I call myself a non-political person.
So when I was asked who were Australia’s best and worst women politicians past, present and future I was a bit flummoxed. And thought of the forum.
Any opinions on:
Cheryl Kernot
Penny Wong
Amanda Vanstone
Pauline Hanson
Bronwyn Bishop
Tanya Plibersek
Lidia Thorpe
others?

I was never able to make up my mind about Amanda Vanstone.
My personal opinion is that Penny and Tanya would both have made better prime ministers than Albanese. I didn’t vote for Albanese – intelligence of a guinea pig.
What about other Australian women politicians? Jackie Lambie is the only one I can think of.
> Why would you call yourself a non-political person? Seems disingenuous.
Thank you. Uh, what does disingenuous mean?
I call myself non-political because:
- I vote for policies not people.
- I have no interest in political football.
- I hear as little about politics as I possibly can.
- I don’t know the names of any state premiers, and haven’t cared since the days of Dunstan, Wran, Kennett and Bjelke-.
- I have an inherent dislike for all political activism, no matter what the topic.
- I believe that the country would run more smoothly without any politicians.

Penny Wong : chinese intelligence asset
Amanda Vanstone: rubber stamps an Italian Mafia boss into Australia after 100,000 is deposited into a liberal party election campaign. The AFP strangely finds nothing wrong with this. The Italian police contacted them warning them – just like the Iranian police warned the AFP about the chocolate shop terrorist.
Pauline Hanson : a truly fragrant breath of fresh air in a stagnant and corrupt political system. Inspirational.
Bronwyn Bishop: bronny copter.
Tanya Plibersek: mean girl/ political hack that’s part and parcel of labor policy.
Lidia Thorpe: needs professional help / part time bike Moll
Julie Bishop : codename “Skeletor”, enjoys the limelight of being a woman in politics and breaking glass ceilings. Can’t hold on to a man.
Julia ex PM: never elected , was shoe horned into the position. Funny ears. Political highlight: losing her shoe.

Given Moll’s complete ignorance of politics, history etc I find myself questioning whether the science he posts is equally suspect of being just stuff that he has made up. Unfortunately I cannot judge alone whether the hard science he promulgates is wrong but I have my suspicions based on his posts on COVID science which have been plainly erroneous.

IIRC, his job at CSIRO was (in part) to have outlandish ideas, somewhat modelled on the regular Daedalus column in Nature. Others would determine whether or not those ideas would be researched.

If you want ‘improbable inventions’, just browse through all of the old issues of ‘Popular Science’:
https://books.google.co.uk/books/serial/ISSN:01617370?rview=1
There’s pages and pages of them, going back over 100 years.
In just about every issue you’ll find:
- news of some new invention which we now find commonplace
- some idea for an invention which eventually came to pass some years later
- some really wacky concept for some form of transportation which even the fictional boy-science wonder Tom Swift would have thought most improbable.

The Wikipedia link is well worth a read.
I know him from his back page articles in New Scientist, many years ago, which were full of pure genius, every one.
Sadly his replacement at NS, although occasionally amusing, is no match.

I had grave misgivings about Gillard’s election-eve replacement of Rudd. I think he would have won the election, and the swap was bad for the Labor brand. Nonetheless Gillard was a very capable prime minister, achieving more in a single term than anyone since Whitlam, despite dealing with a minority government.
