Why?

I’ve bought a new toy. It takes a Micro SDcard.

I bought two cards. (512GB ea)

I formatted one before using it, and it doesn’t work in the toy. Formatted with exFAT and NTFS..

I didn’t format the other, and it works straight out of the box. Look at it, and it is FAT32

Oh…….. and WOO HOO!!. My new toy has a 3 axis gimbal 😁

I did think that SDcards didn’t require formatting AFAIWA.

If I drop the /q option (quick format) then it actually starts to do it.

From another site.

That takes yous to yet another site, where they say do what you did, but it really does take … a … while.

It didn’t. After 8 hours it came up:

“The volume is too big for FAT32. Format failed”

Dunno what is next…………..

Fat32Formatter is freeware and made by TOKIWA to format drives larger than 32GB to FAT32.

I need to get it back to the format it was “out of the box”. I bought two of them. One I decided (for no reason at all) to format it. The other “out of the box” works fine in my new toy. I need to get the other (one I formatted) back to the same format as the “out of the box” one..

Doing “right click” and “properties” on the SD Card (that works) tells me:

Type: USB Drive
File System : FAT32

Capacity 499 GB

And you had to play with it, you couldn’t leave well alone and now it’s fucked.

That doesn’t work, Mr FSM. Keeps telling me the “partition has collapsed” and to “initialize the drive”.

Click “initialize drive” and it still does not unlock the “Start” button for the format.

There are programs that allow you to backup flash cards by taking a disk image. Just take an image of the good one and write it to the “bad” one.
(I do it all the time at work)

WOO HOO!!! Did it. 😁

Combination of Windows Disk Management “Delete Volume” (completely clobber it)

Windows format as exFAT (quick)

Then GuiFormat Which does FAT32 for >32 GB drives.

Works in my new toy just like a bought one. 😁

Now…. anyone gunna ask what my new toy is? It has a 3 axis gimbal. 😁
