Subject: Caterpillars detect electrostatic fields of predator wasps
Apparently not much is known about their ability to detect and process sound.
>However, in actuality, an approaching wasp produces not just an electric field, but also sound and air currents, notes Jerome Casas, an insect physical ecologist at the University of Tours. The caterpillars’ setae may be sensitive to all three, Casas says, making it tough to tell how important the ability to detect the electric field may be for protection.
