Shit eh
He played well in some good quality productions including The Singing Detective.
I first saw him in Nothing but the Night, an interesting British horror outing from 1973.

Bugger.
Dumbledore’s magic wasn’t strong enough to fight off the deatheaters.

He is forever “The Singing Detective” for me.
Vale Sir Michael Gambon.
He was very good in “Turtle Diary” (viewable on Youtube)

Was he the one that “Gambon corner” was named after?
If the answer is “no” then I was just kidding.

Yes. He was the host of Top Gear. As part of the show, they had a segment called “Star in a reasonably price car”, which as the name suggests means getting a celebrity to do a racing lap of their track in an ordinary road car. Gambon was one of them in the early days of the show )early 2000s). He almost flipped the car at the last bend, so they named the corner after his little incident.

Jeremy probably needed to change his pants after that.

No. Jeremy was not in the car, Gambon was alone in the car, driving. Jeremy was just the host who interviewed him after the event. If anything it was Gambom who needed a change of underpants.
