Arvo all :)
Having a mad moment.
I looked closer at this garden, mainly ornamental’s , and that wattle tree is actually cracked at the base so it has to come out.
A couple other plant’s you can’t see because they blew right away or bent over under other thing’s…so… I decided I’m going to rip out this entire bed and plant more foody thing’s. I can see columnar ballerina apples…dwarf nectarine and peaches. I have the dwarf lime already so this could go in here too.
I can see an espalier on that side of the shed, but what ?
It’s a hot sunny area. But it would need some building up/ replenishing.
What do you think ? What else would be good?

That’s an idea too, herb border. Thanks Thee :D
The job has started already, the wattle is gone, as are several other shrub’s.
The Lots o Lemon stay’s though.
The cordyline and A. cognata’s will be moved. I only just planted out the potted A . cog’s so I will move them asap. Lot’s to mulch now .

progress update.
The only thing’s left in that bed now is the lemon and the wattle stump, will get that out tomorrow.
I dug it over a bit and lot’s of curl grub’s and snail’s went to the delighted chook’s :)
The pile to be mulched is bigger than shown here, but I had to stop because it’s too dark.

i’m a believer in using deciduous trees to protect windows from the sun. so if thats the hot side of the house i would plant trees to protect the windows. so i would end up with height on the corner which could be a compositional no-no.

also the fences are more beautiful than the shed (which is unusually part of the brick house) – so i would look at getting a creeper to grow over the shed iron.

sorry HP i’ve no idea of the best plants in your climate.

That’s ok Pepper, I like the idea of a creeper over the shed. I was going to put an espellier apricot there , that’s the shed that the front of it will be mosaiced, but there’s a ruddy air conditioner sticking out right in the middle wall of the shed about my head height ( ouch ouch rub’s sore head)
Not sure now, but that shed wall area get’s sun from 10 am till 4 pm ish, so maybe the ballerina apples can go there, planted close together thay could grow as tall as the shed , and the dwarf nectarine nearby.
I preferably want all fruit tree’s. The lime tree can go near the lotsa lemons.

I have re planted everything that was in this bed now , but have to wait for a couple days to get help to get the wattle stump out.
I,m off to the pool with giant son and grandson. Bbl

Oh also Pepper, that shed isn’t attached to the house, there’s a 800 cm gap and it’s behind that , where we will be putting a slimline water tank. One day.
I’ve just piled bag’s of horse poop in the cleared bed, barrow load of soiled chook straw too.

Fruit garden mid progress

The tree stump we had to get out.

Mini lime and ballerina apple tree’s planted in built up part’s.

Dwarf nectarine planted and pot’s in place where dwarf cherry tree’s ,2, will be planted.

Mandarine’s comming along nicely. I had to remove some fruit as some of the branchs were drooping to breaking point with the weight of the fruit.

Lastly, some nicola spuds.

I love that zygo , the colour’s are so pretty, soft and soothing to look at.

It sure will be appreciated Pepper.
We all love granny smith apples and so there will be 2 of those as well. The GS arn’t columnar tho , they are shrub’s so will fit in the middle areas.
On order are 2 cherry tree’s , one black cherry and one white ( for pollination) and a peach tree.
I still have to get in a couple meter’s of soil ( some spare for other areas) and then mulch the whole bed.
I cant wait :D

Yes, they just opened suddenly. I did have this one on the patio where a light was on untill late and it only flowered on the dark side, so I moved it to the fernery where it gets filtered light only, and complete dark all night, now it’s blooms are right around it :)
The fernery is on the east side of my place. Trellis fence extension and shade cloth ect.
Yes it was me who took the samon coloured ones to Thee’s , my salmon ones are about to come into bloom too. There’s another darker pink one I have that comes into bloom much later than the ones atm ..probably another month or so.

good oh. I have mine on the east side hanging from the edge of my front porch. They probablly need to bush up[ a bit more before I get a display like that. Might try cutting some leaf segments in half when they finish flowering, that is supposed to promote branching I think….?

Thanks for the salmon cuttings then, they are doing well :)

I have some of the darker, bright pink ones too that aren’t ready to flower yet.
