I was all set to make a comment about a hypy headline, but it actually seems quite accurate, this really is something new and significant, at least as far as I know.

Seems a reasonable conclusion.
However, it doesn’t invite me to go live there because the Phlegraean Fields are now safe. This volcano has had seriously massive eruptions in the past and will likely have more in the future.
Just for interest Rev, this volcano is the source of pozzolan for Roman cement.
