A NS article tells me that people who have a positive attitude towards old people have a better life in old age and live longer.

And not just by a little bit.

So people with a negative attitude to age have to suffer an old age life for less time.

So it’s a win-win.

OK, that could have been better worded.

I do think ageism, in all its forms, is a real problem and not a laughing matter, that doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves.

Considering the discounts & freebies I, as an old person, gets I’m in favour of ageism.

After all those years of struggling to have the money to pay for those things, yes.

Granted. But I don’t think it’s up there with the great problems society must address.

I’m not worried about aging as such.

I’m worried about the loss of strength, agility, flexibility… hair

Exactly, if the problem is not enough young people to upkeep the old people, then adverse ageism will encourage everyone to decrease the old people needing upkeep, so the problem will be solved¡

Exactly, if the problem is too many people consuming resources from the outer layer of earth, then adverse ageism will encourage everyone to decrease the old people consuming resources, so the problem will be solved¡

It’s not a problem, it’s a solution¡

My Mum used to say she likes the company of old ladies because she knows she’ll never get to be very old herself.

And she was right, she died at about the same age I am now.

The older demographic will be the majority workforce participants there is a lot to consider an ageing population, where the majority cannot be ignored and planning for this is essential.

At what age does ageism start to become an issue? And in what form does that prejudice typically take?

About 10.

People are usually pretty positive about kids younger than that.

You have never heard any negative comments based on age?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ageism
“Ageism is a bias against, discrimination towards, or bullying of individuals and groups on the basis of their age, younger or older. The term was coined in 1969 by Robert Neil Butler to describe discrimination against the elderly, patterned on the terminology of sexism and racism. Butler defined ageism as a combination of three connected elements: negative attitudes towards old age and the aging process, discriminatory practices against older people, and institutional practices and policies that perpetuate stereotypes about elderly people….”
