The good news is that it’s not raining in Brisbane or at the ‘Gabba at the moment, nor is it likely to rain in the next hour or so.

I guess the grounds staff are preparing the outfield right now. The ‘Gabba recovers from a drenching remarkably quickly.

There’s a widening and deepening low embedded in a trough offshore just north of us here. It’s generating this Brisbane (and Rainbow Beach) rain.

There is a margin of error. The graphics only show the average path, not the full range of all paths. What you’ll find is that if the graphics showed a larger circle with all the possible paths, to ball could be clipping the stumps or it could be just missing. They only show ‘hitting” if there is no possible path where the ball misses, and “missing” only if there is no possible path where it hits. Anything in between is Umpire’s Call.

Confused of the Redoubt.

It’s an engineering thing. The accuracy of the ball-tracking system is +/- half a ball width.

So, if less than half a ball (via electronic ball-tracking) is shown clipping the stumps, it is “Umpire’s decision”. This is written into the laws.

106th over – Bumrah carries on
S

By Simon Smale

Starc defends the first.

FOUR! Then he goes bang, swinging hard at a length ball and cannoning it over wide long on for a boundary.

Starc defends, the ball just floating back a little bit and interesting Bumrah momentarily.

It’s a bit of a tame end to be honest.

Starc just felt for one outside of off stump, Pant did the rest with the easiest of takes and Bumrah raises both hands.

Up went the finger, Starc trudges off for 18, his fireworks over.

And out comes Nathan Lyon.

18 handy runs, I don’t like India’s chances on an oppressively humid day in Brisbane against the new ball.

The Book of Cricket theology teaches that Albion is a unique place and that Cricketers are God’s chosen people, selected for a singular destiny. The Book of Cricket alludes to Albion as being the Biblical promised land, with the Constitution of Albion being divinely inspired, and argues that Albion is an exceptional nation.

Doesn’t it have something to do with King Arthur drawing a cricket bat from a stone?

No no, that’s mainly mythology.

I read that they now lead by 270 runs, which is more than India got in their first innings. Over all, the tactic of T20 – see ball, smash ball, might just be working.
