He personally selected 80% of the cardinals who will be voting, so there’s a pretty good chance.

The information isn’t public knowledge and whilst I doubt it retains them it could easily do so.

Mr Mutant uses Copilot to analyse information. He feeds in the data and it will spit out the analysis within minutes rather than several hours doing it manually. Sometimes he uses it to write performance evaluations, shh.
Back when Mr Mutant was interviewing new prospects, one applicant solved the problem using AI, but when the answer was wrong, the applicant couldn’t see where AI had gone wrong even though it was glaringly obvious to Mr Mutant.

Three observations about the Vatican
1 Over the last two thousand years the Vatican has segregated into two main gender groups females and males nuns and monks, then they attack the gay community, while failing to see themselves.
2 Over the last two thousand years they have been preaching something that can never be proven and that is deception.
3 Over the last two thousand years and 250 popes later, this last one has been one of the best.
Francis championed Pell. Pell wasn’t a huge fan of Francis over various stances, but ultimately the Pope has to go with the Catholic Church’s interpretation of the Bible.
What I do like about Francis is that despite all the riches afforded to the Pope, Francis chose not to partake in many of them. From refusing the ermine ceremonial coat to his scaled-back funeral, Francis took his namesake’s attitude to flaunting wealth seriously.

It was much more a matter of trying to move Pell out of harm’s way (i.e., harm to Pell and harm to the Church).
Not quite sure why you idolise this Pope. He tweaked the rhetoric a little but none of the fundamental teachings.
The Catholic conservatives hated him but they tend to hate all the Popes. You’d probably have to go back to the Middle Ages to find one monstrous enough to satisfy them.

This is very silly, but it did make me wonder …
Who was the last beardy pope?
Going by the pictures in Wikipedia, Innocent X, who poped from 1644 to 1655, had a pretty good beard.
After him there were a few with a moustache paired with a narrow strip of chinbeard, not sure what you’d even call it, up until 1700.

I haven’t watched Conclave yet bc Mr Mutant wants to watch it with me. But I hear the rituals portrayed in the film are pretty much exactly what happens IRL.
The top comment is a rundown of the rituals involved. I’m fascinated by rituals, watching the Queen’s funeral was interesting because of the ceremony that goes with it. Everything from telling the bees their owner had died to breaking of the sceptre.

Fine, I’ll look it up myself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_Guard#Uniforms
The Swiss Guard is considered an elite military unit and highly selective in its recruitment: candidates must be unmarried Swiss Catholic males between 19 and 30 years of age, and at least 5 feet 8.5 inches (1.74 meters), who have completed basic training with the Swiss Armed Forces and hold a professional diploma or high school degree. As of 2024 there were 135 members.
The tailors of the Swiss Guard work inside the Vatican barracks. There the uniform for each guardsman is tailor-made individually. The total set of Renaissance style clothing weighs 8 pounds (3.6 kg), and may be the heaviest and most complicated uniform in use by any standing army today. A single uniform requires 154 pieces and takes nearly 32 hours and 3 fittings to complete. They are made of high-quality wool exclusively sourced from the town of Biella.
Guards are forbidden from selling their suit and while they can keep the uniform after five years of service, they are contractually obliged to either be buried with the uniform or pass it on to a specific Swiss Guard association.

I haven’t watched Conclave yet bc Mr Mutant wants to watch it with me. But I hear the rituals portrayed in the film are pretty much exactly what happens IRL.The top comment is a rundown of the rituals involved. I’m fascinated by rituals, watching the Queen’s funeral was interesting because of the ceremony that goes with it. Everything from telling the bees their owner had died to breaking of the sceptre.

I heard about this on the radio in the car this afternoon.
>>GAZA CITY — For most people around the world, Pope Francis was a religious leader seen on video or read about in the news. For the congregation of a tiny Roman Catholic church in Gaza, he was the voice on the other end of the phone every night, calling to check on them in wartime.
“He used to call us at 7 p.m. every night. No matter how busy he was, no matter where he was, he always called,” George Anton, spokesperson for the Church of the Holy Family in Gaza, told NPR on Monday, the day of the pope’s death at age 88.<<

The Catholics got too much bad publicity from burning people in the past so I don’t think they’ll do it again. The black smoke/white smoke thing is bad enough,
Nobody wants the Spanish Inquisition.

One’s usually elm, one’s lead, and I can’t remember the last one. They fit together like nesting dolls, with special things placed in each coffin. But Francis only had the wooden one, and was dressed in plain clothing, not fancy rags like many of his predecessors.

So perhaps he was given something to stop him fidgetting.
I have a theory of how they elect a new pope.
They pontificate then hold a ballot, and the bloke with the least votes goes into the fireplace: Black smoke.
Repeat until:
Someone wins the vote and they chuck all the empty aluminium beer cans into the fire to clean the chimney for the next time.

So the new Pope is not lactose intolerant.
“Conclave comes from a Latin word meaning “room that can be locked up” (from the Latin com-, “together,” and clavis, “key”). The English conclave formerly had the same meaning, but that use is now obsolete. Today, conclave refers not to the locked rooms but to the private meetings and secret assemblies that occur within them. The meaning of conclave has also expanded to include gatherings that are not necessarily secret or private but simply involve people with shared interests.”
