The sunken vessel spills fertiliser and oil into the Red Sea, threatening a vibrant fishing industry, some of the world’s largest coral reefs and desalination plants supplying millions with drinking water.

Follow the money.
It’s another case of ‘who’s paying for the bullets?’. Or the anti-ship missiles. It’s not Yemen’s vibrant economy, which is even worse in the Houthi-controlled areas.
Mostly, it’s Iran. It’s another case of Iran’s war by proxy, against ‘the west’ in general, and particularly against the US and its aligned countries.
The Houthis and their stated aims don’t matter at all to the Iranians. They’re just convenient proxies, and if the Houthis were to be all wiped out, they’d shrug and find a new set of puppets.
