The Luna-25 probe, Russia’s first Moon mission in almost 50 years, has crashed on the Earth’s natural satellite after an unspecified incident during pre-landing maneuvers, the Russian space agency Roscosmos said Sunday.

The crash comes almost a year and a half into Russia’s Ukraine offensive that has seen Moscow isolated, with punishing sanctions that have affected its space industry.

The failed mission comes as several companies and nations have entered a Moon race, and put a spotlight on the Russian space sector’s troubles — from corruption to lack of innovation and partnerships.

Communication with Luna-25 was lost at 2:57 p.m. (11:57 GMT) on Saturday, Roscosmos said.

According to preliminary findings, the lander “has ceased to exist following a collision with the Moon’s surface.”

Yeah but it was successful right up to the point where it failed spectacularly

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08-22/russia-declares-the-race-has-begun-for-moons-resources/102757808

The race to explore and develop the moon’s resources has begun and Russia must remain a player despite the failure of its first lunar mission in 47 years, according to the head of Russia’s space agency following landing failure. “This is not just about the prestige of the country and the achievement of some geopolitical goals. This is about ensuring defensive capabilities and achieving technological sovereignty,” he said in his first public comments after the aborted mission. “Today it is also of a practical value because, of course, the race for the development of the natural resources of the moon has begun. And in the future, the moon will become a platform for deep space exploration, an ideal platform.”

Russia has said it will launch further lunar missions and then explore the possibility of a joint Russian-China crewed mission and even a lunar base.

Looks like them moon landings are getting cheaper to fake¡

It would also boost India’s reputation for cost-competitive space engineering. The Chandrayaan-3 was launched with a budget of about 6.15 billion rupees ($115.37 million) — less than the cost to produce the 2013 Hollywood space thriller Gravity.

When it comes to Russian projects, you can never under-estimate the effects of corruption, corner-cutting, budget reductions, schedule-pressure, political interference, and sheer, unadulterated shoulder-shrugging don’t-give-a-shitness.

They reckon everything is done half arsed with lots of corruption in the mix so who knows what the quality of the builds are.

Funny how the yanks relied on the russians to get them to the ISS for years – but we live in strange times where inconvenient events disappear within hours.

At any rate the russians are still moving westwards – yes really. Latest uko casualties 400 – 500,000 dead more wounded. Many / all the Leopard tanks are destroyed. Go out on the internet and you’ll see footage of armoured columns being destroyed

Slow, methodical, incremental advances.

No-one ever claimed that they were indestructible.

No army ever finished a war with all of the equipment that it was issued.

They’re much better tanks than Russian tanks, much less vulnerable, and harder to destroy, but, yes, they can be destroyed.

They’re also crewed by people who actually believe in what they’re there for, and not motivated by ideas of conquest and loot.

Odd that Sputnik, a Russian state-owned news agency and radio broadcast service, is describing it as ‘murder’.

Given that the man was fighting on the side of Ukraine, against Russian forces, it seems rather obvious as to who might be motivated to murder him, with the very much longer odds being on the Ukrainians.

Yet, Sputnik is calling it ‘murder’ rather than e.g. ‘execution’.

Not so surprising is that it’s on the Sputnik Africa page. Africa is a popular tool in the realm of disinformation, used by all sides.

You cook up a story, distribute it among African media, who repeat it, from where it gets picked up by Reuters and other news services and distributed more widely, with the tag of Reuters, AFP, AP, whatever, giving it a greater degree of credibility.

Been going on for decades.

In other news ( assuming you don’t know)

The ukos have lost 400,000 plus dead ( presumably 4 to 5 times that wounded). I suspect it’s much higher.

The bear is on the move. The chess pieces are moving again. Pressure is back on the front as they are back moving westwards. Iskander missiles have been pulled from Belarus back into Russia along with Russian fighter jets – its presumed this is to avoid a surprise attack of NATO on the airbases in Belarus.

Airstrikes across ukraine happen daily, attacks have become more drone based than missile based recently. NATO is shipping more depleted uranium into the war zone. Russia seems to be looking to North Korea for support

Potential outcomes: – once things get going you might well have a few thousand north Korean artillery pieces firing 60,000 a day on top of the Russian artillery. ? Far horizon – china sends 500,000 troops on rotation with their industry ramping up – defeat NATO in Europe to keep China safe at home. A Chinese back war in ukraine would keep the chinese economy going. Imagine 10,000 drone strikes a day.

Romania has back tracked and demands Russia get out of ukraine because of evidence of Russian missile fragments in romania. The ukos could launch a false flag and get NATO involved. NATO is having a massive military exercise in the east.

War brewing in Armenia again.
