I had a big labor supporter telling me how great things were when I mentioned the rental crisis. The backstory is he had annoyed the landlord so much they had found an excuse and told him they were selling the place. There is no rental crisis, he’s found somewhere else for TWICE the price he was originally renting for. Gotta love it.

I think that’s always the problem with the political fanatics , they never see the big picture, reality only stretches to within the bubble of political ideology – they could be living out of a shopping cart and albo buying a 4.7 million dollar beach house in the middle of a labor made housing crisis doesn’t even get considered.

I don’t even bother arguing with them these days

Top urban planner’s grim warning: Western Sydney will be ‘hottest place on earth’ within months
months
An urban planner has warned that Aussies chasing the dream of owning their own home are causing a liveability nightmare.
However, Mr Austin told news.com.au the large housing estates like the one at Marsden Park – with their tiny backyards, black rooves, and concreted everything – were not just unbearably hot, but had created dangerous urban heat islands that can reach temperatures up to 50C.

AUKUS’ nuclear waste dump is the secret no-one talks about. So what’ll it cost?
The $360 billion cost of AUKUS might be startling, but on top of that is another undiscussed figure: the cost of building storage for nuclear waste.

A specialist consulting firm estimated the cost of the construction, decommissioning and closure of the facility to be about $41 billion. This included a new port, road, rail, airport and other infrastructure for what would be a remote location. Total operating costs — including labour, contracted services, maintenance and equipment — were estimated at $877.7 million a year in the first 40 years and $765.2 million after that. This produced a total capital and operating cost estimated to be $145.3 billion over the 120-year life of the project.

Covering the whole suburb will cool it down.

I recommend covering the suburb with a tin shed.

I said to Mrs S just today that ‘i cannot think why anyone would have a house with a black roof’.

A more counter-intuitive ‘design’ idea, in this climate, is hard to imagine.

If even new homes had tools that were painted white the heat load in suburbs would be drastically lowered.

In the death valley suburbs created by black roofs a mandate to change the colour of the roofs has to be made. An interest free loan needs to be offered to the home owner. It has to be explained that a health emergency has been created by dark roofs and can’t be allowed to continue.

Another offset is creating shading by the planting of small trees. This might be achieved by planter boxes rather than planting straight into the ground where plumbing / power can be affected. The planter box might be designed to retain water, the soil have the special mix for water retention. As a crazy idea, a dedicated pipe carrying grey water could be used to water the tree?

Road colour ( shade) could be changed so it’s brighter.
