of Perth, north and south coast NSW, and have been told that there is a resident population of dolphins in Port Phillip Bay.
What about the harbours of Lake Illawarra, Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour, … up to Newcastle?
Any sign of dolphins returning to these once polluted waterways?

I have seen a small pod of dolphins in Botany Bay, about 1994.

I don’t know about the harbours, but we certainly see plenty of dolphins in the ocean and playing in the surf.
