and so we are in radio range again…

Having crossed the paddock (Eyre hwy). we noticed we had no data or signal for about our mobile phones. We were told to get a Star link system. However, We hate Elon Musk. So, what options do we have?

Appreciate any advice…

RFDS used to rent out HF radios, a longtime ago.

There’s the Iridium network.

but it ain’t cheap, no sir.

A fair sort satellite phone set-up, not over-the-top, will probably cost you $2,000 – $3,000.

Which is peanuts, if it saves your life.

I mean you’ve got to live your life, get Starlink if you have to.

You can not like Elon Musk and still get StarLink – the two are not mutually exclusive.

There really isn’t any other mobile satellite telecommunications platform that is readily commercial available.

Not unless you want to go ‘professional’, with Iridium or Inmarsat.

Isn’t there some way of sneakily using Star Link without paying for it?

No. Starlink uses encryption, of this sort:

https://www.st.com/en/secure-mcus/stsafe-a100.html

like just about everything else, and, for now at least, that’s pretty secure.

Even if you cloned a Starlink chip, Starlink will easily see that the same subscription is used in two dishes.

Maybe think of it as keeping some poor worker that has to see musk on the daily in wages…

Would that be ‘terrorism’?

starlink is the only service that gives you full, and useful, internet. others give voice, text, and limited data and internet.
