“Lucifer” is an entertaining and amusing tv series.
Probably should have put this here.

I wrote a review of that movie when it was released in cinemas.
My mate reviewed films for the student newspaper at NSW Inst. of Tech. He couldn’t schedule a time to see that one, so i went in his stead, and wrote the review for him.

I saw a revue in the Courier Mail for a play.
It was short and to the point, it simply said “It is no good”

I saw a review for the 1981 film ‘Sphinx’.
It said, simply, ‘stinx’.

The reviewer Roger Ebert was never one to hold back.
His opinion of one film was that it was ‘a horrible experience of unbearable length’ (which phrase he later used as a title for one of his books).

“I like to watch” entered the vernacular in this household way back when that movie came out…
Roger Ebert had some weird ideas though. He gave Speed 2 (the famously awful one on the boat ) 3 stars. He gave The Ring (the only horror movie to actually scare me as an adult) 2 stars. He also gave Team America 1 star but I realise that’s a polarising movie. He gave Blue Velvet 1 star.
I too agree that Being There is an A-grade movie. Understated but appropriate performance by Sellers and also a good job by Jack Warden who I’ve always considered underrated.

It probably helped that Sellers supposedly had no personality of his own.

I found Being There a pleasant enough film but it does seem somewhat overrated in the scheme of things.

Odd little film but amusing enough, lots of big names of the time.
But I wonder why she was “Miss Potter” rather than Dr Potter or Professor Potter.

The next one (Not Now, Comrade) was produced by Harold Snoad who was the producer of Hyacinth Bucket, Keeping Up Appearances.

The Simpsons did an excellent parody of it, with (IIRC) Sam Neill as the guest voice.
