All out

England got two narrow wins, Australia got two narrow wins and there was one draw in which Australia was saved from a huge defeat only by the rain, so all up you’d say England was the better side.

In every test this series the winner of the toss sent the other team into bat
This resulted in the team winning the toss losing three games and drawing one with just one win.
I don’t know who said this, “if you win the toss bat or think about it for a while and then bat”.
Possibly Ian Chappel.

Possibly Ian Chappel.

I think he was saying that about Australia.

But anyways, I’m pretty sure the Poms won the toss and batted in the first test. The fifth test was the first winning toss for Aus.

I think the teams were evenly matched for the first two tests. But after that the inclusion of Wood and Woakes for England and the injury to Lyon for Aus shifted the balance to favour England being the stronger team. Realistically they made some mistakes in the first two tests that cost them the series, the over aggressive batting and declaration.

I rather missed the news that West Indies missed out on qualifying for this year’s Cricket World Cup.

In the qualifier they lost to Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and Scotland. It’s a sad state of affairs but yeah they don’t deserve to be at the CWC.

The ten teams at the cup will be Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Afghanistan.
