1. Use channel 40. not only will it give you a ‘heads up’ of Wide & oversized loads ahead of you. It will also allow you to choose a hard or soft shoulder to pull up on.
2. Do not be that arse hole that holds up heavies. They are there to earn money. Grab your radio & state… “ole Mate. Go around me. When you get out there, I’ll button off. (do not button off untill he or she gets out there)
3. If you are suffering cross winds as these things often are. Either do not travel, or make sure you pull off the shoulder to allow all those to pass.

Where are you now?
On QLD’s one-lane tarred rural roads: “You stay on the black-top, I’ll get right off”. I never cease to be amazed how many vehicles enforce the unwritten rule of “left wheels only in the dirt” when faced with a fully laden four-trailer road train.

so recently someone who is a much better driver than us appeared to be signalling left from behind us where we couldn’t see them, until they were beside us, then entered our lane and field of view simultaneously immediately in front of us, and our question is how we can handle this situation better

Hiya BU. I hope you are having fun traveling around the place.
Can I add:
4. If you are on a bicycle using the road and blocking traffic for your exercise and/or fun, while the rest of us are trying to go somewhere, or cart a payload that someone is waiting and paying for, and you are blocking said traffic for your exercise/fun. You need to re-assess your life choices.
Those of us carting 25-40 tons down the road have no problem if you have no drivers license and need to get to work,we can see that you are in your work clothes with a backpack with your lunch in. Those cyclists wearing lycra pretending to be in the TdF and obstructing traffic, should be pelted with used tea bags, and told to go find a gym.

Anyone else here recall the ‘big truckies’strike/blockade’ back at the end of the 1970s? When there was barely a truck to be seen on the road, anywhere?
At that time, i used to have to traverse Parramatta Road in Sydney, on a freqent basis. It was always a long, annoying, grindingly slow journey.
Then, there trucks were gone.
It was like a bloody expressway. People were setting new personal-best times for their Parramatta Rd. travels. It was actually enjoyable.

Well, so do i.
They’re out there, earning a living. And, from what i’ve seen over the decades, most truck drivers are very decent, helpful, and the most cautious of drivers.
But, of course, it’s the few exceptions that everyone remembers.
Also, it is Ch. 40 UHF, is it not?

UHF.
Thought so.
I have both UHF and VHF in my vehicle, but don’t usually have them switched on, around town.
Also have some Chinese handhelds that, after some firmware changes, will transmit on just about any frequency you care to punch in, from about 25 mHz up.
But, i stick to the CB freqs, with the rest in reserve for life-or-death situations. No sense making trouble where none need exist.

No. The grown-ups are trying to build things and go to and from actual work.
This morning I lost around $500 waiting for some bicyclists to finish blocking the road so that I could get my payload through.
I’m sure he/she/it enjoyed the bicycle ride while the person who was paying for the load to be delivered had to pay for me to park on the ROAD to wait for the guy on the bike to get off the road.

possibly 477.4000MHz?, reckon 31.3984cm is half wavelength so start ya halfwave dipole tune at a length slightly longer, got to cover right down to channel 1 also, or if quarterwave dipole half that ~15.6999cm
there ya go kids
easiest end fed dipole involves stripping braid off RG213 coax
