As an insecticide or as a deterrent?
Well short of spraying it on the fruit fly it isn’t going to kill it.. so what was her reasoning? did she believe it made the fruit unattractive to the fruit fly? This latter is probably more likely than the former.roughbarked said:

The standard bait being used in containers is the orange juice/bleach combination or yeast and bleach. (vegemite can be substituted for yeast).
Yates make a fruit fly bait with spinosad as the contact insecticide.
Also there is the older version of any of the above baits mixed with malathon. Then there is Naturelure which also contains spinosad.bubba louie said:
