Superfetation Twins

kii says: I have questions.

OCDC says: I may have answers.

“After passing routine health checks and getting what she thought was her period, Sandra started an IVF cycle without realising she had already fallen pregnant.”

1. Early days of the 1st pregnancy, but why didn’t the routine tests show this?

“So she’s managed to get herself pregnant spontaneously with really no supporting hormones, then the IVF embryo stuck at the same time.”

2. No question, but I’d like to smack the doctor who used this type of language. Possibly taken out of context, but…meh.

3. The fertility treatment prior to the IVF procedure – any possible long term impact on baby Poppy?

4. Implanting the IVF bubba could it have caused the natural pregnancy to miscarry?

5. Storing the sperm prior to cancer treatment is done because infertility may occur in the male? (I could probably Google that one, but I can’t be bothered.)

Arts said: really I’d say that the natural pregnancy possibly helped the IVF implant because everything was ready and hormones were good etc..

kii said: I hadn’t considered that. It’s an amazing story.

while OCDC is more of an expert I can have a go from experience.

1. Early days of the 1st pregnancy, but why didn’t the routine tests show this?

from memory we begin the hormones 14 days prior to implantation (It could be 7, it was a while ago). Bloods would show levels of hormones elevate but they would put this down to the hormones you are injecting to prep the body for implantation.

3. The fertility treatment prior to the IVF procedure – any possible long term impact on baby Poppy?

I doubt it, since they are pregnancy mimicking hormones anyway…

4. Implanting the IVF bubba could it have caused the natural pregnancy to miscarry?

this depends on what procedure they used for reimplantation. I guess the possibility is always there, but for whatever reasons this time nothing happened… not unlike the way some women still get pregnant with an IUD

5. Storing the sperm prior to cancer treatment is done because infertility may occur in the male? (I could probably Google that one, but I can’t be bothered.)

as I understand it, yes
