I have just had a great couple of hours with Yeehah during her visit (once she finally arrived). She was caught up in bumper to bumber traffic holiday traffic for a couple of hours. First things first, after she arrived, was a walk around our weedy vegie patch until the rain and hunger forced us inside.

We yacked and yacked as if we had known each other for years, rather than just a couple of months through cyber space. Really enjoyed it. MrS didn’t get a word in edgewise (but then again he’s a bit bemused by all this forum stuff). LOL

Bluddy rain is following me, buggerdammit! On the bright side, we’re not searing in the usual summer heat.

Canberra leg of the journey

Took a while to get going this morning. Lovely day for dragging the kids around the War Memorial here in the ACT – forecast top of 22oC although it felt warmer mid-afternoon.

Buying lunch turned into a shopping excursion so we didn’t get to Old Parliament House (there’s a museum in there now) today and probably won’t get there this trip. Took the kids to a fantastic park this afternoon – 2 flying foxes, big slippery dips set into the sides of hills, great climbing frames, 4- or 5-meter tall swings. Got some great photos of all the kids for their twenty-firsts :)

The kids are communing over technology atm … 13yo boy cousin got an iPod touch for Christmas too, 11yo girl cousin got a new mp3 player. The “study” here has four corners, conveniently – one for mum’s computer, one for dad’s, one for son’s and one for daughter’s. The modern family!!! Seems I’m depriving the boy of far too much – not that he’d dare say so!!!

Hopefully tonight we’ll drive up to Black Mountain Tower for a look at the pretty lights … but I’d better not have another one of those icy slushie vodka things out of the freezer that sister isn’t fond of (but she can’t bear to toss out, how dreadful!) … unless she volunteers to be the designated driver.

Tomorrow Questacon at 9am sharp – I’m taking the 3 kids, my sister is kindly letting me have the pleasure of stealing her two (they’re well behaved so will be lovely).

Afternoon indoor swim centre.

I think I need a week here by myself so I can walk slowly around all the museums, art galleries, etc., without having “I’m bored/hungry/tired, what are we doing next?” ruling my decisions.

Just picking a couple of tourist-y things. I insisted on the War Memorial – dunno if it’ll have any effect on the 13yo’s psyche but one can only hope.

Saw a couple of interesting short movie-style presentations in the museum-y part of the war memorial, and had some info of my own to add that seemed to make the kids stop and think. I find it very moving myself, but they’re to young to really get it.

GTG!

Ta much, we plan to.

The boy is collecting his gear, I’ve got his toothbrush to pack, we’ll be gone in a sec. Slept in instead of getting up early to squeeze in another tourist destination so today will be just driving.

Will be sleeping at BG’s tonight all being well – expecting 39-40oC temps for next couple of days. My sister tried to get us to stay safe in her aircon for an extra coupla days … but I’ve got a job to get back to and a list of people and places to see :)

Cyas.

Do it out here to the trucks, Most wave to me, and then people we know, or if mums in the car dad and myself wave to every car that goes past just to annoy her.

Younger Son and I arrived at Bluegreen’s late in the afternoon. He is asleep atm, I’m having a wide-awake attack – I’m stuffed from driving after too many late nights at my sister’s place so of course being wide awake at 1am makes sense – not! – lol.

BG’s pet rat has got me thinking about a possible pet for the youngster – toying with the idea, but not sure ;)

The lad will eat just about any kind of chocolate ;)

He didn’t eat much dinner for two reasons – Thee leaving an unguarded packet of TimTams was the first, HP’s daughter stressing the deliciousnessnessness of the chocky cake for dessert was the second. The poor boy had to leave room for that!

That dreadful HP is being horrible to the littlefella and me, lol!

We were going to leave this morning but Mr HP & HP offered to come with us to Werribee Mansion rose garden. So I took squillions of photos and it was lunchtime, so of course we had to come back to their house and let HP copy photos onto her computer and eat leftovers of risotto and cake.

I’m wondering now if we’re ever going to leave (mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!) … largely because “the boys” i.e. Mr HP and the littlefella, have started watching a dvd together …

(Littlefella wants to come back here next school holidays and hang out with his new best friend!)

Help!

:D

Help!

:D

Hehehe, how lovely :) I love how the internet brings people together :)

Hubby and littlefella are besties now, despite the huge height and age difference, and the sweet littltlefella bought Mr HP a gift. It’s a lightening ball, you touch it to make lightening..you know ,boys toy thing.

Have put my address and HP’s address in a distance calculator … turns out we’re about 1500km from home (by road).

Won’t be ducking down for a weekend soon (although Mr HP reckons when he wins the lotto he’ll get hisself a hellingchopper and a licence and duck up to collect us … can’t bring HP to me because she doesn’t like heights).

Right.

Cousin Julie at Kyneton next stop, there till Friday.

No more GA folk to visit this trip … a friend from high school lives with hubby & four kids in Dubbo so will stop there on the way home and look at the aminals in the Western Plains Zoo.

Unless someone here lives halfway between Kyneton and Dubbo (Narrandera looks like a good place to stop) … ?

Adieu :)

Mine’s an asparagus meyeri. Can be invasive.. but tough and looks good in a big pot. That one in the pic is very old and I will discard it after a while longer. I potted up a pup from it.

13yo Littlefella is bonding with his 12yo second cousin. They slept in the poptop campervan (in the driveway of the house) as my cousin has another guest in the spare room. I’m in 12yo’s bed!

Will have to put a bomb under the kids soon. Bet the“go to sleep, it’s late” instructions at 11pm were not adhered to!

My cousin has to go in to Melbourne to work tomorrow so I’m stealing her son and taking both boys to Sovereign Hill. We’ll just be swanning around Kyneton today.

All lovely and laid back, just like this whole trip away has been. Been having a brilliant time :)

(Hey HP, cousin Julie says she’s never had a diagnosis but her 12yo displays lots of Asperger’s Syndrome behaviours/traits and she thinks he’d be borderline if she had him assessed. I maintain the AS comes through my dad, who is her uncle, and we were also discussing other family members that she knows well but I don’t, and now I’m convinced that it’s genetic!)

Glad youse are having a brilliant time. Hubby misses his new mate already and is still blown away by the lightening ball gift, it’s keeping him occupied LOL :D

Yes, aspergers is genetic. And becoming more common through correct diagnosis.

Haven’t had to use the tent yet because our free accommodation to date has been in friends’ spare rooms or loungerooms.

And my bad back is glad of that (prefers real mattresses). And Fri and Sat look like being mid-30s temperature wise, which means the lack of air-con in the tent could prevent me having a good night’s sleep.

And despite the fact that I’m travelling far and wide, on the inside I’m not very brave at all. I feel safer inside walls!

Bloody Nora, I’ve been reading posts on and off for an hour and still 100 posts behind. Torturously slow on the phone. Need to go find food. We’ve got a room in Narrandera. Dubbo tomorrow. Have seen ads for the local news saying that there’s an Elvis Festival in Parkes this weekend. Might have to do some research in a bit and decide how hard it will be to expose the boy to some culture ;)

Heading home tomorrow.

Yesterday skipped the Elvis festival in Parkes, the crowds and traffic were a bit daunting, so we headed through to the Radio Telescope “the Dish”, we both really enjoyed that.

Dubbo Zoo today in up to 38.5oC temperatures (according to the car thermometer), so we didn’t take as long as we could have!

Had a swim again this afternoon (my friend Melissa’s house came with a pool!). Her kids are shy so Littlefella hasn’t really struck up a friendship here.

Home tomorrow, but will be a long day as we have several stops to make. I expect to get home just before dark. Tuesday is unpacking, washing, etc. Work Wednesday.

Has been a lovely trip but the highlights have been meeting forumfolk along the way :)

Got home safely last night. Dropped the phantasztic phone off at the Optus shop on the way through. The smashed screen needs to be sent away for repair, but first they need to ring me with a quote for the cost of repairs. Not looking forward to that call!!

I have a “loaner” phone that’s a few steps back from mine, so I won’t have access to the internet outside of work hours, so I’ll probably go silent on the forum for a bit. I’m at the library atm while the youngster watches dvds at home.

Left 38oC heat and clear skies in Dubbo yesterday and came home to bucketing rain (although nothing on what Queensland is having). Radio news this morning said that we had 72mm overnight and more to come.

I’ve used up my half hour allotted time at the library, so I’ll be the next person asked to leave when someone comes in to use the computers.

Thanks all for the great holiday the lad and I had, will remember it all for a long, long time :)
