Good read too. People rush to help thinking they are doing the right thing.

Pat was saying someone has suggested, send the unemployed to Qld to clean up the mess…… people who have had no experience or training….. that won’t help matters..only make it worse.

I don’t know about the other States, but in Qld the Councils can ask for people who’ve been detained at Her Majesty’s Pleasure to be allowed to come to areas where community work is needed to be done. In the 2008 floods, they came out and assisted with the fencing etc. Up home, there was such a workforce for many years who assisted in the building of such public works as the beautification of the waterholes (Lagoon beside the town and the Dam that holds the town’s water)…they were, in the main, no trouble and both sides understood the rules.

There are quite a few on facebook that are intent on booking tickets and flying up to help.

Just what’s needed! A lot of people arriving out of the blue and going where??????????

And plenty of people from here are encouraging them. Makes no sense to me.

what they should do is register with Volunteers Qld. Then they will get called on if there particular skills are needed. Just turning up is a bad idea.

That’s what I keep telling them. Plus so many people keep saying to take donations to the RNA evac centre. They don’t want them.
I’ve posted so many times but it’s like banging your head on a brick wall. I really think some of the facebook pages are causing more confusion than they’re worth.
