Chinese defence minister says clash with US would be ‘unbearable disaster’ for the world

China’s Minister of National Defence General Li Shangfu tells Asia’s top security summit that his country seeks dialogue over confrontation with the US, despite refusing American demands for military-to-military talks.

>Well and good mate but just like your mate Putin, who is doing all the posturing?

its doubtful china is going to do anything, america has to collapse first.

china is most likely helping russia in the ukraine conflict. probably got a factory somewhere pumping out artillery pieces and shells – millions of them. shipped out of china by rail.

china doesn’t directly go to war unless absolutely necessary or the enemy is essentially defenseless eg tibet, hong kong because they tend to get their arses kicked against armed foes, they don’t want to take the casualties.

taiwan is armed to the teeth , a sea borne invasion or naval blockade (an act of war itself that invites military intervention) would cause significant casualties on the chinese side.

china could invade or blockade but it always comes with risk.

Agree with most of that.

A sea-borne invasion is not something that’s done quickly or without massive preparations, which would be hard to entirely conceal, thus giving some warning of intent.

An invasion of Taiwan (Formosa, as it was then known) was, for a long time, part of the Allied plans for the Pacific in WW2. The idea was abandoned because it was judged that it would be fighting for a large island of questionable value with an undoubtedly high cost in Allied (mostly American) lives. Yes, i know that they invaded the Philippines, but that was more about MacArthur than the war. The Philippines could have just as well been bypassed.

The Chinese have no experience at sea-borne invasions. It would be an all-or-nothing gamble for them. Airborne invasions have never been decisive on their own, the roops are too few in number, too lightly armed, and to difficult to support and resupply.

If the Chinese tried a sea-borne invasion they might find themselves up against more than just the Taiwanese. Defence agreements with regional countries could be force multipliers. Japan has always had a soft spot or Taiwan, and their excellent Soryu-class, Taigei-class, and even their Oyashio-class submarines could wreak havoc amongst the Chinese fleet.

A lot depends on whether Xi Jin Ping has any desire to leave a ‘legacy’, like his friend Putin.

I just can’t see it happening, it is not possible. China is a lot less of a superpower than we might think. Sure they have have a big manufacturing sector, but they import the raw materials and energy, and they export most of their finished goods. The export markets are predominately the wealthy west (North America and Europe) and the large east Asian democracies (Japan, SK). Plus they need to import a lot of their food. If they hit with sanctions in energy and raw materials imports, plus sanctions or consumer boycotts of Chinese export goods their economy will grind to a halt and collapse within months. Their domestic market is way too poor to consume all of their own output.

Taiwan is a longway ahead of China in semiconductor design and manufacture and China is heavily dependent upon their high technical semiconductors to run a considerable portion of their manufacturing industries, thus interruption to this supply would cripple China’s manufacturing capacity in very short order.

>>The industry is based on the foundry model, which consists of semiconductor fabrication plants (foundries) and integrated circuit design operations, each belonging to separate companies or subsidiaries. Some companies, known as integrated device manufacturers, both design and manufacture semiconductors. The foundry model has resulted in consolidation among foundries. As of 2021, only three firms are able to manufacture the most advanced semiconductors: TSMC of Taiwan, Samsung of South Korea, and Intel of the United States. Part of this is due to the high capital costs of building foundries. TSMC’s latest factory, capable of fabricating 3 nm process semiconductors and completed in 2020, cost $19.5 billion.<< Wiki

Capitalism only works with competition. If you want to make huge profits in a capitalist society, get into a monopoly business, or one with few competitors. Privatised natural monopolies are just the thing.

Find an interesting that the two countries building rail infrastructure in Africa are China and France.

Japan is also building quite a bit in the Indian subcontinent. They have a high speed rail project underwater in India and have opened the first phase of the Dhaka Metro Rail service.

Two US Navy sailors have been arrested and accused of providing sensitive military information to China — including details on wartime exercises, naval operations and critical technical material, federal officials say. As The Associated Press reports, officials at a news conference in San Diego declined to specify whether the sailors were aware of each other’s actions. But they did say cases exemplify China’s brazenness in trying to obtain insight into US military operations.

“Through the alleged crimes committed by these defendants, sensitive military information ended up in the hands of the People’s Republic of China,” US Attorney Randy Grossman says.

The arrested sailors are Jinchao Wei, a 22-year-old born in China, who was allegedly approached by a Chinese intelligence officer while he was applying to become a naturalised US citizen. The other is sailor Wenheng Zhao, 26, who officials allege conspired to collect bribes from a Chinese intelligence officer in exchange for US naval exercise plans, operational orders and photos and videos of electrical systems.

I used to find it annoying when people said that recognition and support were “humbling”, but then I heard Amanda Vanstone venting about it, so these days I think it’s just fine.

(but I still don’t see what is “humbling” about it).

It’s just silliness. A little thought would tell them that’s it’s actually insulting to tell people that their support has a humbling effect.

In the old days people would say “I am honoured”, which means the opposite and which is what they really meant to say.

this is a new byd han which is a fully electric mid-size luxury sedan from the Chinese automaker byd you can’t buy this car in America right now and you won’t be able to in the future either which is a bit of a shame because we’re missing out on some truly amazing quirks and features so you’re interested in Chinese EVS perhaps you’ve seen the flashy adverts all the new brands coming out of China all the advanced technology and development that they seem to possess perhaps you’ve seen some big name reviewers looking at the latest byd models or Neo or whatever the case may be fawning over the features well this is a video that will tell you that it’s a bunch of BS so China is ahead of the game when it comes to EVS in many ways one of those ways is that China’s ahead of the game when it comes to EVS catching on fire and spontaneously combusting and their reasons for this quality controls kind of Lacks shortcuts are taken but let’s talk about the good before we get into the bad because we’re going to be looking at a lot of Clips here of Chinese EVS catching on fire doing dangerous things and well by the end of this you probably realize that there’s still a very long way to go before a Chinese EV can be trusted at all even the best and biggest brands like this byd Burning to the ground behind me here but before we get into all the explosive action a word from our sponsor hitting the roads in a car is like entering a battlefield you never know when the unpredictable may happen a drunk driver someone distracted by their phone or even just someone who shouldn’t be behind monthly subscription link is in the description and now back to the show so I thought we’d start with the big boys byd or BRD as it is pronounced in Chinese and byd is one of the biggest automakers in China and probably the most well-known in fact Warren Buffett himself back to this company and everybody sees it as the flagship when it comes to Chinese authors especially EVS so I’ve put together a compilation of byd only clips that we’re going to take a look at together over here so this was not that long ago in Shenzhen a new byd model burning to the ground while charging and of course you can see just how much effort it takes to put out an EV fire you see without getting too complicated when you drive around in your internal combustion engine car you’re carrying your fuel with you of course the petrol but that’s only half of your energy source the other half is the air which gets mixed with it together to create the combustion it’s all science but basically you’re only actually carrying half of the energy in your car in fuel and it takes quite a lot to ignite that it needs a proper spark you actually need to go in and set fire to the fuel when it comes to electric cars you’re carrying all of the energy in the battery pack like everything you’re not mixing anything else from the outside into it so you’re carrying this immense amount of energy around with you and there are various things that can cause it to erupt obviously if it gets punctured uh if you’re in an accident there’s a serious risk of it going off as we’ve seen a number of times in the past but of course any kind of electrical short in the system can cause this thing to go bad and this is why electric vehicles are more prone to catching on fire than an irregular internal combustion engine but on top of that the way that the energy gets released is really scary when you’ve got one of these big battery packs that catch on fire that get punctured Etc anyway let’s take a look at a couple of byd Clips here foreign energy car has caught on fire it’s so unsafe anyway that’s also a byd model down there anyway she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode so she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode there but this is not an uncommon sight in and around China now I did a lot of work when it came to electric bikes and I used to mess around with e-bikes and scooters and those things catch fire all the time too and that’s because it’s impossible to really regulate that industry when it comes to electric bikes there’s so many knockoffs and random brands that are made in tiny little factories all over the place that regulations just well they don’t exist so they can do anything they want to take shortcuts when it comes to the battery production or the circuit boards or whatever so you get a lot of these things catching on fire just outright exploding melting down and there are fire hazard they really are so much so that you’re not allowed to take electric vehicles even the small little foldable bikes onto the public transport in China anymore in the big cities and it’s just one of those things foreign but when it comes to the electric vehicles as you can see this one burning down behind me it’s really more of the same thing right now there’s a rush to create EVS in China and so you’ve got all these different brands coming out of the woodwork and these up start companies that are busy getting investment from overseas and investment from just about everywhere to create the next biggest EV and well you can understand that a lot of shortcuts are being taken and the result of course is what you see on the screen behind us but this is byd this is the particular model that you’ve just seen burned down and here is one of their Flagship SUVs that was on the back of a truck busy being taken somewhere and uh you know you can see it just catching on fire if you take a close look you can actually see the Sparks emanating from underneath the vehicle and this is of course terrifying because there’s really very little you can do with these massive electric fires just pouring water on it doesn’t do anything and I’m sure you’ll notice that whenever you see firefighters trying to put out an electric vehicle fire it takes a huge amount of uh water and whatever else to actually put these things out and Manpower so it’s not a normal thing and you’ll see just how devastating this can be in some of these clips so yes this is a top of the line Flagship SUV from byd I’ll actually put up the model on the screen so you can see which one it is and you’ll see that this is quite a common one to catch on fire actually because I’ve got multiple clips that show this exact same model catching on fire oh hey over here again another byd SUV that’s catching on fire and of course there you have the fire department trying to put it out and keep it safe and this as you saw in the intro is the byd Han which has been handed out to a lot of very high profile car reviewers around the world and here you can see it catching on fire on the streets of China how about we move on to another model of byd here that you can see burning in the background I think you can uh pick up a little bit of a trend here is that these things do combust and this again is the top brand this is the best EV brand coming out of China that’s got the biggest and longest history because byd has been around for a very long time in fact when I got to China back in 2006 I saw lots of byds driving around but they all look like BMWs or at least the logo did because byd stole its original logo from BMW and even the name byd is kind of a knockoff of BMW but that was byd back in the day of course it has evolved and gotten better over time so what I’m saying is byd is one of China’s most prestigious brands with the longest history with the most amount of quality control with the most amount of resources and r d and factories and testing and all that kind of stuff and you still see their brand new flagship EVS Catching Fire all over China and it does beg the question all these reviewers these big name reviewers that review all these cars why have none of them mentioned this fact this very simple fact that bydevs catch fire and burn down all the time in China and here’s the thing let’s take a look at this next clip over here not only do the cars themselves catch fire but they also are a massive Hazard because if they park next to anything like for instance this building they catch the building on fire there was a a small shop just right in front of where this uh byd was parked this is another byd that caught fire and it actually set the shop on fire and the whole sort of first floor started to catch on fire and burn there it’s really putting people’s lives at risk not just the cars and any potential passengers or drivers inside of the cars I mean this is some serious stuff and it took hours to put this out because like I’ve said earlier electrical fires just are almost impossible to put out with conventional means I mean look at all the fire extinguishers they’re using here and the Flames just keep on going uh it’s it’s a nightmare it’s an absolute nightmare foreign commentary on what’s going on here the guy’s shouting quickly the electrical wires and now the air conditioner put it out oh look it’s still burning put it out oh no that kind of thing and you can see the chaos this thing just won’t go out and I wanted to point out that this is another one of those tongue SUVs you know the flagship SUV the 2022 model that we saw burning on the back of that trailer same car foreign here again we have the lovely byd Han and we see it Catching Fire on the highway awesome doesn’t only stop with passenger vehicles or the byd buses themselves they’re not immune to catching on fire as you can see here and you know this is very scary because this is the public transport they’re always crammed with people on the streets and I’d like to before we get into the fact that we’ve got their latest prototype over here from byd catching on fire too I would like to talk about the whole public transport stuff because you know that’s one of the things that I I must commend China with is the fact that they really do Implement things in a big way when they decide to do something they do it but the unfortunate thing is that when you just go ahead and do something you very often overlook the reason why it shouldn’t have just done it in the first place let me give you this example okay they decided that they wanted to roll out um electric vehicles in the cities and the city that I lived in for 14 years Shenzhen they decided to go fully electric as far as their buses and taxi fleets were concerned and so they did in certain areas anyway like the downtown areas and they just rolled them out they rolled out the byd taxis I’ve actually got footage of myself driving in these things over a decade ago and they rolled out the buses but of course there were issues people did die these things did catch on fire but like all bad news in China this stuff doesn’t really get out there it gets suppressed I mean take a look you’re looking at a uh a train fire a high-speed rail fire you haven’t heard about that have you all you ever hear about uh trains in China is how amazing they are and how the infrastructure is second to none and incredible you don’t hear about the accidents and the fires and things like that because it’s suppressed the local press doesn’t even talk about it and certainly it’s not allowed to hit International press which is uh again why all you see about Chinese EVS is flashy good cool stuff but you never hear about these fires so back to their latest prototype here Catching Fire I mean come on guys this is the newest and greatest and latest thing coming out of byd and they can’t even stop that Catching Fire there’s definitely an issue here when it comes to quality control and safety speaking of quality control and safety this is a very important clip over here here we have a multi-car pileup we’ve got a Tesla you know the SUV one of the Gullwing doors we’ve got an older Mercedes Benz and we have a byd SUV fairly new model in fact that is I think their Flagship model over there now there’s something important to note here all three cars had front impact damage severe damage I mean you can see the damage of the cars here but if you look closely the Tesla and of course the Mercedes-Benz the airbags all deployed okay there you can see the airbag and the Mercedes here you can see the multiple airbags all over the um the Tesla over here it sure does have a lot of airbags um but let’s take a look at the byd in the background there remember this is not an old car you can see you can actually see the steering wheel uh according to the person who shot this video none of the airbags in the byd deployed and look the whole front end of the thing is missing so that’s worrying and that’s the unfortunate truth when it comes to Chinese cars is that as fancy as they look and as fancy as they might seem with all their features and quirks and so on they still lack when it comes to Quality I mean I should know I owned a Chinese car for about 10 years I bought it brand new and that thing was rubbish a brand new car and things that shouldn’t break on a car broke on that car during you know the first year I owned it the aircon compressor stopped working a brand new vehicle rubber that shouldn’t perish and normally takes 10 20 years before you get problems with it started to perish after two years you know things like hoses and stuff lots of problems with that car but that’s another story and I’ve told it before uh the fact of the matter is though that’s scary no airbags deployed after an accident like that in the byd and yet the other vehicles they’re fine how about this clip this byd again it’s a byd I know I’m picking on byd but we’ll get to the other brands don’t worry um the door just fell off that’s great great but now uh here’s another thing what is the one thing that you probably don’t want to go wrong when you’re driving a vehicle you probably don’t want their wheels to fall off in fact the whole rear axle to fall off with the wheels that’s probably not what you’re looking for in a car and this again is one of byd’s new crossovers it’s kind of their entry level crossover SUV thing but it’s a new model and driving down the road and the wheels just come off not good that’s a quirk and feature that I could do without I thought we’d round off the byd stuff with this clip which I think is uh again very self-explanatory let’s take a look I’ll just quickly tell you what the subtitles say there’s this BRD so it means like a couple of months old byd shots which basically means the the brakes suddenly failed okay so this has got uh 7 300 kilometers on it so it’s a very new car is basically uh what we’re saying here I don’t know what that is in Miles I’ll put it up on the screen but um let’s take a look yeah no you can’t turn it on your top okay he can’t open the trunk he can’t disengage the parking brake he’s basically screwed he’s basically screwed so the thing just broke down on the side of the road his couple of months old byd again this is that Flagship Han vehicle byd Han well you know it’s supposed to be really cool and uh everything’s kind of broken he can’t turn it on he can’t disengage the brake he can’t open the trunk I mean this is the quality control that we’re looking at here so let’s give byd a break here I know that we’ve got to move on to some other brands so here we have a Southeast DX7 South East is another fairly Big Brand in China and that’s their crossover model over there just catching on fire on the side of the road over here we have something called a weltmeister again there’s so many EV companies starting up and a lot of them are in conglomeration with other big Automotive brands in China it’s a big rush for investment but again you know these things just catching on fire uh while charging or just parked it’s really scary here we have another one of those weird startups it’s called a leap motor this one of course again self-combusted in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got the fire trucks there trying to put it out I mean I think you’re starting to see a pattern here a lot of these things are burning to the ground and it’s not just an isolated case here or there this is something that’s happening a lot okay those were some interesting startups you’ve probably never heard of but what about China’s most premium brand I’m talking about the Rolls-Royce of China the one that Xi Jinping uses the car that you always see him standing in there you know there’s microphones driving around and you know waving listlessly at the troops well you know the Hong Chi is what it’s called and they’ve got a premium SUV which is a knockoff of a Rolls-Royce let’s take a look at how that one does well not that much better here you can see it uh caught fire while charging and this is like I said the Rolls-Royce of Chinese EVS it’s the best of the best and not even they are immune that’s uh yeah that’s quite devastating over there so what can we take away from this video other than the fact that you don’t want to pile your family into a Chinese Eevee for a long road trip well I’d like you to take away the following Stop Believing the hype China keeps putting out this slick propaganda about how they’ve got these really Advanced Technologies how the Chinese green technologies out there and the windmills and the solar panels and the electric vehicles it’s all a smoke screen and a bunch of BS China right now is investing more money in massive coal burning power plants and technologies that actually pollute the world more than do any good so as much as they have this big Green Tech smoke screen it is really just all smoke and mirrors this is the kind of thing that we discuss and I’ll show every week and I’d love for you to join me there it’s called the China show and this is where we keep you up to date on the latest things coming in and out of China keep you up to date with the news keep you up to date with the things that are happening on the Chinese internet the fun stuff the terrible stuff everything in between hope to see you there this Friday hope to see you there every Friday and also don’t forget that I have a secret show every Monday which you can find in the links below guys until next time unlike Chinese EVS which still have a very long way to go before they catch up to the rest of the world stay awesome now foreigners become Chinese CCP shills or Famous by starting by eating Chinese spicy food the spicy chicken feet to genocide denial right super spicy that’s that’s a I cringe out when I see this yeah me too it’s so fake oh my God isn’t it I want to die is it a cringe right underneath Tibet in a nutshell it’s like flag raising ceremony and Tiananmen Square Beijing xinjiang dancing happy uyghurs oh geez she’s making me sick anyway let’s take a look at what I can’t watch his well it actually makes me uncomfortable just come on dude seriously full of they started with chili spicy food and you end up a chill

As the presenter says, a lot of it will be due to cutting corners.

It’s a characteristic of Chinese manufacturing. The usual series of events is:

1. Produce a good quality, reliable product. This run of product is used to establish the product name, especially among senior CCP figures and local Party bigwigs, who are often presented with examples, so as to gain their ‘approval’ and to ingratiate the company with the Party (if you can get hold of something out of this run, you’ll probably have a very good item.)

2. Produce a run of product which has some substitutions in it. Did the first run have metal gear wheels? Then the next run will have plastic gear wheels. Did it have heavy-duty power cable wiring? Then we’ll use lighter-duty cabling for this run. We can make a bit more money like that.

3. This is where the cost-cutting gets serious. Later runs have all sorts of substitutions and deletions, in the name of maximising profits. Can we cut back on the insulation used? Fine, do it. Some bloke has a supply of cheaper motors available? OK, they’re not as reliable as the current ones, but hey, they’re cheaper! Tell him we’ll take 50,000.

And this happens everywhere, all the time, in a pretty much inevitable manner.

not just the cars and any potential passengers or drivers inside of the cars I mean this is some serious stuff and it took hours to put this out because like I’ve said earlier electrical fires just are almost impossible to put out with conventional means I mean look at all the fire extinguishers they’re using here and the Flames just keep on going uh it’s it’s a nightmare it’s an absolute nightmare foreign commentary on what’s going on here the guy’s shouting quickly the electrical wires and now the air conditioner put it out oh look it’s still burning put it out oh no that kind of thing and you can see the chaos this thing just won’t go out and I wanted to point out that this is another one of those tongue SUVs you know the flagship SUV the 2022 model that we saw burning on the back of that trailer same car foreign here again we have the lovely byd Han and we see it Catching Fire on the highway awesome doesn’t only stop with passenger vehicles or the byd buses themselves they’re not immune to catching on fire as you can see here and you know this is very scary because this is the public transport they’re always crammed with people on the streets and I’d like to before we get into the fact that we’ve got their latest prototype over here from byd catching on fire too I would like to talk about the whole public transport stuff because you know that’s one of the things that I I must commend China with is the fact that they really do Implement things in a big way when they decide to do something they do it but the unfortunate thing is that when you just go ahead and do something you very often overlook the reason why it shouldn’t have just done it in the first place let me give you this example okay they decided that they wanted to roll out um electric vehicles in the cities and the city that I lived in for 14 years Shenzhen they decided to go fully electric as far as their buses and taxi fleets were concerned and so they did in certain areas anyway like the downtown areas and they just rolled them out they rolled out the byd taxis I’ve actually got footage of myself driving in these things over a decade ago and they rolled out the buses but of course there were issues people did die these things did catch on fire but like all bad news in China this stuff doesn’t really get out there it gets suppressed I mean take a look you’re looking at a uh a train fire a high-speed rail fire you haven’t heard about that have you all you ever hear about uh trains in China is how amazing they are and how the infrastructure is second to none and incredible you don’t hear about the accidents and the fires and things like that because it’s suppressed the local press doesn’t even talk about it and certainly it’s not allowed to hit International press which is uh again why all you see about Chinese EVS is flashy good cool stuff but you never hear about these fires so back to their latest prototype here Catching Fire I mean come on guys this is the newest and greatest and latest thing coming out of byd and they can’t even stop that Catching Fire there’s definitely an issue here when it comes to quality control and safety speaking of quality control and safety this is a very important clip over here here we have a multi-car pileup we’ve got a Tesla you know the SUV one of the Gullwing doors we’ve got an older Mercedes Benz and we have a byd SUV fairly new model in fact that is I think their Flagship model over there now there’s something important to note here all three cars had front impact damage severe damage I mean you can see the damage of the cars here but if you look closely the Tesla and of course the Mercedes-Benz the airbags all deployed okay there you can see the airbag and the Mercedes here you can see the multiple airbags all over the um the Tesla over here it sure does have a lot of airbags um but let’s take a look at the byd in the background there remember this is not an old car you can see you can actually see the steering wheel uh according to the person who shot this video none of the airbags in the byd deployed and look the whole front end of the thing is missing so that’s worrying and that’s the unfortunate truth when it comes to Chinese cars is that as fancy as they look and as fancy as they might seem with all their features and quirks and so on they still lack when it comes to Quality I mean I should know I owned a Chinese car for about 10 years I bought it brand new and that thing was rubbish a brand new car and things that shouldn’t break on a car broke on that car during you know the first year I owned it the aircon compressor stopped working a brand new vehicle rubber that shouldn’t perish and normally takes 10 20 years before you get problems with it started to perish after two years you know things like hoses and stuff lots of problems with that car but that’s another story and I’ve told it before uh the fact of the matter is though that’s scary no airbags deployed after an accident like that in the byd and yet the other vehicles they’re fine how about this clip this byd again it’s a byd I know I’m picking on byd but we’ll get to the other brands don’t worry um the door just fell off that’s great great but now uh here’s another thing what is the one thing that you probably don’t want to go wrong when you’re driving a vehicle you probably don’t want their wheels to fall off in fact the whole rear axle to fall off with the wheels that’s probably not what you’re looking for in a car and this again is one of byd’s new crossovers it’s kind of their entry level crossover SUV thing but it’s a new model and driving down the road and the wheels just come off not good that’s a quirk and feature that I could do without I thought we’d round off the byd stuff with this clip which I think is uh again very self-explanatory let’s take a look I’ll just quickly tell you what the subtitles say there’s this BRD so it means like a couple of months old byd shots which basically means the the brakes suddenly failed okay so this has got uh 7 300 kilometers on it so it’s a very new car is basically uh what we’re saying here I don’t know what that is in Miles I’ll put it up on the screen but um let’s take a look yeah no you can’t turn it on your top okay he can’t open the trunk he can’t disengage the parking brake he’s basically screwed he’s basically screwed so the thing just broke down on the side of the road his couple of months old byd again this is that Flagship Han vehicle byd Han well you know it’s supposed to be really cool and uh everything’s kind of broken he can’t turn it on he can’t disengage the brake he can’t open the trunk I mean this is the quality control that we’re looking at here so let’s give byd a break here I know that we’ve got to move on to some other brands so here we have a Southeast DX7 South East is another fairly Big Brand in China and that’s their crossover model over there just catching on fire on the side of the road over here we have something called a weltmeister again there’s so many EV companies starting up and a lot of them are in conglomeration with other big Automotive brands in China it’s a big rush for investment but again you know these things just catching on fire uh while charging or just parked it’s really scary here we have another one of those weird startups it’s called a leap motor this one of course again self-combusted in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got the fire trucks there trying to put it out I mean I think you’re starting to see a pattern here a lot of these things are burning to the ground and it’s not just an isolated case here or there this is something that’s happening a lot okay those were some interesting startups you’ve probably never heard of but what about China’s most premium brand I’m talking about the Rolls-Royce of China the one that Xi Jinping uses the car that you always see him standing in there you know there’s microphones driving around and you know waving listlessly at the troops well you know the Hong Chi is what it’s called and they’ve got a premium SUV which is a knockoff of a Rolls-Royce let’s take a look at how that one does well not that much better here you can see it uh caught fire while charging and this is like I said the Rolls-Royce of Chinese EVS it’s the best of the best and not even they are immune that’s uh yeah that’s quite devastating over there so what can we take away from this video other than the fact that you don’t want to pile your family into a Chinese Eevee for a long road trip well I’d like you to take away the following Stop Believing the hype China keeps putting out this slick propaganda about how they’ve got these really Advanced Technologies how the Chinese green technologies out there and the windmills and the solar panels and the electric vehicles it’s all a smoke screen and a bunch of BS China right now is investing more money in massive coal burning power plants and technologies that actually pollute the world more than do any good so as much as they have this big Green Tech smoke screen it is really just all smoke and mirrors this is the kind of thing that we discuss and I’ll show every week and I’d love for you to join me there it’s called the China show and this is where we keep you up to date on the latest things coming in and out of China keep you up to date with the news keep you up to date with the things that are happening on the Chinese internet the fun stuff the terrible stuff everything in between hope to see you there this Friday hope to see you there every Friday and also don’t forget that I have a secret show every Monday which you can find in the links below guys until next time unlike Chinese EVS which still have a very long way to go before they catch up to the rest of the world stay awesome now foreigners become Chinese CCP shills or Famous by starting by eating Chinese spicy food the spicy chicken feet to genocide denial right super spicy that’s that’s a I cringe out when I see this yeah me too it’s so fake oh my God isn’t it I want to die is it a cringe right underneath Tibet in a nutshell it’s like flag raising ceremony and Tiananmen Square Beijing xinjiang dancing happy uyghurs oh geez she’s making me sick anyway let’s take a look at what I can’t watch his well it actually makes me uncomfortable just come on dude seriously full of they started with chili spicy food and you end up a chill

Thanks, we needed that.

this is a new byd han which is a fully electric mid-size luxury sedan from the Chinese automaker byd you can’t buy this car in America right now and you won’t be able to in the future either which is a bit of a shame because we’re missing out on some truly amazing quirks and features so you’re interested in Chinese EVS perhaps you’ve seen the flashy adverts all the new brands coming out of China all the advanced technology and development that they seem to possess perhaps you’ve seen some big name reviewers looking at the latest byd models or Neo or whatever the case may be fawning over the features well this is a video that will tell you that it’s a bunch of BS so China is ahead of the game when it comes to EVS in many ways one of those ways is that China’s ahead of the game when it comes to EVS catching on fire and spontaneously combusting and their reasons for this quality controls kind of Lacks shortcuts are taken but let’s talk about the good before we get into the bad because we’re going to be looking at a lot of Clips here of Chinese EVS catching on fire doing dangerous things and well by the end of this you probably realize that there’s still a very long way to go before a Chinese EV can be trusted at all even the best and biggest brands like this byd Burning to the ground behind me here but before we get into all the explosive action a word from our sponsor hitting the roads in a car is like entering a battlefield you never know when the unpredictable may happen a drunk driver someone distracted by their phone or even just someone who shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car to combat this we equip our cars with many safety features not just one we have seat belts crumple zones airbags abs and so much more and now it’s time to treat Internet safety in the same way and this is where today’s sponsored guardio comes in as we hit the information Super Highway we also risk running into malware hackers identity thieves scammers and malicious code guardio to pay the international transfer fees join over 1 million people who have already installed guardio today go to guard.io forward slash serpents a day and you’ll get 20 off their already affordable monthly subscription link is in the description and now back to the show so I thought we’d start with the big boys byd or BRD as it is pronounced in Chinese and byd is one of the biggest automakers in China and probably the most well-known in fact Warren Buffett himself back to this company and everybody sees it as the flagship when it comes to Chinese authors especially EVS so I’ve put together a compilation of byd only clips that we’re going to take a look at together over here so this was not that long ago in Shenzhen a new byd model burning to the ground while charging and of course you can see just how much effort it takes to put out an EV fire you see without getting too complicated when you drive around in your internal combustion engine car you’re carrying your fuel with you of course the petrol but that’s only half of your energy source the other half is the air which gets mixed with it together to create the combustion it’s all science but basically you’re only actually carrying half of the energy in your car in fuel and it takes quite a lot to ignite that it needs a proper spark you actually need to go in and set fire to the fuel when it comes to electric cars you’re carrying all of the energy in the battery pack like everything you’re not mixing anything else from the outside into it so you’re carrying this immense amount of energy around with you and there are various things that can cause it to erupt obviously if it gets punctured uh if you’re in an accident there’s a serious risk of it going off as we’ve seen a number of times in the past but of course any kind of electrical short in the system can cause this thing to go bad and this is why electric vehicles are more prone to catching on fire than an irregular internal combustion engine but on top of that the way that the energy gets released is really scary when you’ve got one of these big battery packs that catch on fire that get punctured Etc anyway let’s take a look at a couple of byd Clips here foreign energy car has caught on fire it’s so unsafe anyway that’s also a byd model down there anyway she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode so she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode there but this is not an uncommon sight in and around China now I did a lot of work when it came to electric bikes and I used to mess around with e-bikes and scooters and those things catch fire all the time too and that’s because it’s impossible to really regulate that industry when it comes to electric bikes there’s so many knockoffs and random brands that are made in tiny little factories all over the place that regulations just well they don’t exist so they can do anything they want to take shortcuts when it comes to the battery production or the circuit boards or whatever so you get a lot of these things catching on fire just outright exploding melting down and there are fire hazard they really are so much so that you’re not allowed to take electric vehicles even the small little foldable bikes onto the public transport in China anymore in the big cities and it’s just one of those things foreign but when it comes to the electric vehicles as you can see this one burning down behind me it’s really more of the same thing right now there’s a rush to create EVS in China and so you’ve got all these different brands coming out of the woodwork and these up start companies that are busy getting investment from overseas and investment from just about everywhere to create the next biggest EV and well you can understand that a lot of shortcuts are being taken and the result of course is what you see on the screen behind us but this is byd this is the particular model that you’ve just seen burned down and here is one of their Flagship SUVs that was on the back of a truck busy being taken somewhere and uh you know you can see it just catching on fire if you take a close look you can actually see the Sparks emanating from underneath the vehicle and this is of course terrifying because there’s really very little you can do with these massive electric fires just pouring water on it doesn’t do anything and I’m sure you’ll notice that whenever you see firefighters trying to put out an electric vehicle fire it takes a huge amount of uh water and whatever else to actually put these things out and Manpower so it’s not a normal thing and you’ll see just how devastating this can be in some of these clips so yes this is a top of the line Flagship SUV from byd I’ll actually put up the model on the screen so you can see which one it is and you’ll see that this is quite a common one to catch on fire actually because I’ve got multiple clips that show this exact same model catching on fire oh hey over here again another byd SUV that’s catching on fire and of course there you have the fire department trying to put it out and keep it safe and this as you saw in the intro is the byd Han which has been handed out to a lot of very high profile car reviewers around the world and here you can see it catching on fire on the streets of China how about we move on to another model of byd here that you can see burning in the background I think you can uh pick up a little bit of a trend here is that these things do combust and this again is the top brand this is the best EV brand coming out of China that’s got the biggest and longest history because byd has been around for a very long time in fact when I got to China back in 2006 I saw lots of byds driving around but they all look like BMWs or at least the logo did because byd stole its original logo from BMW and even the name byd is kind of a knockoff of BMW but that was byd back in the day of course it has evolved and gotten better over time so what I’m saying is byd is one of China’s most prestigious brands with the longest history with the most amount of quality control with the most amount of resources and r d and factories and testing and all that kind of stuff and you still see their brand new flagship EVS Catching Fire all over China and it does beg the question all these reviewers these big name reviewers that review all these cars why have none of them mentioned this fact this very simple fact that bydevs catch fire and burn down all the time in China and here’s the thing let’s take a look at this next clip over here not only do the cars themselves catch fire but they also are a massive Hazard because if they park next to anything like for instance this building they catch the building on fire there was a a small shop just right in front of where this uh byd was parked this is another byd that caught fire and it actually set the shop on fire and the whole sort of first floor started to catch on fire and burn there it’s really putting people’s lives at risk Chinese EV’s

“It’s incredibly humbling to have your support,”

I used to find it annoying when people said that recognition and support were “humbling”, but then I heard Amanda Vanstone venting about it, so these days I think it’s just fine.

(but I still don’t see what is “humbling” about it).

It’s just silliness. A little thought would tell them that’s it’s actually insulting to tell people that their support has a humbling effect.

In the old days people would say “I am honoured”, which means the opposite and which is what they really meant to say.

Thanks Mandy.

yeah I dunno, had me a thinkies about the term other day, in that sort of context, it’s an acknowledgment of interest, of involvement of others, points to responsibility and respect of, or for, indicates not taken for granted

whether it is always real, the extent of, well whatever judge whatever on the evidence

China and probably the most well-known in fact Warren Buffett himself back to this company and everybody sees it as the flagship when it comes to Chinese authors especially EVS so I’ve put together a compilation of byd only clips that we’re going to take a look at together over here so this was not that long ago in Shenzhen a new byd model burning to the ground while charging and of course you can see just how much effort it takes to put out an EV fire you see without getting too complicated when you drive around in your internal combustion engine car you’re carrying your fuel with you of course the petrol but that’s only half of your energy source the other half is the air which gets mixed with it together to create the combustion it’s all science but basically you’re only actually carrying half of the energy in your car in fuel and it takes quite a lot to ignite that it needs a proper spark you actually need to go in and set fire to the fuel when it comes to electric cars you’re carrying all of the energy in the battery pack like everything you’re not mixing anything else from the outside into it so you’re carrying this immense amount of energy around with you and there are various things that can cause it to erupt obviously if it gets punctured uh if you’re in an accident there’s a serious risk of it going off as we’ve seen a number of times in the past but of course any kind of electrical short in the system can cause this thing to go bad and this is why electric vehicles are more prone to catching on fire than an irregular internal combustion engine but on top of that the way that the energy gets released is really scary when you’ve got one of these big battery packs that catch on fire that get punctured Etc anyway let’s take a look at a couple of byd Clips here foreign energy car has caught on fire it’s so unsafe anyway that’s also a byd model down there anyway she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode so she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode there but this is not an uncommon sight in and around China now I did a lot of work when it came to electric bikes and I used to mess around with e-bikes and scooters and those things catch fire all the time too and that’s because it’s impossible to really regulate that industry when it comes to electric bikes there’s so many knockoffs and random brands that are made in tiny little factories all over the place that regulations just well they don’t exist so they can do anything they want to take shortcuts when it comes to the battery production or the circuit boards or whatever so you get a lot of these things catching on fire just outright exploding melting down and there are fire hazard they really are so much so that you’re not allowed to take electric vehicles even the small little foldable bikes onto the public transport in China anymore in the big cities and it’s just one of those things foreign but when it comes to the electric vehicles as you can see this one burning down behind me it’s really more of the same thing right now there’s a rush to create EVS in China and so you’ve got all these different brands coming out of the woodwork and these up start companies that are busy getting investment from overseas and investment from just about everywhere to create the next biggest EV and well you can understand that a lot of shortcuts are being taken and the result of course is what you see on the screen behind us but this is byd this is the particular model that you’ve just seen burned down and here is one of their Flagship SUVs that was on the back of a truck busy being taken somewhere and uh you know you can see it just catching on fire if you take a close look you can actually see the Sparks emanating from underneath the vehicle and this is of course terrifying because there’s really very little you can do with these massive electric fires just pouring water on it doesn’t do anything and I’m sure you’ll notice that whenever you see firefighters trying to put out an electric vehicle fire it takes a huge amount of uh water and whatever else to actually put these things out and Manpower so it’s not a normal thing and you’ll see just how devastating this can be in some of these clips so yes this is a top of the line Flagship SUV from byd I’ll actually put up the model on the screen so you can see which one it is and you’ll see that this is quite a common one to catch on fire actually because I’ve got multiple clips that show this exact same model catching on fire oh hey over here again another byd SUV that’s catching on fire and of course there you have the fire department trying to put it out and keep it safe and this as you saw in the intro is the byd Han which has been handed out to a lot of very high profile car reviewers around the world and here you can see it catching on fire on the streets of China how about we move on to another model of byd here that you can see burning in the background I think you can uh pick up a little bit of a trend here is that these things do combust and this again is the top brand this is the best EV brand coming out of China that’s got the biggest and longest history because byd has been around for a very long time in fact when I got to China back in 2006 I saw lots of byds driving around but they all look like BMWs or at least the logo did because byd stole its original logo from BMW and even the name byd is kind of a knockoff of BMW but that was byd back in the day of course it has evolved and gotten better over time so what I’m saying is byd is one of China’s most prestigious brands with the longest history with the most amount of quality control with the most amount of resources and r d and factories and testing and all that kind of stuff and you still see their brand new flagship EVS Catching Fire all over China and it does beg the question all these reviewers these big name reviewers that review all these cars why have none of them mentioned this fact this very simple fact that bydevs catch fire and burn down all the time in China and here’s the thing let’s take a look at this next clip over here not only do the cars themselves catch fire but they also are a massive Hazard because if they park next to anything like for instance this building they catch the building on fire there was a a small shop just right in front of where this uh byd was parked this is another byd that caught fire and it actually set the shop on fire and the whole sort of first floor started to catch on fire and burn there it’s really putting people’s lives at risk not just the cars and any potential passengers or drivers inside of the cars I mean this is some serious stuff and it took hours to put this out because like I’ve said earlier electrical fires just are almost impossible to put out with conventional means I mean look at all the fire extinguishers they’re using here and the Flames just keep on going uh it’s it’s a nightmare it’s an absolute nightmare foreign commentary on what’s going on here the guy’s shouting quickly the electrical wires and now the air conditioner put it out oh look it’s still burning put it out oh no that kind of thing and you can see the chaos this thing just won’t go out and I wanted to point out that this is another one of those tongue SUVs you know the flagship SUV the 2022 model that we saw burning on the back of that trailer same car foreign here again we have the lovely byd Han and we see it Catching Fire on the highway awesome doesn’t only stop with passenger vehicles or the byd buses themselves they’re not immune to catching on fire as you can see here and you know this is very scary because this is the public transport they’re always crammed with people on the streets and I’d like to before we get into the fact that we’ve got their latest prototype over here from byd catching on fire too I would like to talk about the whole public transport stuff because you know that’s one of the things that I I must commend China with is the fact that they really do Implement things in a big way when they decide to do something they do it but the unfortunate thing is that when you just go ahead and do something you very often overlook the reason why it shouldn’t have just done it in the first place let me give you this example okay they decided that they wanted to roll out um electric vehicles in the cities and the city that I lived in for 14 years Shenzhen they decided to go fully electric as far as their buses and taxi fleets were concerned and so they did in certain areas anyway like the downtown areas and they just rolled them out they rolled out the byd taxis I’ve actually got footage of myself driving in these things over a decade ago and they rolled out the buses but of course there were issues people did die these things did catch on fire but like all bad news in China this stuff doesn’t really get out there it gets suppressed I mean take a look you’re looking at a uh a train fire a high-speed rail fire you haven’t heard about that have you all you ever hear about uh trains in China is how amazing they are and how the infrastructure is second to none and incredible you don’t hear about the accidents and the fires and things like that because it’s suppressed the local press doesn’t even talk about it and certainly it’s not allowed to hit International press which is uh again why all you see about Chinese EVS is flashy good cool stuff but you never hear about these fires so back to their latest prototype here Catching Fire I mean come on guys this is the newest and greatest and latest thing coming out of byd and they can’t even stop that Catching Fire there’s definitely an issue here when it comes to quality control and safety speaking of quality control and safety this is a very important clip over here here we have a multi-car pileup we’ve got a Tesla you know the SUV one of the Gullwing doors we’ve got an older Mercedes Benz and we have a byd SUV fairly new model in fact that is I think their Flagship model over there now there’s something important to note here all three cars had front impact damage severe damage I mean you can see the damage of the cars here but if you look closely the Tesla and of course the Mercedes-Benz the airbags all deployed okay there you can see the airbag and the Mercedes here you can see the multiple airbags all over the um the Tesla over here it sure does have a lot of airbags um but let’s take a look at the byd in the background there remember this is not an old car you can see you can actually see the steering wheel uh according to the person who shot this video none of the airbags in the byd deployed and look the whole front end of the thing is missing so that’s worrying and that’s the unfortunate truth when it comes to Chinese cars is that as fancy as they look and as fancy as they might seem with all their features and quirks and so on they still lack when it comes to Quality I mean I should know I owned a Chinese car for about 10 years I bought it brand new and that thing was rubbish a brand new car and things that shouldn’t break on a car broke on that car during you know the first year I owned it the aircon compressor stopped working a brand new vehicle rubber that shouldn’t perish and normally takes 10 20 years before you get problems with it started to perish after two years you know things like hoses and stuff lots of problems with that car but that’s another story and I’ve told it before uh the fact of the matter is though that’s scary no airbags deployed after an accident like that in the byd and yet the other vehicles they’re fine how about this clip this byd again it’s a byd I know I’m picking on byd but we’ll get to the other brands don’t worry um the door just fell off that’s great great but now uh here’s another thing what is the one thing that you probably don’t want to go wrong when you’re driving a vehicle you probably don’t want their wheels to fall off in fact the whole rear axle to fall off with the wheels that’s probably not what you’re looking for in a car and this again is one of byd’s new crossovers it’s kind of their entry level crossover SUV thing but it’s a new model and driving down the road and the wheels just come off not good that’s a quirk and feature that I could do without I thought we’d round off the byd stuff with this clip which I think is uh again very self-explanatory let’s take a look I’ll just quickly tell you what the subtitles say there’s this BRD so it means like a couple of months old byd shots which basically means the the brakes suddenly failed okay so this has got uh 7 300 kilometers on it so it’s a very new car is basically uh what we’re saying here I don’t know what that is in Miles I’ll put it up on the screen but um let’s take a look yeah no you can’t turn it on your top okay he can’t open the trunk he can’t disengage the parking brake he’s basically screwed he’s basically screwed so the thing just broke down on the side of the road his couple of months old byd again this is that Flagship Han vehicle byd Han well you know it’s supposed to be really cool and uh everything’s kind of broken he can’t turn it on he can’t disengage the brake he can’t open the trunk I mean this is the quality control that we’re looking at here so let’s give byd a break here I know that we’ve got to move on to some other brands so here we have a Southeast DX7 South East is another fairly Big Brand in China and that’s their crossover model over there just catching on fire on the side of the road over here we have something called a weltmeister again there’s so many EV companies starting up and a lot of them are in conglomeration with other big Automotive brands in China it’s a big rush for investment but again you know these things just catching on fire uh while charging or just parked it’s really scary here we have another one of those weird startups it’s called a leap motor this one of course again self-combusted in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got the fire trucks there trying to put it out I mean I think you’re starting to see a pattern here a lot of these things are burning to the ground and it’s not just an isolated case here or there this is something that’s happening a lot okay those were some interesting startups you’ve probably never heard of but what about China’s most premium brand I’m talking about the Rolls-Royce of China the one that Xi Jinping uses the car that you always see him standing in there you know there’s microphones driving around and you know waving listlessly at the troops well you know the Hong Chi is what it’s called and they’ve got a premium SUV which is a knockoff of a Rolls-Royce let’s take a look at how that one does well not that much better here you can see it uh caught fire while charging and this is like I said the Rolls-Royce of Chinese EVS it’s the best of the best and not even they are immune that’s uh yeah that’s quite devastating over there so what can we take away from this video other than the fact that you don’t want to pile your family into a Chinese Eevee for a long road trip well I’d like you to take away the following Stop Believing the hype China keeps putting out this slick propaganda about how they’ve got these really Advanced Technologies how the Chinese green technologies out there and the windmills and the solar panels and the electric vehicles it’s all a smoke screen and a bunch of BS China right now is investing more money in massive coal burning power plants and technologies that actually pollute the world more than do any good so as much as they have this big Green Tech smoke screen it is really just all smoke and mirrors this is the kind of thing that we discuss and I’ll show every week and I’d love for you to join me there it’s called the China show and this is where we keep you up to date on the latest things coming in and out of China keep you up to date with the news keep you up to date with the things that are happening on the Chinese internet the fun stuff the terrible stuff everything in between hope to see you there this Friday hope to see you there every Friday and also don’t forget that I have a secret show every Monday which you can find in the links below guys until next time unlike Chinese EVS which still have a very long way to go before they catch up to the rest of the world stay awesome now foreigners become Chinese CCP shills or Famous by starting by eating Chinese spicy food the spicy chicken feet to genocide denial right super spicy that’s that’s a I cringe out when I see this yeah me too it’s so fake oh my God isn’t it I want to die is it a cringe right underneath Tibet in a nutshell it’s like flag raising ceremony and Tiananmen Square Beijing xinjiang dancing happy uyghurs oh geez she’s making me sick anyway let’s take a look at what I can’t watch his well it actually makes me uncomfortable just come on dude seriously full of they started with chili spicy food and you end up a chill

Thanks, we needed that.

I’m still wondering why guardio makes the web any safer than using common sense?

Chinese EV’s

“It’s incredibly humbling to have your support,”

I used to find it annoying when people said that recognition and support were “humbling”, but then I heard Amanda Vanstone venting about it, so these days I think it’s just fine.

(but I still don’t see what is “humbling” about it).

It’s just silliness. A little thought would tell them that’s it’s actually insulting to tell people that their support has a humbling effect.

In the old days people would say “I am honoured”, which means the opposite and which is what they really meant to say.

also are a massive Hazard because if they park next to anything like for instance this building they catch the building on fire there was a a small shop just right in front of where this uh byd was parked this is another byd that caught fire and it actually set the shop on fire and the whole sort of first floor started to catch on fire and burn there it’s really putting people’s lives at risk not just the cars and any potential passengers or drivers inside of the cars I mean this is some serious stuff and it took hours to put this out because like I’ve said earlier electrical fires just are almost impossible to put out with conventional means I mean look at all the fire extinguishers they’re using here and the Flames just keep on going uh it’s it’s a nightmare it’s an absolute nightmare foreign commentary on what’s going on here the guy’s shouting quickly the electrical wires and now the air conditioner put it out oh look it’s still burning put it out oh no that kind of thing and you can see the chaos this thing just won’t go out and I wanted to point out that this is another one of those tongue SUVs you know the flagship SUV the 2022 model that we saw burning on the back of that trailer same car foreign here again we have the lovely byd Han and we see it Catching Fire on the highway awesome doesn’t only stop with passenger vehicles or the byd buses themselves they’re not immune to catching on fire as you can see here and you know this is very scary because this is the public transport they’re always crammed with people on the streets and I’d like to before we get into the fact that we’ve got their latest prototype over here from byd catching on fire too I would like to talk about the whole public transport stuff because you know that’s one of the things that I I must commend China with is the fact that they really do Implement things in a big way when they decide to do something they do it but the unfortunate thing is that when you just go ahead and do something you very often overlook the reason why it shouldn’t have just done it in the first place let me give you this example okay they decided that they wanted to roll out um electric vehicles in the cities and the city that I lived in for 14 years Shenzhen they decided to go fully electric as far as their buses and taxi fleets were concerned and so they did in certain areas anyway like the downtown areas and they just rolled them out they rolled out the byd taxis I’ve actually got footage of myself driving in these things over a decade ago and they rolled out the buses but of course there were issues people did die these things did catch on fire but like all bad news in China this stuff doesn’t really get out there it gets suppressed I mean take a look you’re looking at a uh a train fire a high-speed rail fire you haven’t heard about that have you all you ever hear about uh trains in China is how amazing they are and how the infrastructure is second to none and incredible you don’t hear about the accidents and the fires and things like that because it’s suppressed the local press doesn’t even talk about it and certainly it’s not allowed to hit International press which is uh again why all you see about Chinese EVS is flashy good cool stuff but you never hear about these fires so back to their latest prototype here Catching Fire I mean come on guys this is the newest and greatest and latest thing coming out of byd and they can’t even stop that Catching Fire there’s definitely an issue here when it comes to quality control and safety speaking of quality control and safety this is a very important clip over here here we have a multi-car pileup we’ve got a Tesla you know the SUV one of the Gullwing doors we’ve got an older Mercedes Benz and we have a byd SUV fairly new model in fact that is I think their Flagship model over there now there’s something important to note here all three cars had front impact damage severe damage I mean you can see the damage of the cars here but if you look closely the Tesla and of course the Mercedes-Benz the airbags all deployed okay there you can see the airbag and the Mercedes here you can see the multiple airbags all over the um the Tesla over here it sure does have a lot of airbags um but let’s take a look at the byd in the background there remember this is not an old car you can see you can actually see the steering wheel uh according to the person who shot this video none of the airbags in the byd deployed and look the whole front end of the thing is missing so that’s worrying and that’s the unfortunate truth when it comes to Chinese cars is that as fancy as they look and as fancy as they might seem with all their features and quirks and so on they still lack when it comes to Quality I mean I should know I owned a Chinese car for about 10 years I bought it brand new and that thing was rubbish a brand new car and things that shouldn’t break on a car broke on that car during you know the first year I owned it the aircon compressor stopped working a brand new vehicle rubber that shouldn’t perish and normally takes 10 20 years before you get problems with it started to perish after two years you know things like hoses and stuff lots of problems with that car but that’s another story and I’ve told it before uh the fact of the matter is though that’s scary no airbags deployed after an accident like that in the byd and yet the other vehicles they’re fine how about this clip this byd again it’s a byd I know I’m picking on byd but we’ll get to the other brands don’t worry um the door just fell off that’s great great but now uh here’s another thing what is the one thing that you probably don’t want to go wrong when you’re driving a vehicle you probably don’t want their wheels to fall off in fact the whole rear axle to fall off with the wheels that’s probably not what you’re looking for in a car and this again is one of byd’s new crossovers it’s kind of their entry level crossover SUV thing but it’s a new model and driving down the road and the wheels just come off not good that’s a quirk and feature that I could do without I thought we’d round off the byd stuff with this clip which I think is uh again very self-explanatory let’s take a look I’ll just quickly tell you what the subtitles say there’s this BRD so it means like a couple of months old byd shots which basically means the the brakes suddenly failed okay so this has got uh 7 300 kilometers on it so it’s a very new car is basically uh what we’re saying here I don’t know what that is in Miles I’ll put it up on the screen but um let’s take a look yeah no you can’t turn it on your top okay he can’t open the trunk he can’t disengage the parking brake he’s basically screwed he’s basically screwed so the thing just broke down on the side of the road his couple of months old byd again this is that Flagship Han vehicle byd Han well you know it’s supposed to be really cool and uh everything’s kind of broken he can’t turn it on he can’t disengage the brake he can’t open the trunk I mean this is the quality control that we’re looking at here so let’s give byd a break here I know that we’ve got to move on to some other brands so here we have a Southeast DX7 South East is another fairly Big Brand in China and that’s their crossover model over there just catching on fire on the side of the road over here we have something called a weltmeister again there’s so many EV companies starting up and a lot of them are in conglomeration with other big Automotive brands in China it’s a big rush for investment but again you know these things just catching on fire uh while charging or just parked it’s really scary here we have another one of those weird startups it’s called a leap motor this one of course again self-combusted in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got the fire trucks there trying to put it out I mean I think you’re starting to see a pattern here a lot of these things are burning to the ground and it’s not just an isolated case here or there this is something that’s happening a lot okay those were some interesting startups you’ve probably never heard of but what about China’s most premium brand I’m talking about the Rolls-Royce of China the one that Xi Jinping uses the car that you always see him standing in there you know there’s microphones driving around and you know waving listlessly at the troops well you know the Hong Chi is what it’s called and they’ve got a premium SUV which is a knockoff of a Rolls-Royce let’s take a look at how that one does well not that much better here you can see it uh caught fire while charging and this is like I said the Rolls-Royce of Chinese EVS it’s the best of the best and not even they are immune that’s uh yeah that’s quite devastating over there so what can we take away from this video other than the fact that you don’t want to pile your family into a Chinese Eevee for a long road trip well I’d like you to take away the following Stop Believing the hype China keeps putting out this slick propaganda about how they’ve got these really Advanced Technologies how the Chinese green technologies out there and the windmills and the solar panels and the electric vehicles it’s all a smoke screen and a bunch of BS China right now is investing more money in massive coal burning power plants and technologies that actually pollute the world more than do any good so as much as they have this big Green Tech smoke screen it is really just all smoke and mirrors this is the kind of thing that we discuss and I’ll show every week and I’d love for you to join me there it’s called the China show and this is where we keep you up to date on the latest things coming in and out of China keep you up to date with the news keep you up to date with the things that are happening on the Chinese internet the fun stuff the terrible stuff everything in between hope to see you there this Friday hope to see you there every Friday and also don’t forget that I have a secret show every Monday which you can find in the links below guys until next time unlike Chinese EVS which still have a very long way to go before they catch up to the rest of the world stay awesome now foreigners become Chinese CCP shills or Famous by starting by eating Chinese spicy food the spicy chicken feet to genocide denial right super spicy that’s that’s a I cringe out when I see this yeah me too it’s so fake oh my God isn’t it I want to die is it a cringe right underneath Tibet in a nutshell it’s like flag raising ceremony and Tiananmen Square Beijing xinjiang dancing happy uyghurs oh geez she’s making me sick anyway let’s take a look at what I can’t watch his well it actually makes me uncomfortable just come on dude seriously full of they started with chili spicy food and you end up a chill

this is a new byd han which is a fully electric mid-size luxury sedan from the Chinese automaker byd you can’t buy this car in America right now and you won’t be able to in the future either which is a bit of a shame because we’re missing out on some truly amazing quirks and features so you’re interested in Chinese EVS perhaps you’ve seen the flashy adverts all the new brands coming out of China all the advanced technology and development that they seem to possess perhaps you’ve seen some big name reviewers looking at the latest byd models or Neo or whatever the case may be fawning over the features well this is a video that will tell you that it’s a bunch of BS so China is ahead of the game when it comes to EVS in many ways one of those ways is that China’s ahead of the game when it comes to EVS catching on fire and spontaneously combusting and their reasons for this quality controls kind of Lacks shortcuts are taken but let’s talk about the good before we get into the bad because we’re going to be looking at a lot of Clips here of Chinese EVS catching on fire doing dangerous things and well by the end of this you probably realize that there’s still a very long way to go before a Chinese EV can be trusted at all even the best and biggest brands like this byd Burning to the ground behind me here but before we get into all the explosive action a word from our sponsor hitting the roads in a car is like entering a battlefield you never know when the unpredictable may happen a drunk driver someone distracted by their phone or even just someone who shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car to combat this we equip our cars with many safety features not just one we have seat belts crumple zones airbags abs and so much more and now it’s time to treat Internet safety in the same way and this is where today’s sponsored guardio comes in as we hit the information Super Highway we also risk running into malware hackers identity thieves scammers and malicious code guardio is here to protect you it’s a browser plugin that acts as your first line of defense blocking malicious attacks before they even happen remember our browsers contain all of our personal information software guardio’s identity protection is cross-platform giving you real-time alerts on your mobile so that you can act immediately should a data leak occur go to god.io forward slash serpent Za it only takes 30 seconds to install and one guardio account covers five family members even your mom who keeps thinking that she’s won a lottery in the UK and it’ll only cost a fraction of the winnings to pay the international transfer fees join over 1 million people who have already installed guardio today go to guard.io forward slash serpents a day and you’ll get 20 off their already affordable monthly subscription link is in the description and now back to the show so I thought we’d start with the big boys byd or BRD as it is pronounced in Chinese and byd is one of the biggest automakers in China and probably the most well-known in fact Warren Buffett himself back to this company and everybody sees it as the flagship when it comes to Chinese authors especially EVS so I’ve put together a compilation of byd only clips that we’re going to take a look at together over here so this was not that long ago in Shenzhen a new byd model burning to the ground while charging and of course you can see just how much effort it takes to put out an EV fire you see without getting too complicated when you drive around in your internal combustion engine car you’re carrying your fuel with you of course the petrol but that’s only half of your energy source the other half is the air which gets mixed with it together to create the combustion it’s all science but basically you’re only actually carrying half of the energy in your car in fuel and it takes quite a lot to ignite that it needs a proper spark you actually need to go in and set fire to the fuel when it comes to electric cars you’re carrying all of the energy in the battery pack like everything you’re not mixing anything else from the outside into it so you’re carrying this immense amount of energy around with you and there are various things that can cause it to erupt obviously if it gets punctured uh if you’re in an accident there’s a serious risk of it going off as we’ve seen a number of times in the past but of course any kind of electrical short in the system can cause this thing to go bad and this is why electric vehicles are more prone to catching on fire than an irregular internal combustion engine but on top of that the way that the energy gets released is really scary when you’ve got one of these big battery packs that catch on fire that get punctured Etc anyway let’s take a look at a couple of byd Clips here foreign energy car has caught on fire it’s so unsafe anyway that’s also a byd model down there anyway she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode so she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode there but this is not an uncommon sight in and around China now I did a lot of work when it came to electric bikes and I used to mess around with e-bikes and scooters and those things catch fire all the time too and that’s because it’s impossible to really regulate that industry when it comes to electric bikes there’s so many knockoffs and random brands that are made in tiny little factories all over the place that regulations just well they don’t exist so they can do anything they want to take shortcuts when it comes to the battery production or the circuit boards or whatever so you get a lot of these things catching on fire just outright exploding melting down and there are fire hazard they really are so much so that you’re not allowed to take electric vehicles even the small little foldable bikes onto the public transport in China anymore in the big cities and it’s just one of those things foreign but when it comes to the electric vehicles as you can see this one burning down behind me it’s really more of the same thing right now there’s a rush to create EVS in China and so you’ve got all these different brands coming out of the woodwork and these up start companies that are busy getting investment from overseas and investment from just about everywhere to create the next biggest EV and well you can understand that a lot of shortcuts are being taken and the result of course is what you see on the screen behind us but this is byd this is the particular model that you’ve just seen burned down and here is one of their Flagship SUVs that was on the back of a truck busy being taken somewhere and uh you know you can see it just catching on fire if you take a close look you can actually see the Sparks emanating from underneath the vehicle and this is of course terrifying because there’s really very little you can do with these massive electric fires just pouring water on it doesn’t do anything and I’m sure you’ll notice that whenever you see firefighters trying to put out an electric vehicle fire it takes a huge amount of uh water and whatever else to actually put these things out and Manpower so it’s not a normal thing and you’ll see just how devastating this can be in some of these clips so yes this is a top of the line Flagship SUV from byd I’ll actually put up the model on the screen so you can see which one it is and you’ll see that this is quite a common one to catch on fire actually because I’ve got multiple clips that show this exact same model catching on fire oh hey over here again another byd SUV that’s catching on fire and of course there you have the fire department trying to put it out and keep it safe and this as you saw in the intro is the byd Han which has been handed out to a lot of very high profile car reviewers around the world and here you can see it catching on fire on the streets of China how about we move on to another model of byd here that you can see burning in the background I think you can uh pick up a little bit of a trend here is that these things do combust and this again is the top brand this is the best EV brand coming out of China that’s got the biggest and longest history because byd has been around for a very long time in fact when I got to China back in 2006 I saw lots of byds driving around but they all look like BMWs or at least the logo did because byd stole its original logo from BMW and even the name byd is kind of a knockoff of BMW but that was byd back in the day of course it has evolved and gotten better over time so what I’m saying is byd is one of China’s most prestigious brands with the longest history with the most amount of quality control with the most amount of resources and r d and factories and testing and all that kind of stuff and you still see their brand new flagship EVS Catching Fire all over China and it does beg the question all these reviewers these big name reviewers that review all these cars why have none of them mentioned this fact this very simple fact that bydevs catch fire and burn down all the time in China and here’s the thing let’s take a look at this next clip over here not only do the cars themselves catch fire but they see just how much effort it takes to put out an EV fire you see without getting too complicated when you drive around in your internal combustion engine car you’re carrying your fuel with you of course the petrol but that’s only half of your energy source the other half is the air which gets mixed with it together to create the combustion it’s all science but basically you’re only actually carrying half of the energy in your car in fuel and it takes quite a lot to ignite that it needs a proper spark you actually need to go in and set fire to the fuel when it comes to electric cars you’re carrying all of the energy in the battery pack like everything you’re not mixing anything else from the outside into it so you’re carrying this immense amount of energy around with you and there are various things that can cause it to erupt obviously if it gets punctured uh if you’re in an accident there’s a serious risk of it going off as we’ve seen a number of times in the past but of course any kind of electrical short in the system can cause this thing to go bad and this is why electric vehicles are more prone to catching on fire than an irregular internal combustion engine but on top of that the way that the energy gets released is really scary when you’ve got one of these big battery packs that catch on fire that get punctured Etc anyway let’s take a look at a couple of byd Clips here foreign energy car has caught on fire it’s so unsafe anyway that’s also a byd model down there anyway she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode so she’s just concerned that it’s going to explode there but this is not an uncommon sight in and around China now I did a lot of work when it came to electric bikes and I used to mess around with e-bikes and scooters and those things catch fire all the time too and that’s because it’s impossible to really regulate that industry when it comes to electric bikes there’s so many knockoffs and random brands that are made in tiny little factories all over the place that regulations just well they don’t exist so they can do anything they want to take shortcuts when it comes to the battery production or the circuit boards or whatever so you get a lot of these things catching on fire just outright exploding melting down and there are fire hazard they really are so much so that you’re not allowed to take electric vehicles even the small little foldable bikes onto the public transport in China anymore in the big cities and it’s just one of those things foreign but when it comes to the electric vehicles as you can see this one burning down behind me it’s really more of the same thing right now there’s a rush to create EVS in China and so you’ve got all these different brands coming out of the woodwork and these up start companies that are busy getting investment from overseas and investment from just about everywhere to create the next biggest EV and well you can understand that a lot of shortcuts are being taken and the result of course is what you see on the screen behind us but this is byd this is the particular model that you’ve just seen burned down and here is one of their Flagship SUVs that was on the back of a truck busy being taken somewhere and uh you know you can see it just catching on fire if you take a close look you can actually see the Sparks emanating from underneath the vehicle and this is of course terrifying because there’s really very little you can do with these massive electric fires just pouring water on it doesn’t do anything and I’m sure you’ll notice that whenever you see firefighters trying to put out an electric vehicle fire it takes a huge amount of uh water and whatever else to actually put these things out and Manpower so it’s not a normal thing and you’ll see just how devastating this can be in some of these clips so yes this is a top of the line Flagship SUV from byd I’ll actually put up the model on the screen so you can see which one it is and you’ll see that this is quite a common one to catch on fire actually because I’ve got multiple clips that show this exact same model catching on fire oh hey over here again another byd SUV that’s catching on fire and of course there you have the fire department trying to put it out and keep it safe and this as you saw in the intro is the byd Han which has been handed out to a lot of very high profile car reviewers around the world and here you can see it catching on fire on the streets of China how about we move on to another model of byd here that you can see burning in the background I think you can uh pick up a little bit of a trend here is that these things do combust and this again is the top brand this is the best EV brand coming out of China that’s got the biggest and longest history because byd has been around for a very long time in fact when I got to China back in 2006 I saw lots of byds driving around but they all look like BMWs or at least the logo did because byd stole its original logo from BMW and even the name byd is kind of a knockoff of BMW but that was byd back in the day of course it has evolved and gotten better over time so what I’m saying is byd is one of China’s most prestigious brands with the longest history with the most amount of quality control with the most amount of resources and r d and factories and testing and all that kind of stuff and you still see their brand new flagship EVS Catching Fire all over China and it does beg the question all these reviewers these big name reviewers that review all these cars why have none of them mentioned this fact this very simple fact that bydevs catch fire and burn down all the time in China and here’s the thing let’s take a look at this next clip over here not only do the cars themselves catch fire but they also are a massive Hazard because if they park next to anything like for instance this building they catch the building on fire there was a a small shop just right in front of where this uh byd was parked this is another byd that caught fire and it actually set the shop on fire and the whole sort of first floor started to catch on fire and burn there it’s really putting people’s lives at risk not just the cars and any potential passengers or drivers inside of the cars I mean this is some serious stuff and it took hours to put this out because like I’ve said earlier electrical fires just are almost impossible to put out with conventional means I mean look at all the fire extinguishers they’re using here and the Flames just keep on going uh it’s it’s a nightmare it’s an absolute nightmare foreign commentary on what’s going on here the guy’s shouting quickly the electrical wires and now the air conditioner put it out oh look it’s still burning put it out oh no that kind of thing and you can see the chaos this thing just won’t go out and I wanted to point out that this is another one of those tongue SUVs you know the flagship SUV the 2022 model that we saw burning on the back of that trailer same car foreign here again we have the lovely byd Han and we see it Catching Fire on the highway awesome doesn’t only stop with passenger vehicles or the byd buses themselves they’re not immune to catching on fire as you can see here and you know this is very scary because this is the public transport they’re always crammed with people on the streets and I’d like to before we get into the fact that we’ve got their latest prototype over here from byd catching on fire too I would like to talk about the whole public transport stuff because you know that’s one of the things that I I must commend China with is the fact that they really do Implement things in a big way when they decide to do something they do it but the unfortunate thing is that when you just go ahead and do something you very often overlook the reason why it shouldn’t have just done it in the first place let me give you this example okay they decided that they wanted to roll out um electric vehicles in the cities and the city that I lived in for 14 years Shenzhen they decided to go fully electric as far as their buses and taxi fleets were concerned and so they did in certain areas anyway like the downtown areas and they just rolled them out they rolled out the byd taxis I’ve actually got footage of myself driving in these things over a decade ago and they rolled out the buses but of course there were issues people did die these things did catch on fire but like all bad news in China this stuff doesn’t really get out there it gets suppressed I mean take a look you’re looking at a uh a train fire a high-speed rail fire you haven’t heard about that have you all you ever hear about uh trains in China is how amazing they are and how the infrastructure is second to none and incredible you don’t hear about the accidents and the fires and things like that because it’s suppressed the local press doesn’t even talk about it and certainly it’s not allowed to hit International press which is uh again why all you see about Chinese EVS is flashy good cool stuff but you never hear about these fires so back to their latest prototype here Catching Fire I mean come on guys this is the newest and greatest and latest thing coming out of byd and they can’t even stop that Catching Fire there’s definitely an issue here when it comes to quality control and safety speaking of quality control and safety this is a very important clip over here here we have a multi-car pileup we’ve got a Tesla you know the SUV one of the Gullwing doors we’ve got an older Mercedes Benz and we have a byd SUV fairly new model in fact that is I think their Flagship model over there now there’s something important to note here all three cars had front impact damage severe damage I mean you can see the damage of the cars here but if you look closely the Tesla and of course the Mercedes-Benz the airbags all deployed okay there you can see the airbag and the Mercedes here you can see the multiple airbags all over the um the Tesla over here it sure does have a lot of airbags um but let’s take a look at the byd in the background there remember this is not an old car you can see you can actually see the steering wheel uh according to the person who shot this video none of the airbags in the byd deployed and look the whole front end of the thing is missing so that’s worrying and that’s the unfortunate truth when it comes to Chinese cars is that as fancy as they look and as fancy as they might seem with all their features and quirks and so on they still lack when it comes to Quality I mean I should know I owned a Chinese car for about 10 years I bought it brand new and that thing was rubbish a brand new car and things that shouldn’t break on a car broke on that car during you know the first year I owned it the aircon compressor stopped working a brand new vehicle rubber that shouldn’t perish and normally takes 10 20 years before you get problems with it started to perish after two years you know things like hoses and stuff lots of problems with that car but that’s another story and I’ve told it before uh the fact of the matter is though that’s scary no airbags deployed after an accident like that in the byd and yet the other vehicles they’re fine how about this clip this byd again it’s a byd I know I’m picking on byd but we’ll get to the other brands don’t worry um the door just fell off that’s great great but now uh here’s another thing what is the one thing that you probably don’t want to go wrong when you’re driving a vehicle you probably don’t want their wheels to fall off in fact the whole rear axle to fall off with the wheels that’s probably not what you’re looking for in a car and this again is one of byd’s new crossovers it’s kind of their entry level crossover SUV thing but it’s a new model and driving down the road and the wheels just come off not good that’s a quirk and feature that I could do without I thought we’d round off the byd stuff with this clip which I think is uh again very self-explanatory let’s take a look I’ll just quickly tell you what the subtitles say there’s this BRD so it means like a couple of months old byd shots which basically means the the brakes suddenly failed okay so this has got uh 7 300 kilometers on it so it’s a very new car is basically uh what we’re saying here I don’t know what that is in Miles I’ll put it up on the screen but um let’s take a look yeah no you can’t turn it on your top okay he can’t open the trunk he can’t disengage the parking brake he’s basically screwed he’s basically screwed so the thing just broke down on the side of the road his couple of months old byd again this is that Flagship Han vehicle byd Han well you know it’s supposed to be really cool and uh everything’s kind of broken he can’t turn it on he can’t disengage the brake he can’t open the trunk I mean this is the quality control that we’re looking at here so let’s give byd a break here I know that we’ve got to move on to some other brands so here we have a Southeast DX7 South East is another fairly Big Brand in China and that’s their crossover model over there just catching on fire on the side of the road over here we have something called a weltmeister again there’s so many EV companies starting up and a lot of them are in conglomeration with other big Automotive brands in China it’s a big rush for investment but again you know these things just catching on fire uh while charging or just parked it’s really scary here we have another one of those weird startups it’s called a leap motor this one of course again self-combusted in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got the fire trucks there trying to put it out I mean I think you’re starting to see a pattern here a lot of these things are burning to the ground and it’s not just an isolated case here or there this is something that’s happening a lot okay those were some interesting startups you’ve probably never heard of but what about China’s most premium brand I’m talking about the Rolls-Royce of China the one that Xi Jinping uses the car that you always see him standing in there you know there’s microphones driving around and you know waving listlessly at the troops well you know the Hong Chi is what it’s called and they’ve got a premium SUV which is a knockoff of a Rolls-Royce let’s take a look at how that one does well not that much better here you can see it uh caught fire while charging and this is like I said the Rolls-Royce of Chinese EVS it’s the best of the best and not even they are immune that’s uh yeah that’s quite devastating over there so what can we take away from this video other than the fact that you don’t want to pile your family into a Chinese Eevee for a long road trip well I’d like you to take away the following Stop Believing the hype China keeps putting out this slick propaganda about how they’ve got these really Advanced Technologies how the Chinese green technologies out there and the windmills and the solar panels and the electric vehicles it’s all a smoke screen and a bunch of BS China right now is investing more money in massive coal burning power plants and technologies that actually pollute the world more than do any good so as much as they have this big Green Tech smoke screen it is really just all smoke and mirrors this is the kind of thing that we discuss and I’ll show every week and I’d love for you to join me there it’s called the China show and this is where we keep you up to date on the latest things coming in and out of China keep you up to date with the news keep you up to date with the things that are happening on the Chinese internet the fun stuff the terrible stuff everything in between hope to see you there this Friday hope to see you there every Friday and also don’t forget that I have a secret show every Monday which you can find in the links below guys until next time unlike Chinese EVS which still have a very long way to go before they catch up to the rest of the world stay awesome now foreigners become Chinese CCP shills or Famous by starting by eating Chinese spicy food the spicy chicken feet to genocide denial right super spicy that’s that’s a I cringe out when I see this yeah me too it’s so fake oh my God isn’t it I want to die is it a cringe right underneath Tibet in a nutshell it’s like flag raising ceremony and Tiananmen Square Beijing xinjiang dancing happy uyghurs oh geez she’s making me sick anyway let’s take a look at what I can’t watch his well it actually makes me uncomfortable just come on dude seriously full of they started with chili spicy food and you end up a chill

Fucking hell

Thanks for the summary.

Well yeah these propaganda battles over social media are really quite the passe.

I don’t think that addressing the wrong problem is an uncommon event.

Tell us you have no clue and can’t think of any solutions without telling us you have no clue and can’t think of any solutions but instead blaming someone anyone everyone¡

Ms Liu said parents were more worried about potentially harmful online content, rather than how long children were using the devices. “I think everyone has the right to access information freely and I would guide my daughter to judge the appropriateness of online information,” she said. “There is no need to intervene forcibly.”

Under the draft regulations, minor mode settings would bar users under 18 from accessing most online content from 10pm to 6am by default. Users aged 16 to 18 would be allowed two hours use a day, children aged eight to 16 would get one hour while children under eight would be allowed just 40 minutes, according to the Global Times.

However, parents would be able to override the restrictions. Ms Liu said children needed to have access to the internet for both study and general knowledge. “Minors in China face huge study loads,” she said. “The only time they have access to these devices may be during these late hours.”

That’s right, damn ASIANS don’t teach their students anything, they just lock them up / in / down / out¡

China’s “top-down approach” also missed the importance of teaching children how to make better decisions about using technology, Professor Michael says. “If we just limit without providing education and media literacy to children, we’re missing a grand opportunity to teach them how to utilise technology towards their own betterment.

Oh wait, so who’s restricting¿ The State¿ Reality and responsibility¿ School¿ Parents¿ So is it acceptable for school to have rules and parents to set limits, or not¿

Ruyi, a 13-year-old from China’s eastern province of Shandong, said the government’s efforts had not succeeded in limiting the amount of time he spent playing games while he was in primary school. He said he and his friends had used adults’ accounts instead of their own. He said now that he was in middle school, he didn’t have much time to use mobile devices anyway. “Phones are banned in school, so I only use it for less than 30 minutes every day. “For under 18s like us, we just want to play with our friends online freely as we wish, we don’t want to have a restriction imposed by our parents.”

All part of the plan¡

Some pointed out that teenagers could legally have sex at 14 but could potentially not freely use mobile phones until they were 18.

“Under-18s can’t even have the right to entertain ourselves?” a user on the Weibo microblogging site asked.

How dare CHINA families behave like Normal People ¡

Yanpin Yi, who lives in Zhejiang province, said she often argued with her teenage daughter over her use of the internet and electronic devices. “Youth internet addiction is a problem many parents are facing nowadays,” Ms Yi said. “The more you try to limit them , the more they rebel against you.

This is why Capitalism So Good, all the CHINA social media companies can come to other cuntries where they aren’t restricted the way TikTok, WeChat, Huawei, all that shit are… wait¡

Michael Keane, an expert in Chinese media and cultural policy at the Queensland University of Technology, said the technology companies may have to consider changing their business models or diversifying their audience if the restrictions come into reality. “They will probably go more global and look at markets outside China where they haven’t got the same kind of regulations.”

Covid, Winnie the Pooh, and now this disaster. China’s economy is taking a big hit the last couple of years. Many analysts distrust the official figures and reckon China is already in a deep recession.

Covid, Winnie the Pooh, and now this disaster. China’s economy is taking a big hit the last couple of years. Many analysts distrust the official figures and reckon China is already in a deep recession.

The good news is that

According to an analysis by Sydney based research firm XDI, Chinese provinces occupy more than half of global top 50 list of states and provinces most at risk of climate-related disaster by 2050. Two of China’s largest economic powerhouses, Jiangsu and Shandong, would be the most vulnerable places in the world to climate risks, according to the research.

so the optimal strategy for the USSA sphere of influence is to accelerate climate change¡

No. It is not in anybody’s interest to accelerate climate change. Perhaps apart from Russia, so they get a year-round ice-free port and a shipping lane they have complete control over.

In the USA, half of Florida and big chunks of coast along the GoM and Mississippi river are at risk of flodding. So they damage would outweigh any benefit in seeing China destroyed.

Between 247 BC and 221 BC, Qin had emerged as one of the most powerful of the Seven Warring States in China. In 230 BC, Ying Zheng, the King of Qin, unleashed the final campaigns of the Warring States period, setting out to conquer the remaining states one by one. Following the fall of Qi in 221 BC, China was unified under Qin control. Ying Zheng declared himself “Qin Shi Huang” (meaning “First Emperor of Qin”) and established the Qin dynasty, becoming the first sovereign ruler of a unified China.

China’s official data shows more than 444,463 homes have collapsed or been damaged in floods since July 29. In addition to the dozens of people still missing, at least 109 have died. But even those numbers have failed to provoke Mr Xi to make an appearance.

What’s funnier though is this idea here

According to Dr Xia, Chinese people now possess the “wisdom to resist” the government’s propaganda, and had worked out many ways to talk around censored terms. “Social media is a significant challenge ,” Dr Xia said. “Everyone has mobile phones, and the Chinese people are becoming harder and harder to fool.”

because social media have become such a success here in helping prevent people from being fooled and instead helping them see the Real Truth and Do Their Own Research¡

China’s ‘ticking time bomb’ could be set to explode
ByAmbrose Evans-Pritchard
August 18, 2023 — 10.45am

China’s financial system is one step away from a full-blown crisis. Unless radical action is taken to stem contagion through the shadow banks and halt the contractionary slide in demand, China risks tipping into a classic liquidity trap.

Cai Fang, a rate-setter at the central bank, has called for a $US550 billion ($859 billion) blast of helicopter money – or high-powered QE injected into the veins of the economy – in order to stop a deflationary psychology taking hold as frightened households retrench.

“The most urgent imperative now is to stimulate consumer spending. It is necessary to use all reasonable, legal, and economically viable channels to put money into people’s pockets,” he wrote on China Finance 40, the opinion forum of the elite.

This increasingly feels like the make-or-break moment faced by the US Treasury in 2008 after Lehman Brothers collapsed, or faced by the eurozone in 2012 when the doom-loop threatened to engulf Italy and Spain.

America and Europe acted in time, after a string of errors.

It is far from clear that Xi Jinping has recognised the destructive mechanisms at work in China, or that economists in the West are alert to the global dangers through multiple channels of transmission, starting with an exchange rate shock.

The yuan has fallen to a sixteen-year low against the dollar. The East Asian currency bloc is falling in tandem, pushing the euro trade-weighted index to a record high.

The effect is to bludgeon a eurozone economy already in a deep industrial recession. The cheaper the yuan, the greater the tsunami of Chinese electric vehicles, machinery, or wind turbines, heading for Europe.

Westerners emerged from the pandemic with windfall savings, thanks to furlough schemes.

The Chinese endured draconian lockdowns for three years with far less support. The damage has undermined the finances of millions of small family businesses. A large chunk of the population has slashed spending in order to rebuild depleted savings.

It is the immediate reason why the post-pandemic rebound has already fizzled and why the economy has tipped into deflation. The deeper reason is the painful unwinding of the great Communist debt bubble, an episode uncannily similar to the debt woes of the late Qing dynasty.

The giant developer Country Garden, with total liabilities of $USUS200 billion, is days away from default after missing payments on dollar loans issued in Hong Kong.

Ting Lu and Jing Wang from Nomura estimate that the company has already received payment for a million properties that have yet to be built.

Like other developers relying on China’s “pre-sale” model it depends on a constant flow of new buyers to cover old debts.

The buyers have dried up. The CRIC Research Centre says sales in July by the top-100 developers were just 30 per cent of levels three years ago.

“We believe the Chinese economy is faced with an imminent downward spiral with the worst yet to come,” they said, warning that half-hearted tinkering by the authorities so far will not stop a wave of defaults and chain-reaction through the economy.

“In our view, Beijing should play the role of lender of last resort to support major developers and financial institutions in trouble, and should play the role of spender of last resort to boost aggregate demand,” it said.

China’s $US60 trillion property edifice is by far the largest asset class in the world.

It accounts for half of the world’s entire property sales, an astonishing figure given that China’s workforce is already contracting and net migration from the countryside has stopped.

China Evergrande Group sought Chapter 15 bankruptcy protection in New York on Thursday, a move that protects its US assets from creditors while it works on a restructuring deal elsewhere.

The developers have debts of $US5 trillion. By comparison, this is six times greater than America’s $US800 billion subprime property debt on the eve of the Lehman crisis.

They rely heavily on the $US3 trillion “trust” segment of the shadow banking nexus known, which has no lender of last resort. These trusts are starting to blow up. The $US140 billion Zhongzhi Empire is the most disturbing casualty so far.

The property bubble is the Ponzi scheme that keeps China’s local governments afloat.

They rely on property for 38 per cent of total revenue, mostly from land sales. These sales have collapsed. The finance ministry says local government income fell 21 per cent in the first half of 2023.

This must lead to a severe fiscal squeeze unless Beijing comes to the rescue with a huge stimulus package stimulus. The signs are that Xi Jinping is still reluctant to do so.

His allies have published a media note entitled “Clarifying the Eight Misconceptions about Expanding Domestic Demand”.

Xi faces an invidious choice. Hurling credit at the deformed Chinese economy every time the sugar rush fades and the economy slows is what has led to this colossal mess, but biting the bullet risks an economic depression and a crisis of legitimacy for the Communist Party.

His immediate reflex is to silence unpleasant statistics. Youth unemployment data has been suspended after the rate jumped to a record 21 per cent.

A Beijing professor thinks the rate is nearer 46 per cent once you include those “lying flat”, the Chinese term for dropping out, living at home, and sponging off grandparents (four per child) to while away the day with friends in coffee shops.

The Party’s first mistake was to ignore warnings by premier Li Keqiang a decade ago that China risked falling into the middle income trap if it clung too long to a catch-up model of state-led construction.

The second mistake was to launch a political purge against business bosses and turn away from Deng Xiaoping’s outward-looking economics, the motor force of China’s revival.

The third was to revert to economic Leninism, thinking that 2008 was a systemic crisis of US-led capitalism and a validation of Party control over credit.

The fourth was to pick a fight with the liberal West before China was close to economic parity.

The evidence is in. The growth rate of total factor productivity has fallen to the levels of mature economies before China is mature.

The country is no longer on the same trajectory as Japan, Taiwan, and Korea at a comparable point of development. The nail in the coffin is an 87 per cent fall in foreign direct investment last quarter, the lowest level since records began in the 1990s. That is Xi’s legacy.

Capital Economics thinks China’s (true) trend growth will drop to 2.8 per cent over the late 2020s. If so, China will not surpass the US this decade, and will then fall back as the demographic decline gathers pace.

China denies vehemently that it is succumbing to ‘Japanification’.

In my view, it will be lucky to do as well as Japan. It has the same pathologies of boom-bust deflation and vanishing workers, but is further blighted by totalitarian leaders with a deep fear of the free market.

Unlike Japan, it has angered the West and must now contend with strategic reshoring and a hi-tech blockade.

Joe Biden calls China’s economy a “ticking time bomb”.

My presumption is that Xi Jinping will not let it detonate on his watch. At some point he will blink and take drastic action to shore up the property market and the shadow banks, putting off the day of reckoning for another cycle.

If he does not, the global financial system is in for a dangerous denouement this winter.

Meanwhile, the Chinese economy seems to be heading into a crisis. The housing bubble has popped, big developers are defaulting on their debts and going bankrupt. Many housing projects remain unfinished with no money to complete them. Nobody is buying new homes. Foreign companies are leaving. Manufacturing businesses going broke.

It looks like the long awaited and long predicted China economic crash is happening.

This is not going to be great for the world economy if China goes into recession. They’ve had a solid forty years f growth which has powered the rest of the world economy along with it.

Not good news for iron ore prices.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-10-18/developer-campbellfield-native-vegetation-illegal-clearing/102956858

if GOVERNMENT does it then bad bad bad but

When development company East Rex Road Property became the legal owner of the Campbellfield property in Melbourne’s north, it began illegally removing trees and native vegetation without having applied to Hume City Council for a permit for the work. From November 2019 to the following January, the company, through subcontractors, cleared an estimated 1.4 hectares of vegetation. The developer and the company were criminally convicted and fined a combined $225,000 in the Victorian County Court. But after the land was illegally cleared, the developer separately applied to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for permission to clear the rest of the land of native vegetation, subdivide the block and build warehouses, which was approved in April.

In making its decision, VCAT relied on expert evaluations of the land’s environmental value, which were conducted after the property had been cleared and found the site scored 29 out of 100 in a vegetation assessment “with large trees and canopy being absent”. VCAT found the site had a high industrial value and gave the $6.8-million project the green light with conditions that the developer relocate some endangered species and pay for environmental offsets to protect other land.

if private enterprise does it, then it’s good for the economy, it’s good for the environment, it’s good for everyone¡

Mr Mathieson said that given much of the operation took place along the Chinese border and that most of the groups were supplied by weapons from, or through, China, it was “inconceivable” the Chinese authorities were unaware of what was going on.
