In the late 1980s I witnessed a ball of bright light that “landed” in the small backyard of cottage in Glebe. It just “hovered” and then disappeared.
There was a storm overhead, lightning hit at least one place up the road and this ball of light filled the yard space.
At the time I was running a creche for Sydney Art College, and we had just come inside because of the rain. I was in front of the kitchen window and had a close-up view of it.

I tried to make glowing plasmoids in an old microwave oven. It was mostly a fizzer.
