My pumpkin is only throwing out male flowers. Does this mean it is gay??????
I have had the plant in since October….
so if its not gay….does this mean
Its anti female?
Male phobic?
Screwing with my mind?
Or just shy in bed???????

anti-female most likely. Our pumikin required the delicate touch of her indoors to procreate successfully this year…

Crikey. Bloke does the boogooloo for a few days and the duckwoman has lost it.
Your poofter pumpkin needs to have it’s growth tips ripped off. That’s right. Rip its tips off.
It’ll encourage more female flowers.
However, the season is a cracker. Your pumpkin thinks it can live forever.
Why bother with sheilas if you could live forever right!
I like to plant them late, they don’t get so big, and they produce females quickly.
Poofter pumpkins. Strewth..
Shy in bed…
:D
When I had this problem some years ago, the general consensus agreed with PM’s advice as above: take the tips off…

I had forgotten to say the pumpkin has been circumcised by not only me but the ducks as well, if the tips get too close to the fence…….
I was wondering if I put the plant in too early…..

I had the same prob with my spaghetti squash plant, but all fem flowers and no males. Then yesty I spotted a lone male flower so I fertilized the fems by hand with a lil paintbrush. It’s growing gangbusters on the back fence trellis.

Pumpkin tips are quite tasty.
I’ve got a volunteer pumpkin come up in feral corner. No way am I going in there to try and pollinate it.

I suppose it matters where you live but my grandparents taught me to never bother planting a pumkin before the 1st Jan.
It isn’t uncommon for all cucurbits to flower more males at first.False alarm….he’s as randy as anything….I fell over in the jungle, tipping the empty bird path with me. Nearly crushed a pumpkin. Think I found 3 or was that 4 in my delirium trying to get out…………………. also a zucchini 3 almost ripe tomatoes and a pile of beans….778 grams for today’s harvest.
off to have a shower to wash the jungle off me.
Oh yeah, no wonder Jane wasn’t in a skirt for long….climbing with the skirt hem up around the waist isn’t a good look. Thankfully the plants were up to and past my boobs…..lol

On the TV just now that some things will go up by as much as 4 times and stay that way for months.
It’s just starting to trickle through now because farmers are starting to assess the damage.

This was due to happen for other reasons than just flood.
Floods both exacerbate production losses and assist production increases, at least in Australia.

yeah but one look at Broms and one thinks “this could be tricky”, one look at a pumikin vine and one thinks “alright, pumikin soup coming right up!”
Try a pair of welding gloves the next time you tackle your Broms Bubba, you’ll get forearm protection.

Am I to understand that if the pumpkins develop without fertilization, they will rot? I used to lose a lot of little pumpkins on Sonny Joe’s vine to this…

pinching off the growing tip and watering with seaweed or liquid potash works sometimes. it stops the plant growing and starts it fruiting.

these are my japs and rock melons. they were planted in about november and are just beginning to flower now. i have plenty of space – and when the winter rains come in march to may i will harvest them.
no action needed.
lucky planted hers earlier i think and has more fertile soil and has had more flowering and some fruit set. her space is not unlimited and if she waits til march her whole back garden could be under pumpkin rule.
you might be more like me VG – if you’ve got room just let them spread and take no action. your climate and planting times would be different to mine so it’s your decision.

My butternuts did this, even after I hand pollinated them. My dad reckoned there might have been something missing from the soil. Oh well – they came up from compost so I wasn’t too fussed. They’ve died off from the heat now, I didn’t have the energy to water in between retic days.
