Subject: Transformer Question

Electrical-smart person advice needed.

Spalding Jr. wants to make a set-up into which he can plug various guitar effects pedals.

It would incorporate a unit similar to one ofthese:

which seems to be, basically, a box with a lot of 9v DC outlets on it, each outlet rated at up to 500mA.

For some rerason, he wants to ‘build in’ the power supply, so he’s looking at a transformer to get 240v AC down to 9v AC, which can then be rectified to DC.

We’ve looked at this page from Jaycar:

https://www.jaycar.com.au/power-batteries/power-conversion-generation/transformers/c/0IC

but neither of us is sufficiently well-versed in transformer language to grasp which is the most suitable.

In particular, the ‘max input power’ has us a little baffled.

Can anyone please help to de-baffle us as to a suitable choice and understanding?

link to the max input power one please. sounds a bit like a coupling transformer, but i would like to know for sure.

Just looking at the Zuma. Comes with a IEC power core, same as what plugs into a tower computer, so why does he want a separate power supply? It already comes with one.

Judge,

Thanks for the response.

The pics were only meant as exemples ofthe kind of device that he’s getting. They’re not the precise item. Poor presentation on my part.

As i understand it, the one he’s getting requires a 240v AC to 9v DC ‘power pack’, like a laptop power pack.

But, he had a bee in his bonnet about ‘building a power supply into the cabinet’, incorporating a transformer in there.

since i posted the query, he’s changed his thinking toward putting a 240v AC power board (e.g.:

in there instead, and just plugging the 9v ‘power pack(s)’ into that. This has the advantage of also providing a 240v source, if one is needed for some purpose.
