Mostly on account of Detroit two stroke Diesels I became industrially deaf. So. I know I’ve been frequency deaf since 1992. However, it has gotten worse. Lately the wax build up is largely to blame. I found out in the Covid era, That I could not hear someone if they were wearing a mask. Anywho… WG finally convinced me to to put a product called Waxsol in my ears for three nights, & then syringe the bastards out. I can’t hear anything now.

WB&D to clear the entry point, followed by a 11/16th spade bit on a Milwaukee hammer drill to get penetration, then a #8 blasting cap and a cup of ANFO.

I tend to find the pharmacy ear wax products don’t do much, but yeah, making it worse rubs a bit of salt into the wound.
Best ear wax removals I’ve had were courtesy of old Dr Merle Gray (AM), who used to roll up her sleeves and do the running water syringing, which really removed a shedload of troubles.
See if you can find a GP who is still willing and able to do that.

A GP or better still and ENT (Ear Nose Throat specialist) will tell you to use Waxol for three days then come in and they’ll clear the wax out with a small water jet machine. It’s got a tiny nozzle that squirts pulses of warm water into your ear to flush the wax out.
It feels rather weird but it works and has to be done.

That’s what Dr Gray used, but she was good at it without any medication in the ear first.
GPs who provide that service seem to be thin on the ground these days.

Yeah, for kids it is not recommended. But for an adult with reasonable adult finger dexterity… 1mm or so at a time, if it hurts STOP.
I have been doing this since I was about 20. Went swimming one afternoon, got blocked ears that wouldn’t unblock. After a couple of days of trying everything else I did the very careful scraping out. it only took a couple of minutes, but the sensation of clearing out the blockage was magic. Been doing it for 30 years like that, always very careful and gentle probing.

Cotton buds. Also known as ear buds. Both of which have a warning from the manufacturers lawyers that they, under no circumstance, be inserted into the ear canal.
Probably because some dipshit once shoved it in there and burst his own eardrum.

if there is a lot of muck. they can sometimes just shove it all down the end and compact it.
The other option is a paperclip bent into a loop.
But the thing is to be gentle and careful and go 1mm at a time.

FTR you can buy ear syringes at the chemist in case your GP doesn’t do it.
Or dip a cotton bud into some olive oil and gently clean out your ears a few times a day.

I used to use Cerumol and have the doctor syringe out the wax. Satisfying but quite giddy making. Now I use hydrogen peroxide. It gets warm in your ear, bubbles and tickles like crazy…but it definitely works for me. And I don’t need the doctor because it sort of liquifies the wax and it drains out.

It took two sittings at the GP to get my ears cleaned out. To be honest it was a long suffering nurse that did the work. She was a charming Asian women who finally got the last lump of wax out of my left ear. She said, “Do you want to see?” “Not really.” I said. She did anyway.
