I’m no expert at this kind of thing. Is anyone able to identify what this timber might be?
I’m think some kind of maple.

Looks like the tongue and groove planks that bunnings sell.
I used it to do the ceiling at the redoubt.
Possibly Queensland maple from that small sample. But there are other possibilities.

Really? You’re probably right, but i’m surprised that i didn’t pick it as that, because i’ve used that type of timber before.
I really am a dud at it.

I suppose i could just phone the outfit i bought it from. Might do that tomorrow.

Could be mountain ash (Tas oak) or various other woods :)
I’d have to see it in real life to give a better answer.

Yes, i didn’t really hold much hope of a positive identification from my crappy photo.
I’ll investigate at this end, and update as soon as i know.

The different woods make a different sound when you wack it hard on your head, best way to identify them.
Mountain Ash makes a theuunk sound

No good. My skull’s so thick that neither sound nor knowledge penetrates easily.

They have different fragrance when burning too. So, to be sure, light it up before whacking someone with it…

No.
I loathe plywood, except where it’s particular properties are of value.

Uh uh.
I loathe, hate and detest cardboard (eg. Ikea stuff, interior doors).
Hate and loathe particle board (eg. cheap bookcases).
Loathe Masonite.
And merely dislike plywood slightly.

bamboo is the new black
I found a pic of the wall panelling while it was in place:

Anyone like to guess on that clue?
