Just for fun…………….

I’d have a donkey…….
I could use it for going to and fro from the stupidmarket and save on fuel and help the environment. I could also park him/her in the handicap area as he/she doesn’t have a motor under the hood.

I could use the manure in my compost bins.

Make a donkey feel needed and useful.

Hug it and make me feel all gooey.

If Christmas lunch is at my place…………………….

Make self scented arseholes think of others and not just themselves, ……….be more considerate of your own self worth and give your own selfish thoughts to others, look beyond your own home and look into othes that may be less fortunate than your own….

I am SURE I have more :)

New Zealands mountain range along our west coast.
Dirty big river gorges, snow fed, flowing out of them and carving through the centre of australia.

…and a bit less rain up north

What about Daisy the house cow? And enough land to keep all these animals in a suitable style?

A new set of lungs for the Elf would be lovely too, i’d guess (seeing as we’re wishful thinking). I’ll request some for the asthmatic 13yo too.

I just want the matrimonial house sold. The rest I can deal with.

That’d stuff up The Top End good and proper.

Never ending Wet Season runnoff = good prawns/mullet & therefore good Barra

Down south……

Wet winters, warm (not too hot) Spring/Summers = Good Dun Hatches and therefore good Trout.

sounds like a very achievable goal there veg. First step is to book yourself onto the waiting list for the op eh?

Well I have to say the obligatory health – although rather than leaving that up to chance I’ve got a pretty good plan this time :)

And of course… sodding RAIN. Even half full dams would seem like an enormous amount of water. Full dams seems unimaginable.

And then I could say a new house, but that’s all planned out too.

Depends on when the Specialist things I should be going in for it.
Resume is in for the New Career.
truck Lience will be sat for on the 3rd or the 4th of Feb 2011.
Skidsteer ticket will be first, and a few will come out of the New Trainee ship if i get it.

I do know I have a good work opportunity happening in France in a few months time and this will be different people then I usually work with, so an ideal opportunity to impress… In 2011, I hope to sort out this thing that renders me a cripple from time to time which I once blamed on harmless sea urchins from Bougainville. Well, I was misdiagnosed, took some drugs that made things a whole load worse, and now have given blood and taken xrays. Won’t be long before someone demands flesh for a microscope. Thanks AnneS, the good news is up here at JCU there is a unit that deals with these kind of souvenirs from places like PNG, so I could be in good hands if required… might go get some more drugs next week.

I also wish they would stop giving the arsonists over here a slap on the wrist and give em a GOOD jail term….something to make them really think about what they’ve done.

You know, I wish I had the sort of memory that retains historical weather. I looked it up – we got 40.4mm in March, after 0 and 0.2 for Jan and Feb :D

Thanks PM :)

I am actually remarkably healthy at the moment, particularly on the outside! My posture has never been better, my shoulders don’t ache any more, my weight has stabilised, I have walking-fast fitness level (which is as high as I’ve ever been), and I have probably better muscle mass than ever before. Still a few things to work on, but I’ll get there :)

Youch.. I hope the new doc works out. It sucks the way you often have to keep going from doctor to doctor and doing a lot of the diagnosis yourself – but it seems to be one of those universal facts of life.

Parasite… nice one, yeah, its a tropical bastard that maybe entered the painmaster during a barefoot and bleeding wander through fecal Bougainville villages while busted up from reef and urchin. the new drugs are alright although some of the guys returning from Borneo or Bougainville during WW2 wished that perhaps they got a gobfull earlier. Not flesh eating…. yet.

Souvenir anyone? And yet some were hoping I’d survive PNG without contacting malaria or dengue…

2011 eh? Dare I ask for stability? This is the longest I have lived in Townsville, and I hope to be here in 1 year time. I have my ideas on what it is, and I have found a pretty good doctor… well she tells me she is. So I’ll just plod along and see where this 2011 takes me… Bon voyage!

Nothing too gruesome I hope. Some flesh eating parasite maybe??????????????

Parasite… nice one, yeah, its a tropical bastard that maybe entered the painmaster during a barefoot and bleeding wander through fecal Bougainville villages while busted up from reef and urchin. the new drugs are alright although some of the guys returning from Borneo or Bougainville during WW2 wished that perhaps they got a gobfull earlier. Not flesh eating…. yet.

Souvenir anyone? And yet some were hoping I’d survive PNG without contacting malaria or dengue…

You’re in the right town for treatment, the local uni and l’hopital specialize in tropical maladies…

for whaling to stop

Now you’ve made us all feel selfish and guilty. :P

well if I could be more realistic, I would wish for an improved financial situation for hubby and I in 2011.
Courtesy of an expected inheritance not showing up (on a caveat because of the rats emerging from the shadows wanting a claim in it) we are going down the gurgler. We were never flush, mainly because of GS antics, but now it’s getting stupid and getting back into the black is getting further from sight. And as we all know, bills just keep going skyward.

There’s talk of the docks going on strike in a few weeks…their claims are valid and they are right, the work situation must improve. But we hope it’s resolved before a stop work happens.
We’re happy and healthy enough, we have each other and our beautiful kids. But I fear to think what will happen should we not be paid for a few weeks.

Ditto.

Thanks all. His lack of weight gain is the main worry at the moment. He’s just turned 12 weeks old and in that time has only gone from 3.45kg to just over 4kg. Ideally he should put on a minimum of 160gms per work, but some weeks he has lost weight. For the last 2 weeks he has put on 100gms and 130gms respectively. Hope that this trend will improve. Also wish the gastric reflux would settle too. :(

Gastric reflux … oh joyful memories NOT!

Both my boys had it, and different dads so it musta been my fault!

Older son was a screamer, had to express breastmilk and mix with Infant Gaviscon, suck it up into a syringe and give to him before every feed (try that every 2 hrs when the poor babbie is screaming with hunger and a burning belly) the theory being that then when he fed the breastmilk would hit the stuff already in his stomach and thicken enough to not come back up. And then when it inevitably did, syringe Infant Mylanta into him to stop the burning. All the while being told that if I put him on the bottle it might help but no guarantees.

Younger Son was a chucker with the gastric reflux, but not a screamer, so didn’t have to do all the medication. He has a bifid uvula, though, so would regularly vomit out of one nostril as well as the usual outlet.

Both babies were major league vomiters – you know the old-fashioned “ma-ma” dolls that spoke when they sat up? Mine spoke volumes of milk when they sat up! People who asked to hold the baby were given “sick nappies” to drape themselves with.

On the plus side, 6 months was the miracle age. Once they were able to sit up unaided that defective valve matured and held things down.

Yep, would love my 18yo body back, but not if it meant going back to the start with babies!!!

to add a little more detail, I didn’t really step on the Urchin, I got tossed around in the ocean on spin-cycle and was dragged a few times across a low coral shelf… kinda like a cheese grater, and it was during this moment that I lost a lot of skin and blood and was jabbed by numerous sea-urchins. Well I climbed out of the ocean and wandered back across town with my bleeding and tattered body in tow. It made quite a sight, watching a tall bloody white guy amongst all the black-skins of Buka. It was here that I certainly walked through a few strips of water (flowing from village to sea) and possibly where I picked up the parasite.

Then I was misdiagnosed last year with something totally un-related to urchins or parasites, and was given medication to which I reacted to. It was this reaction that lead to a new doctor who wanted to hear the full story (unlike the other clown).

Hopefully 2011 will be the year that we finally clear it all up!

Lordy, I didn’t have the urinary tract stuff to deal with and I just looked up laryngomalacia, had never heard of that, but who knows, maybe that was chucked in as an undiagnosed freebie :P All I remember is exhaustion and just coping.

All the best to daughter and her other half. The baby will pull through as long as the adults around him stay sane.

That’s (sort of) the silver lining. We can still use the shower and the washing machine when the sewerage pipe is blocked. In the old days though, before we had the greywater system, occasionally we could unblock the sewerage line by having a shower – I suppose the large weight of water just pushed the blockage through. Can’t really do that anymore so it’s a plumber callout every time.

It only got snaked a week or two before Christmas – can’t believe the roots would block it again so quickly =/ If it happens again I may give up on holding out until demolition, and poison the hibiscus. Except we don’t know for sure which tree it is.

the roots won’t be back that quickly… you may have some internal damage to which small bits of paper and shite can get caught on, which then causes the blockage…

try the garden hose on high pressure next time???

It only got snaked a week or two before Christmas – can’t believe the roots would block it again so quickly =/ If it happens again I may give up on holding out until demolition, and poison the hibiscus. Except we don’t know for sure which tree it is.

Might be worth sending a camera up there, What are they using the electric eel? we had another thing when i was Plumbing used a High pressure system up the pipe to bloke it out (also found any holes in the PVC piping.

That’s (sort of) the silver lining. We can still use the shower and the washing machine when the sewerage pipe is blocked. the roots won’t be back that quickly… you may have some internal damage to which small bits of paper and shite can get caught on, which then causes the blockage…

try the garden hose on high pressure next time???

Pm beat me to it.

Turned out to be a different lot of roots – which is the third of fourth we’ve found so far sigh Still, he snaked over in the direction of the neighbour’s and all through our pipe, so it’s all clear now. Praying to the deities of plumbing that it’ll stay clear until we demolish.. combined with the callout pre-Christmas, that’s $700+ we’ve spent on plumbing in less than a month. PVC piping’d be nice. Ours is ceramic, hence all the roots. Will be getting it replaced with PVC (or a non-PVC plastic if available) when the house is demolished. And funnily enough, I’m not feeling very guilty about demolishing this old (#% anymore..

Yep. This plumber did mention you can get a few more blockages in the sewer line when you have a greywater system (less water flushing through), but I wouldn’t think that would be a big problem with new plastic pipes.

Nah, none of that here. It’s solid tree roots causing the blockages.

Yup. First suspect was a privet (planted way too close to the laundry) – dug that out. Then a lillypilly came out. Now the main contenders are the giant cactus, the fig tree, and the hibiscus (not sure about the jacarandas?), although I suppose it could be any of the citrus trees, too.

The rear Jac probably won’t survive the demolition (nor will the hibiscus, just leaving it in for shade at the moment). I saw on GA that someone recommended going around the fig once a year with a sharp spade and cutting the roots. So I took the spade, put it on the ground, threw my weight on to it… and nothing happened. So that’s another job that’s too difficult for me =/

yeah the only problem with jabbing the roots like that is you only sever those roots that are within a spade-depth of the topsoil.

It’s the ratio of water to, um, non-liquid additions that is the problem. I have heard that the super-low-flush toilets are more prone to blocking. For example in the old-fashioned 11-litre flush toilets you’d have a wee(with or without paper)+11 litres then poo+paper+11 litres every time with occasional showers, baths and handbasin usages. In a low-flush loo imagine a couple of rounds of poo+paper+6 litres in succession – apparently there isn’t enough water in relation to the solids to keep things, um, moving along. Then if you have a greywater system and divert your shower, bath and possibly even handbasin water away from the septic/sewage line, there isn’t that occasional influx of a big lot of water.

Reduce the amount of water going down and even an ordinary amount of all the “right” things can cause problems.

All valid, but no amount of water will help when you’ve got an almost solid wall of roots choking the pipe. I wish I’d thought to take a photo, it was quite impressive (this was right near the rear hatch thingy, so perfectly visible) but it was oh so hot, and I had sunburnt skin to protect, and then it got a bit smelly afterwards, too… :D

Ahhh, I was wondering if the name fig would come up. The others are innocent. If you have a fig, that’s the one. In fact, if you have a fig and it’s in the ground, remove the thing before it becomes a 25m tree!

Oops, little late there with my fig observations. Bon, how big is the hibiscus? You know I hate the idea of killing a plant if it’s unnecessary, they do transplant ok if not too old. I’ve had about a 50:50 success rate with quite large established hibiscus – two lived, two died. Have also had some luck growing them from cuttings. Hibiscus are a bit underrated. Look at any old neglected rental garden in Perth and what do you see thriving on no TLC and no water other than natural rainfall – a couple of hibiscus, an acalypha or two, a camellia in the semi shady spot, an oleander, a couple of callistemons and a straggly looking grevillea!
Is it a nice hibiscus or just the standard pale pink single?

I know they’re tough, that’s why I’ve kept it so far – free greenery. But once the garden shrinks (due to the new house) there just won’t be room. It’s umm.. it’s wide at the base, but at some point has obviously been cut off and just re-shooted. It’s about 3 or 4m tall at the moment I think? But I expect it’s been there for bloody ages.

I think it’s just a standard one – the pale pink one you see all over Bayswater and other old suburbs.

Bon, sounds like your hibiscus is too mature to transplant, any trunk thicker than a forearm and I wouldn’t like its chances.

Ahh, I think at the base it’s way thicker than that. Not that I get in often to have a look. Will have a peek next time I’m passing by.
