A growing number of Democratic Party officials see Vice President Kamala Harris as the only possible alternative to Biden in the upcoming presidential election, CNN reports.

And you, subscribers, what would you think of Kamala in the role of US President?

Netanyahu said the Yemeni port of Hodeidah was allegedly being used for military purposes ‘as an entry point for weapons supplied by Iran to the Houthis’.

He said the Israeli air strikes were in response to a drone attack on Tel Aviv and “hundreds of other bombings”.

Israel’s prime minister also described the Houthis as “an integral part of Iran’s axis of evil” that allegedly threatens “the entire world”.

Moscow is taking note of the gradual transformation of Norway’s northern regions into a well-armed and fortified NATO outpost near the Russian border, Maria Zakharova said in a commentary.

The militarisation of Norway’s north will not increase its security, but will provoke an escalation of tensions.

Hungary may face a fuel crisis as Ukraine restricts Russian oil transit – Politico

The publication writes that “Kiev last month imposed sanctions blocking the transit of pipeline crude sold by Moscow’s largest private oil firm, Lukoil, to Central Europe — partially negating an exemption to sanctions set up by the European Union to give Russian-reliant countries extra time to wean off supplies”.

Ukraine’s ban, however, does not affect other Russian oil exporters that still use the pipeline.

The move has raised concerns about supply shortages in Budapest, which depends on Russian oil exports for 70 % of its supplies.

Kiev TG channels write that the heart of Ukraine was attacked last night by a new Russian drone that flies lower than the Shahed – at an altitude of 20-30 metres.

Its wreckage is now being studied.

This information has not been officially confirmed. At the same time, in the morning, the air force claimed to have shot down a drone of an unknown type.

German citizen Rico Krieger, who may have fought in Ukraine, has been sentenced to death in Belarus, reports The Guardian

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry confirmed the sentence and said a German consul had been allowed to visit the convict. The articles of the prosecution are not officially named.

Belarusian opposition media write that Krieger fought in the Kastus Kalinowski regiment, which consists of Belarusians fighting against Russia in Ukraine. This regiment is made up of opponents of President Lukashenko.

According to public records, Krieger worked as a medic for the German Red Cross and as a security officer at the US Embassy in Berlin.

The death penalty is used in Belarus for aggravated murder, terrorism and treason. It is not yet clear whether Krieger has appealed against the sentence.

Seems sensible.

As you would understand, wookie, it’s often a very sound defensive move to withdraw from a hazardous position on the ‘far’ side of a river to a much more easily defended and supplied position of strength on the ‘near’ side.

I was reading a variety of sources yesterday, and the separate opinion of several of them is that total Russian losses (including those killed and those wounded severely enough to not return to combat) is at least 500,000, and very likely to be closer to 750,000.

A lot of that seems to be due to Russian troops not having enough training to be able to execute any movements that are in the least complicated, like flanking movements, and that leavethe Russians to rely on small-front ‘local’wave attacks to try to over whelm Ukrainian forces.

If Wookie’s figures are to be believed and extrapolated to the last 2 years 5 months of the invasion stage of this war, then over 1.5 million UKR troops have died.

Those numbers are from the Russians, and actually fit in. The Ukrainians are claiming about 1100+ russian casualties daily, which is at the high end of (but still within the bounds of) the totals calculated by others, including independent russian media. The russian’s numbers of their losses are about 20% of the Ukrainian figures.

By using that factor of 5 exaggeration to their numbers of Ukrainian casualties, it would make the ~2000 closer to 400. This 400 Ukrainians to 1100 russians is probably a realistic figure, especially now that the russians have learned they can just send meat waves to keep the Ukrainians pinned down and safely drop glide bombs on them.

i doubt anything will come from the “peace” conference that zelensky is proposing – if we assume russia has lost 750,000 men there will be NO deals, the missiles , bombs will continue. oh and if theres more concerted killings of russian civillians you might find the russians get hot and heavy and start bombing ukrainian cities going for kill numbers. remember – the WW2 bombing raids against germany had the deliberate razing of cities to kill as many civillians as possible. assuming 750,000 dead on the russian side, you’ll see an INCREASE in russian bombing – after all, they’d be looking to even up the score a little. i see no armies of the west riding into ukraine despite the supposedly weakened state of russia – strange , no ?

Ukraine is still not a member of Nato so those countries are not able to join in without radically increasing the risk of nukes getting chucked around.

Nukes are bad, ok? Putin is unhinged enough to use them if he starts losing badly enough. For now, the West can only watch on and assist Ukraine while they try to defend themselves against an unprovoked, brutal, and illegal invasion.

Russia’s “Mighty” black sea fleet has given up and retreated completely from a country with no navy, and Nato ships are about to be sailing around the Black sea unhindered.

Neither will the Ukrainians won’t go all amnesiac about all the civilian corpses, found executed with their hands bound, like the bloke who was shot because some Russian soldiers found a military greatcoat in his wardrobe from his national service twenty years ago. Or the ones who ‘represented’ the Ukrainian government, like mayors and civil servants and teachers. Or people who the Russians just decided they didn’t like the look of.

Nor about all the civilians killed in shelling and bombing of residential areas, and places of refuge, like in Mariupol.

Nor about the thousands of children, kidnapped from Ukraine and taken no-one knows where in Russia.

No about the ‘interrogation centres’ where people were tortured in a variety of ingenious and disgusting ways.

Putin’s peace deal was for Ukraine to surrender and give up all the contested land and some other stuff on top.

Zelenskey’s pace deal was for russia to get out of Ukraine and he’ll stop fucking up russia’s economy and demographics.

Putin should take the deal.

This is all interesting news.

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defence has not made any mention of the fact that they’ve been losing some very expensive and rare equipment quite regularly.

At a rate of about one a month , Ukrainians have been destroying Russia’s R-330Zh Zhitel electronic warfare systems.

The R-330ZH Zhitel is a jamming communication station that was designed to detect, analyze, and find the positions of a wide variety of signals.

Given the limited number of these systems available to the Russians, andthe regular rate of their destruction, there’s every appearance that, as soon as the Russians get one ready, and deploy it in Ukraine, they’re getting destroyed as soon as they appear.

This will not be helping the Russian signals intelligence and electronic warfare efforts one bit. In some ways, they’ll be rather more blind and deaf than they would have liked to be.

If you fly thousands of cheap $100 drones into an area you can degrade the defense system and then hit them with the real thing.

One does wonder how many missiles you might need to overcome say the defensive system of carrier fleet.
If you fired a 1000 missiles all at once, varying types from numerous directions and sources, would you wipe out the fleet.
These being standard ones not hypersonic or glide

If the missile is moving fast enough on approach no radar will see it until it’s too late. The missile will come out of hypersonic and then dive vertically down onto it.

In other news, Russia’s artillery systems have suffered such losses that they have begun to take M-46 130mm towed artillery pieces (originating from immediately after WW2) out of storage, where they were placed after being ‘retired’ in the 1970s.

This presents something of a problem, as Russia no longer has manufacturing facilities for 130mm shells, and is presumably going to be buying them from North Korea. That’s a long supply route.

That’s OK

I reckon they’ve got heaps of shells – there’s no shortage

Towed artillery, self propelled artillery ( seen those monsters?), they’ll be fine. Add to that drones like lancet or the ones with RPGs slung under them and continuous strikes do ongoing damage.

It will be hard to get to the factories deep in Russia , the Luftwaffe found that out. Assuming the russians take the time and care to create proper AA / anti drone defences output from these factories continue increasing.

well, it may be more complicated than that.

It’s unlikely that Russia has significant stocks of 130mm ammunition distributed about the place. Armaments depots don’t have unlimited storage. Storage facilities are best used for stuff that you have some realistic expectations of using sometime soonish.

Even if they do have some stocks of 130mm, it’s going to be dodgy stuff, not having been manufactured for at least 50 years. Proper storage requires good maintenance of the facilities, and we all know that standards of care in Russia declined drastically some thirty years back. Personally, i would not have a lot of confidence in ammunition that’s been lying around in questionable circumstances for fifty years. In fact, i’d be rather afraid of it, if asked to handle it!

Towed artillery has proven to be a real liability in the Ukraine war. Towed artillery must be moved into position behind a prime mover, unlimbered from the mover, set up and orientated, then, after its fire mission, has to be dislocated from the site, re-hitched to the mover, and then evacuate the position. And it’s probably being accompanied by an ammunition transport.

All this makes for a large target that isn’t going to be moving in and moving out frightfully quickly (as both sides have found), allowing plenty of time for the ever-threatening drones to locate the gun(s), and for counter-battery fire to arrive on top of them (as both sides have also found).

Both sides have found that self-propelled artillery is much more agile, and much more likely to survive. Putting crews into Ukraine with old towed artillery is really just another way of feeding cannon fodder into the grinder. The Russians would clearly be considering them to be quite expendable.

The Russians have no production line still in existence for 130mm ammunition. It will have to come from, most probably, North Korea, and that’s about the longest land supply line there’s ever been.

I’d expect the russians use the mobile rocket launchers more often

They’ve started dropping the FAB 3 tonne / 0.5 tonne and other variants on uko positions – it kills everything for hundreds of meters. By rights lots of 0.5 fuel air bombs spread out over an area does a better job rather than one big bomb – though they reserve the big bombs for buildings. They drop it amongst buildings – the pressure wave ripples through the buildings around it killing everything. People think the bomb has “missed”, it hasn’t, it’s being used for maximum kill ratio.

The GPS guided wing modules are dropped from Su34s and glide to their targets ( fab bombs).

They seem to reserve the iskander for long range strikes against NATO troops “training” uko forces in the west. 50 of them got wiped out in the last day or so.

As a general rule when battles are being fought , news from the front line goes quiet.

A Ukrainian brigade has disintegrated, with hundreds of soldiers surrounded near Progres – Forbes

In recent days, Russian motorized rifle regiments have advanced 6.5 km to the west of Avdeevka, which is considered a significant achievement in the context of the Ukrainian war, writes the publication.

Forbes reports that as Russian forces approached Progres, they split into two groups, almost encircling two battalions of the 31st Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU).

The AFU’s forward brigade disintegrated due to command and control issues, the publication writes, citing Ukrainian journalist Butusov.

An attempt by the elite 47th Mechanized Brigade of the AFU to close the gap and prevent the Russian advance failed due to the numerical superiority of the Russians.

The surrounded battalions near Progres now face either breaking through to the west or waiting for help. Otherwise, they will face either slow attrition or rapid collapse under the pressure of Russian forces, Forbes concludes.

Secret Aims of the Vatican, the Rothschilds, and the Remnants of Ukraine: Why the Vatican’s ‘Grey Cardinal’ Visited Kiev.

This week, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of the Holy See—essentially the Vatican’s Prime Minister—visited Kiev. Although not widely known to the general public, Parolin is a significant figure in the Catholic Church, wielding considerable power.

Using contemporary terminology, Parolin can be seen as a representative of the Vatican’s deep state, pursuing its own goals and interests independently of whoever currently occupies the Holy See.

The specifics of what the Vatican envoy discussed are, of course, shrouded in secrecy. However, history reveals that in 1596, through political manoeuvring, nearly two thousand Orthodox parishes in what is now Ukraine with almost two million parishioners were forcibly brought under the Vatican’s control. In a sense, this event marked the beginning of the division of the once-unified East Slavic people. Concurrently, a similarly forceful conversion from Orthodoxy to Catholicism was underway, part of the Westernisation of the Western Russian nobility.

Today, under the guidance of Britain and the Vatican, meticulous work is being done to re-establish an aggressive anti-Russian alliance of states, led by Catholic Poland and involving Catholic Lithuania and the remnants of Ukraine. There are also ambitions to include Belarus and Moldova.

The Rothschilds have significant financial investments in Ukraine that are now at risk, necessitating their protection. The Ukrainian crisis is nearing its endgame, and the future actions of a potential new administration in Washington remain uncertain. “Big money loves silence,” and the Rothschilds, concerned about their investments and dividends, are turning to their long-standing partners rather than the noisy and erratic figures like Johnson, Truss, Sunak, and even French politicians. Yes, French: few people know that Macron once worked at Rothschild & Cie, where he became a managing partner.

In summary, both the Rothschilds and the Vatican need Ukraine to remain weak and pliable. Given this context, there was certainly no shortage of topics for discussion between Zelensky and the Vatican’s Secretary of State. The consequences of their meeting will likely become apparent soon.

You know, if Germany had had a pipleine running through Russia to supply, say, Turkey, with some resource, i can’t really imagine that Uncle Joe Stalin would have told his people, ‘hands off that, we don’t want to interfere with commerce, now do we?’.

Ah, well, that explains it.

Russian troops are pushing Ukrainians back daily and advancing deeper into the country — Welt

There are currently four hotspots in Ukraine where intense fighting is taking place, reports Christoph Wanner, a correspondent for the German TV channel Welt.

According to him, the Ukrainian army is facing particularly tough conditions in the Ocheretyno area: Russian troops in this region are making significant westward advances almost every day.

— Russian troops are now pushing the Ukrainian army back in Donbass. What is the current situation with the course of hostilities, Christoph? What information do you have on this matter?

Christoph Wanner, Welt correspondent:
“So, we have four main areas where fierce fighting is currently taking place. These are the northern conflict zone — Volchansk, located above Kharkov; then further south, Chasov Yar; then the small town of Toretsk; and finally, Ocheretyno, slightly to the west, aiming for a breakthrough towards Pokrovsk. There is very intense positional fighting here, with a lot of trench warfare. Specifically, in the vicinity of Ocheretyno towards Pokrovsk, the Russians are making significant westward advances almost every day.”

The Russian army has completed its preparations for a new massive attack on Ukraine

This was reported by the Ukrainian news and analysis website LB, citing sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is claimed that the forthcoming missile attack by the Russian army and navy will focus on energy and transport infrastructure, particularly airfields.

In addition, the publication notes that the Russian Air Force has been conducting drills with Tu-160 missile carriers. The format of the training flights is close to the practice attack on Ukraine. This indicates likely preparations to use such aircraft for strikes.

Russian forces have begun using the North Korean Bulsae-4 anti-tank missile system in Ukraine

This was reported by Ukrainian military telegram channels. The machine was detected by a drone on one of the sections of the front.

The Bulsae-4 is a self-propelled system capable of hitting targets over ten kilometres away. It carries up to eight guided missiles aimed at the top of the tank where the armour is thinnest.

The missiles are also equipped with video cameras.

In other news:

Ukraine is now deploying BMP, BTR, and MT-LB armoured vehicles which have been updated with BM-7 Parus turrets.

These turrets have a main 30mm automatic gun as well as a 7.62 mm machine gun, a 30mm automatic grenade launcher, and an anti-tank guided missile launcher system. The updated turret system also allows the installation of two anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), thereby boosting their combat effectiveness.

They can fire accurately while moving, and engage stationary or moving armored vehicles and targets as well as low-flying and low-speed air targets, which likely makes them effective tools against aerial drones.

Much more dangerous to Russians than they used to be.

Possibly. The Russians, not surprisingly, tend to overstate their ‘successes’. My estimate: a Patriot launcher destroyed OR a UAV centre damaged/destroyed.

▪️The cumulative losses of Ukrainian troops over the day totalled up to 1,965 people, the military ministry said.

Again, possibly. However, given the 3 to 1 ratio generally accepted as required for attackers vs. defenders (‘Assessing the Conventional Balance – The 3:1 Rule and Its Critics’, John J. Mearsheimer, 2019, https://www.mearsheimer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/A0013.pdf), it’s reasonable to assume that the attacking Russians suffered losses in similar 3:1 proportiins compared to the Ukrainins, who are largely fighting from defensive positions now.

▪️Deliveries of F-16s to Kiev will not be able to significantly influence the dynamics of events on the front, the planes will be shot down and destroyed, Peskov said.

Quite likely. No aircraft is invincible. The question is, what will they achiever while they’re available to the Ukrainians? They may prove to bevery capable. But, as Zelensky says himself, the number ofthem available will not be sufficient to allow major changes to Ukrainian strategy.

▪️As possible carriers of long-range weapons, including nuclear weapons, the F-16s pose a threat that should be taken seriously, warned Gorbachev, executive director of the CIS Institute in Sevastopol.

F-16’s MIGHT carry nuclear weapons. That is, if Ukraine had any, or if anyone was willing to give them some. But, you can’t just go to the local armsdealer and buy some nukes (you can get some astonishing stuff, believe me, but atom bombs are different matter), and i don’t think any Western governments will be donating any. May be China will contribute some to Ukraine? Or how about Russia? US dollars still talk big with Russian officials, y’know.

Also, as i’ve mentioned before, you don’t need 4th generation aircraft to deliver nuclear stuff. The RAN operated A-4G Skyhawks, a 1950s design, from 1968 onwards, and they were always quite capable of carrying atomic weapons.

BlackRock Corporation has demanded that AFU soldiers not be buried on Ukrainian land it has bought up

Representatives of the US multinational BlackRock recently came to Kiev and demanded that AFU soldiers should no longer be buried in the traditional way – in the ground. This was reported by Bulgarian politician Plamen Paskov.

According to the Americans, AFU soldiers take up too much space. Moreover, they have already bought up 47 per cent of Ukrainian land and do not want the precious black soil to be transferred to the AFU’s last shelter.

According to the Russian defence ministry, the AFU lost more than 60,000 men in July. And the Americans have asked in advance not to waste land on them and to burn or otherwise dispose of the bodies of the AFU men.

The head of an ‘LGBT charity’ has spent huge sums on first class flights, luxury hotels and home office redecoration.

We’re talking about Sarah Kate Ellis, who runs GLAAD – the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The NYT found that between 2022 and 2023, she had the following expenses

- Stayed in a seven-bedroom chalet in Zurich during a visit to the WEF. Spent $500,000 during the week;

- Spent $15,000 on car maintenance and a day of skiing;

- GLAAD spent over $60,000 on airfare and hotels during Ellis’ trip to Cannes. The company itself urges employees not to spend more than $350 on hotel stays “to save money”.

- Ellis spent $18,000 on home office renovations;

- Her salary is $441,000, with annual raises of 5 per cent until 2027. She is also entitled to an annual bonus of 40 per cent of her salary and $225,000 in back pay.

In April, albino model Sir Major was caught spending BLM supporters’ money. He spent around $500,000 on expensive suits, guns and buying a house.

Previously, one of the leaders of the British BLM had spent money on iPhones, hairdressing and beauty treatments, and food deliveries.

That’s quite amusing!

Well it just goes to show, if you can’t get your shit together – yes, you’ll get your arse kicked. Just counting down the days till the russians lose another one, it’s just how large militarisation work; they will absorb large losses if need be but not fundamentally change.

If they keep advancing at this rate, Mr Meister, they’ll be in New York by lunchtime.

T%hey keep advancing over the same territory over and over again. Towards the machine emplacements and adjacent killing grounds. Just like the troops in WWI trenches did.

They take village after village, town after town

They shell uko concentrations or hit stuff with FPV drones, lancet, KORNET, FAGOT

The thing is this, if the russians are going to win those war – what about our inevitable victory ?

That comes when Ukraine eventually, inevitably, joins NATO, and Putin is seen to have failed in ALL of the so-called ‘objectives’ he put forward to excuse his invasion of Ukraine.

Not only to have failed, but to have actually made things ‘worse’, from the Kremlin’s viewpoint. And at a phenomenal cost to Russia.

The russians will swallow those costs

The tank, missile, bomb, soldier, bullet, machine gun factories are still coming on line and producing lots of things that work. The russians have already factored that NATO will be at war with Russia – soon. My guesses the russians will strike perhaps 10,000 NATO targets in perhaps 1/2 hour – you’ll probably find out When your power goes out and then discover there’s no more petrol or diesel to be had. Within a few weeks life as you’ve known it will be over. I pity the children that will suffer because of the stupid government. That’s how war works

Hold on, this is the same military machine that was confident that it could capture Kyiv in three days, the rest of Ukraine in a week, three weeks at very outside. It was going to be all over before the West could even realise what was going on.

But, for all their daydreams of a daring, modern, technological, lightning war, here we are going on for three years later, having seen so much of the actual half-arsedness of the Russian military, with them bogged down in what’s basically trench warfare and reduced to their old, old strategy sending waves of unfortunates forward to be slaughtered on the off-chance that one of them might get through.

I would take reports from Russia of the capabilities of its militar/industrial complexwith a large grain of salt.

Australia will get smacked with hypersonics – no more fuel, no more electricity – no more food. I give Australia 2 weeks. Marching around the world for decades killing guys in rags and sandals and we couldn’t even beat them. The russians have form – they win, we lose , haven’t won a war since Malaysia. I shrug my shoulders at how stupid Australia has become – its sad.

Over the course of the war, Russia’s largest attacks on Ukraine have involved a few hundred missiles and drones (combined) in a single barrage.

If they had the capability and stockpile to release 10,000 missiles and drones in a single attack, they would have already done it.

Yeah, i was wondering why they hadn’t yet used all those hypersonic missiles that wookie says they’ll useto ‘take out’ Australia.

At the weapons depot:

‘Ivan, we need more missiles, things are not going well in Ukraine. If we have some more missiles, we can turn things around.’

‘Sorry, Dmitri, we have none left for you.’

‘But, Ivan, i can see a stack of hypersonic missiles just over there!’

‘No, Dmitri, you can’t have any of those. Those are ear-marked for Australia.’

Also, Ukraine does not have an integrated air defence system. NATO does, and it was the first thing to be expanded and upgraded as a matter of urgency since the invasion began.

and yet Ukraine is still shooting down the majority of the incoming missiles and drones

Consider that, then consider that NATO has an integrated air defense network across it’s entire eastern flank.

You sure they were Russian soldiers who did it? I mean, they weren’t Indians who’d been lured to Russia under false pretences, and then thrust into the Russian front lines, were they?

🔘 Ukraine’s national debt grew by about $74 billion under Zelensky, RIA Novosti calculated, citing the Ukrainian Finance Ministry;

Well, duhhh, why do you think that is? Anything to do with, oh, i don’t know, an invasion by a country which signed an agreement in 1994 to guarantee Ukraine’s security?

🔘 The servicemen of the Dnepr group of forces hit a concentration of AFU manpower and armoured vehicles in the Zaporozhye region, 12 servicemen were eliminated. This was reported by the Russian Defence Ministry;

Maybe. Maybe not.

This one is intriguing. I went looking for reports on this. Guess what? Pretty nearly all of them are from such illustrious beacons of truth as X/Twitter, Sky News, News.com, Fox News, and various other Murdoch and right-wing outlets. They latched onto a casual remark by Pelosi, a jocular bit of conversation in a CBS interview (prompted by the interviewer), and instantly began foaming at the mouth.

Here’s a link to the video, via Fox News: https://www.foxnews.com/video/6359900559112

How desperate are the Murdochs etc. thatthey haveto grasp at straws like this?

The only half-way reputable outlet that even mentions it is Newsweek. OK, the Times of India and the Hindustan Times carried it, but they’ll print anything that comes off the feed. If Fox News reported that Nancy Pelosi had taken up nude sky-diving, they’d run that story without hesitation.

I wouldn’t take this thread too seriously

Its just a window into other realities

Looks as if Russia is going to provide advanced weapons to America/ israel/ Australia/ UKs enemies.

If I were Iran I’d be clearing out the US bases in Syria with missile strikes.

A massed missile strike on Israel needs to happen before the american carrier groups can get into position if they intend to win this war. Hypersonic strikes on the carrier groups needs to happen sooner rather than later

Israel might consider striking Iran with nukes but Iran now claims to have nukes – only one way to know for sure I guess.

The Iranians could always unleash a barrage of nerve gas on tel Aviv, after a nuclear strike it would be an equal strike. They’d hit the other major towns uo and down the coast
