I cant believe it has been 6 years since Arts, Boris and myself did this.We even invited the local cops around to supervise…. They didn’t front up.

But for proper SCIENCE did you quantify the factors affecting the time to rupture¿

How long did it take to collect the pingpong balls?
The kids scooped them up in minutes. Some were very badly wounded, others not so much. Arts kept the left overs for various arty things, but actually there were more than 2000. The sports mob that supplied them did it at cost because it was for educational purposes. When asked by the primary school if we had all insurance in place, we said yes all is good…… we told a fib.
BTW, when I said some were badly wounded. I was talking about the ping pong balls. not the kids.

Thanx for clearing that up (although I’d assumed as much)
but the “picking up all them ping pong balls” was my first thought
…and I was thinking you hadn’t mentioned that it hadn’t done those
bins much good either (gooonya for stepping back from the explosion).
…but all in all;
it was fun and a success
if it sparked the wonder & curiosity
of science for those newly forming little people
GOOD JOB!
0l’ mate the kids loved it. so did the teachers & parents. We also froze & shattered there most hated vegetables. ;-)
Excellent.. blowing shit up for fun and territorial gain…
BTW. Who is the WAlien who plays with big Tesla coils?
Doctor Peter Terren aka Tesla Down Under. A good mate.
Ian. Arts went down there some years ago for one of his science nights connected to UWA. if you need photos.

A bright guy..

indeed. Really easy man to talk to as well. I am sure you are old enough to remember the Star Wars Project’ Well when the yanks shit caned it, he bought the capacitors (i have one in my shed) He uses the others to explode watermellons.
It was a fine display.
Thanks Bubblecar. BTW the capacitors are made by Maxwell Labs. They specialise in making caps that can stand the ripple affect caused by AC. The ones that I used for my Tesla Coil didn’t stuff about with the warning lable… They just warned they’d be leathal. :-)

So did I just watching it now. I had no idea you did that sort of stuff. Mrs m said it looks just like our local primary school.
Thanks to Arts talking & leading all the kids through it. No one got frightened by it. There is some stuff you don’t see on camera. Like kids freezing and shattering their most hated veggies. It was epic. ;-)

and a good time was had by all. :)
Roughy, one of the more weird experiments that where not seen was freezing out liquid oxygen… It’s blue in colour. I shit you not. Apparently it’s to do with the fact that in nature it is not present as an element but as a molecule represented as not O but O2. 25 litres of liquid Nitrogen gave us a lot of fun. BTW you can draw it up the side of a file with a magnet.
