since I had pharyngitis quite a way back – a horrible experience – i’ve developed a very sensitive gag reflex, dry heave, retch or whatever want call it when clean me teeth go through the procedure of full rinse and all

doesn’t bother me, in fact I think it makes me feel better, might be good for my health

so i’m wondering if this may involve stimulation of the vagus nerve, could be the reason

anyways has me a read of stuff related

Interesting. I had pharyngitis when I was younger in the cadets. Nearly died but I didn’t and I do have problems with the gag reflex as well.

while reading, I learnies few thing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vagusstoff
“Vagusstoff (literally translated from German as “Vagus Substance”) refers to the substance released by stimulation of the vagus nerve which causes a reduction in the heart rate. Discovered in 1921 by physiologist Otto Loewi, vagusstoff was the first confirmation of chemical synaptic transmission and the first neurotransmitter ever discovered. It was later confirmed to be acetylcholine, which was first identified by Sir Henry Hallett Dale in 1914. Because of his pioneering experiments, in 1936 Loewi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he shared with Dale….”

It was a joke on words that are phonetically different to how they are spelt.

I just can’t relate it to this thread. Is there some word without an L in the thread that you’re referring to?

But I think I cocked up as laryngitis is how you spell it, so it was a total failure at humor.
I started a joke but the joke’s on me.

Yeah but which word had no L?
Anyone else at this time of year would think you were talking about the Christmas carol.

What caused your pharyngitis.. infection?

Was it a very nasty case? What symptoms? How long did it last? How long before the gag reflex problem developed?

Enjoy your sensitive gag reflex then.

I don’t know much about those nerves. I don’t think it’s vagus related. It’s an interesting one.. all over the place.
