Reddit is a popular website where the users vote on the content, moving the “best” content to the front page, and the worst is voted down to oblivion. It’s a way of self moderation and keeps the content fresh.
Sometimes the site managers try something new. Occasionally they set up a blank space where every registered user that has been on the site for over a year can place a pixel on the blank space, but you must wait a while(5 mins?) before you can place another. The rules are as follows“There is an empty canvas. You may place a pixel upon it, but you must wait to place another. Individually you can create something. Together you can create something more.”
It is a fascinating concept which sees users all over the world either creating things, or trying to remove things, just vandalising it, or playing with it. The time lapse gifs are quite interesting. It’s obvious that there are a lot of very large online communities that organise themselves to draw something specific, and then they have to maintain that drawing while other people place spots all over it.
This year it has new areas open up partway through, the CEO of Reddit (Spez) has made himself very unpopular, and Putin has blocked Reddit so no Russians this year.
Some funny things which pop up are the Canadians trying to draw a Canada flag, while various people try to change their country name to Banana, the usual childish stuff like guys trying to draw nipples on the female cartoons, the French and Germans trying to overwrite each others flags, and lots of memes and pop culture drawings.
This is it currently, you can zoom in and look around.
In 2017 I assisted with building Australias representation, even though it was a bit rude.

It’s currently on day three, and will likely end soon.
